The Blind Date

"Really? I could never go without my beef and meat" Dwight remarked ordering his usual roast sandwich "Lets also have some appetizers please" Dwight said handing the menu back.

"Well I am glad things are going well so far" Dwight remarked at her words as he took a sip of his water "I also lived at home when I was in college I found the whole thing easier people at dorms were to busy partying and doing what they wanted"

"Of course if you ever need a private place to study my office or even my penthouse is open to you" Dwight remarked as the appetizers came in.

Jasmine was about to respond to Dwight's question when a pair of doors connecting the cafe to the adjacent convention center opened up, revealing a young man and woman in costume.

And these were costumes someone had put a lot of time into.

The guy was in a brown cloak and hood that looked too weathered to actually have seen that much weather. In one hand he carried one of those books that was probably labeled "ancient wizard's tome" if you bought it off a movie set. In the other hand, he held a long staff that had twists and knobs in it that never came from nature.

The woman's face had a pale white base on it with dark stripes. In addition, she was wearing white cat ears and a long white wig to complete the look. She was also wearing a tight white bodysuit, also with black stripes. Over that, she wore a catholic school girl's outfit that was both demure and revealing. To complete the look, she had a long tail coming out from underneath her skirt that was shaped like a "U", but worn so that it wasn't going to lift the skirt unintentionally,

The costumed couple and the cafe customers stared at each other for a few minutes before the faux wizard and feline woman retreated back into the convention center.

Jasmine stared at the door the couple had retreated behind for a few more seconds, before turning back to Dwight. "I'm sorry, what was the question?"

"Its interesting what some people like to do isnt it" Dwight said as her attention returned back to him.

"I am a pretty big nerd my self" Dwight remarked nodding at the convention "Its been a long time since I went to one though..... Have you ever been to a historical reenactment? Or a live action role play? If so I would recommend it! Its a fun way to go play a character and lose your self"

He noted the food coming and thanked the waitress. He waited for her to eat before he began himself munching on his sandwich as he watched her.

"Do you have to get back after lunch? Or would you like to come see the offices?" He asked raising an eyebrow.

Point of fact, Jasmine didn't have any plans for the afternoon, but she hadn't planned on spending half the day with Dwight either.

Still, things had gone well on their last "not-a-date" date, and lunch had gone well.

So, maybe...

"Sure, I think I'd like to see the heart of your burgeoning empire," she said, trying to keep her tone light and teasing.

"Excellent" Dwight said his eyes widening with pleasure as he smiled. He rose pulling his suit jacket back on and paying for the meal before gesturing for her to follow him. His office was right around the corner and soon they were ushered in by his doorman.

"Welcome to my company" Dwight said smiling as they walked past reception and into the elevator "I have the top floor just hang on one moment"

Dwight moved past her brushing her as he put in the code for his penthouse office. Their bodies were close his skin hot to the touch as he turned to smile at her.

"So does your company occupy all this building, or just the top floor?" Jasmine asked, suddenly becoming very aware of hers and Dwight's proximity. She stepped away from him, feeling a little self-conscious.

"Uh all of it" Dwight said he to noticing the space and clearing his throat "We used to just own the top but we steadily worked our way down"

The door dinged leading them into a large circular office room. There was windows every where giving off a 360 degree of the downtown area.

"Welcome to my office" Dwight said smiling and waving his hands "Feel free to look around! I just need to check my emails really fast"

He walked over to his desk sliding in and checking as he watched her from the corner of his eye.

It was quite an impressive view, Jasmine thought. She was about to say to Dwight when her smartphone buzzed.

Looking at the message displayed, she frowned. "Sorry, Mom's irked about something and she wants to see me, Mr. Eisenberg," she told Dwight. "I'll have to take a rain check on the rest of the tour."

"Ah I see" Dwight said his face falling slightly as he heard her say she had to go. He rose from his desk leaving his emails for now as he went back to the elevator.

"I'll walk you down" He said smiling at her as he hit the call button for the elevator. He waited for it to come up and then held it for her stepping in after her and hitting the button for the ground floor.

"I hope every thing is okay?" He said glancing over at her "If you need to get out and about afterwards let me know and you can come back"

"I'll have to see, Mr. Eisenberg," Jasmine answered, this time not distancing herself from him as they stood in close proximity in the elevator. "But I don't think I want to wait as long between our next meeting. If that's okay with you."

"Well you took the words right out of my mouth" Dwight said unable to stop himself from smiling "Let me know and I will set it up" He said hesitating before deciding to go for broke. He moved forward placing a light hand on her cheek and leaning in to kiss her cheek before stepping back.

but letting his hand linger for a moment or two

Jasmine blushed but waited a second or two before stepping back from Dwight's touch.

"And there's my ride," Jasmine said, as the elevator doors opened up and a taxi could be seen waiting just outside the lobby doors.

And with that, she was gone.

Dwight waved good bye to her sucking in a unsteady breath. They had been so close to..... Well to some thing! He wasnt sure however.

But he was eager to find out

ONE WEEK LATER

"So I was wondering if you might want to go on the boat this weekend?" Dwight asked cradling the phone to his hear as he waited on her answer. He was in his office leaning back on his chair signing a few simple release forms and paperwork as he talked to her.

It was a couple hours later when she got home that Jasmine got she received Dwight's email about going out on his boat.

She sat at her keyboard, thinking how to respond. Her cheek flushed as she remember the tender kiss Dwight had placed there. He had changed since they had started meeting. Still, she remembered him offering her money on their blind date, and saying sex didn't have to be involved in future meetings. His crassness and vulgarity still stung.

Still, he had changed a little, she allowed,

But a boat trip pretty much meant she had nowhere to retreat to if something didn't go the way she wanted.

So she started typing.

"Dear Mr. Eisenberg,

Perhaps we should have a couple more get togethers before we take the three hour cruise on your sailboat. And I think we may need some more ground rules.

Jasmine"

Pressing send, Jasmine wondered what Dwight's response would be.

His response came back moments later

"Fair enough however you make it sound as if you dont trust me"

"Tell you what why dont you state your ground rules and we start from there as I am eager to see how a woman such as your self negotiates"

Yours Sincerely

Dwight

Jasmine couldn't help but smile as she read Dwight's missive, then quickly typed out a reply.

"Mr. Eisenberg, I think you've misunderstood me. I'm not negotiating. I'm dictating terms. Jasmine."

The last was added with a string of laughing emojis as Jasmine sent the email.

"Fair enough" Came his reply

"Then do tell me what the terms are so that way I can be wary of them for our next date" He typed back to her leaning back and waiting for a reply.

"Date, and not a meeting?" she typed, putting an emoji that winked at the end of a sentence.

She paused, and then had to admit, that after that kiss, no matter how innocent it was, everything from here on out was going to be a date. Not a friendly hanging out with Mr. Eisenberg, but a date with Dwight.

"Well, I guess if we're dating, you need to understand that I really don't have a lot of experience," she confessed. Almost none at all, she thought to herself.

"So I expect you to take it slow, stop when I say stop, and not to expect reciprocity." She blushed brightly as she typed that last word, not even allowing herself to think of all the connotations that the use of that word could imply.

"Will that be a problem?"

Dwight had to admit he was a little surprised when she cited a lack of experience. She was a little more studious then most girls at her age but still she was very very pretty and he had such a hard time believing she hadnt been courted very seriously.

"I can take it slow if you wish me to after all I have been so far" Dwight reminded her typing in the words "And I am not going to force my self on you I have no want or care to even if I do want very much for us to get closer so yes I agree to your terms and have one of my own I would like very much if you start approaching our get together with a dating mentality and not as simple as two friends meeting.

Dating mentality, Jasmine thought. She wondered what he meant by that.

"Well, maybe a merger of the two worlds," she typed. "Hegelian. You know, friends hanging out as the thesis, dating as the antithesis, and some kind of mixture as the synthesis."

Wow, I am getting practical, real world use of that Western philosophy class.

"But still, I set the speed, and I get to put the brakes on anytime I want to. Agreed?" she asked.

"I believe I have been letting you set the tone" Came his reply

"I have not pressed you for any thing more and will continue not to do so" He told her in his email "That being said I would like us to move forward with our relationship instead of this one date every few weeks and then you cutting it short"

"If you cant do that then I guess we shall remain friends"

"Well," Jasmine responded, "I was seeing that the city is hosting a Harvest Moon Regatta. I'd be comfortable sailing with you on a bay full of sailing ships under a full moon. And that's a week from this Saturday night. That'll give me time to do some shopping. What do you think?"

He thought on it before replying

"That sounds good to me I was planning on joining the Regatta I will finalize that and then meet you at the dock that night"

"I look forward to it"

ONE WEEK LATER

Dwight pulled up to his private dock leaving his car and walking over to the wooden entrance way. He was dressed down a simple pair of shorts and a blue sweater. He waited for her before going to the sailing boat at the far end of the dock humming to himself as he scanned the area for her.

Jasmine's mother and aunt had taken her shopping for her first sailing trip, though Jasmine's mother was under the impression that the sailing trip was being made with friends and classmates. Jasmine's aunt knew the truth, of course, that Jasmine would be spending the night with a man twice her age (though Jasmine would only be spending the night with Dwight in the most platonic sense of the phrase possible).

The two big purchases that Jasmine had gotten out of the trip were a pair of sailing gloves for handling the lines and shoes with nonskid bottoms. Jasmine showed up on the pier with ankle length loose white jeans, a loose gray sweater that left her wrists bare, and her long hair pulled back into a loose ponytail. The taste of salt on the cool sea breeze put a bounce in her step as she walked up to Dwight.

"Reporting for duty, Cap'n Eisenberg," she said with a grin.
