The cat tales thread

This morning Billy joined hubby in the shower. Well, not quite - he sat on the vanity unit and poked his head around the shower curtain to have a long talk with hubby.

After he got out of the shower he discovered what Billy was so excited about, when he told on it with bare feet. Someone had caught and brought in a large "moth" to play with. It's soggy and somewhat mangled remains were on the carpet in front of the heater.

When I removed it, I realised it wasn't a moth. It had at least one pincer claw. (Did I mention it was rather mangulated and wet? Particularly after hubby had stepped on it)

So... do I read that as... well... what the heck was it? Fuzzy like a moth. Pincer claw... a fuzzy scorpion? A bat? mmm... some kind of fuzzy Aussie beetle?

I think it was some kind of beetle, with the hard wing casings gone. Whatever it was, it was very dead.

And Billy was very proud of himself, either that or he was dobbing someone else in :D

I found a cricket in the house... my boy had ripped both its rear legs off. Then he just watched it twitch and desperately try to get away. Not a sadist or anything... and I raised him to be so sweet! What happened to my little angel?

Hey, HE'S A CAT.:catroar:

That's what dustpans are for ;)

Be thankful - Billy's the one who chased home a (very alive and rather pissed off) brown snake.

I just wish he'd kill them. Twitching live creatures such as birds... lizards... bugs... aren't my cup of tea.

Mine neither...which is why I take up lizards that have been stupid enough to make their way into the house and put them outside.

Thank GOD there aren't too many rattlesnakes where I'm at. I could just see mine making THAT error!

Brown snakes. Aren't most snake bites in Australia attributed to those sneaky little devils? (I watched Crocodile Hunter a lot on Animal Planet) :D

Browns are very common, particularly around here, and they're number 2 (I think, or is it 3) on the world's most venomous list.

-chuckles- One of the things that's definitely fun is watching cats with catnip. Every few days I pop open the container, and is about the only thing that will bring Ash running. She absolutely loves to chow down on a bit of offered catnip. Pumpkin, however, is more in tune with the idea of just rubbing against the container.

I haven't tried it with most of the current bunch, but I've never had a cat that cared for catnip at all.

Mind you, I'll have to try it with the heffalumps - I have a feeling Harry would be a complete junkie :)

LOL oh thats Ash...she loves to put her paw inside the container and try to pull some out.

So yesterday, I settled into my room to take a nap, shutting the door in the process. I wake up after one of those types of dreams that drags ya awake. As I lay there semi-awake I hear Pumpkin meow and then a thud of him hitting the door, then he strolls on over towards the bed, so I'm thinking he just made his way in. He looks at me, and meows with a rather happy look on his face and runs up on the bed to me. After a couple caresses, he goes to the door again, then...comes back and repeats. I finally got up to see what the commotion was, and realized he musta been asleep under the couch before I passed out. Poor kitty...all he wanted was to go use the litterbox!

So we get home last night. We open the door and walk in to the greetings of no one.

By the time I lug the suitcase into the bedroom Bubba has come out to investigate. She's stropping my legs and meowing up a storm. He's soon joined by Magi. I kneel down to say hi to both of then and am mugged by them. They are climbing all over me.

When I move ou to the kitchen Smokey is laying on the Fridge and meowing up a storm. She wants a scritch in the worst way.

Finally I make my way to the computer. My wife is sitting on the cough getting mugged by Magi and Bubba. Squeek slides up beside me then slithers into my lap. I can't move without her grabbing at my paw. We still haven't seen Scrapper.

After a bit we head for bed. Magi, Squeek and Bubba join us in bed for a while. They want some loving. Finally things settle down a bit and I roll over to get some sleep. Now Scrapper makes her appearance. She jumps onto the bed and starts making noise as she walks around us. Every time I try to scratch her she moves away. I give up and roll over to get some sleep. My eyes are just closing when I feel the cold of a nose aginst my arm. When I look here's Scrapper pushing up against me.

I didn't have a chance to move. Scrapper pushed her way under my arm and curled up against me. Her head was tucked under my chin and she was laying there purring quietly. When I started scratching her she started purring even louder. When I fell asleep she was laying there and when I woke up she was still there.

Today as I move around the place Scrapper is always there. When I sit down the other cats come by for a scritch then here comes Scrapper. She hops in my lap and curls up. In some ways it's nice but in other ways it's a pain in the tail.

Cat

Yesterday I decided a certain rotund Burmese needed to expand her view of the world. She spends her entire day curled up on the foot of my bed. The only time she moves is when hungry, needed the loo or when Harry the Hairy decides to annoy her. Occasionally she will sit on the windowsill and very very rarely she will actually set foot outside the caravan.

So I took her out. Outside. For a walk. I went over to the far corner boundary to check the progress (or death) of the baby trees. When I got there, I put her down.

She complained. Bitterly. Then proceeded to walk, like she was on hot coals, back to the caravan. She stopped here and there to investigate interesting smells, but she didn't tarry long.

By the time I got back, she was curled up on the foot of my bed in exactly the same place she'd been when I grabbed her.

Somehow I don't think she'll ever be a great outdoorskitty.

We've had some rather nasty weather here for the past couple of days. The kids haven't liked it, they have been more than a bit friendly.

This afternoon I sat in the recliner from hell and pushed the seatback back a bit. Hell, I'll admit to even putting my feet up. Before I knew it Scrapper had joined me. For the first minute or two she had her butt in the air and her face buried against my hip, then she lay down and started to purr.

I had been busy this morning and could feel myself drifting when Magi hopped up to join me. He crawled up my chest and lay down with his head on my shoulder purring like mad.

The next thing I knew I was waking up in the recliner. Magi was on my chest snoozing and his sister Scrapper was asleep in my lap. When I shifted, trying to sit up Magi opened an eye ad growled slgihtly. His message was clear. Move and you'll pay.

With the rain falling outside and the purrs of the cats on me I soon drifted off to sleep once again.

Later on I woke to the feel of a cold nose on my face. Magi wanted me to wake up. He wanted to wander out onto the patio to check out what was going on.

He sat out there and watched as I fixed the roof and trimmed some branches.

Now I'm sitting here and listening to him yowling from the bedroom door. This is his way of telling me it's time for bed. (He'll wake me at right around 0430 tomorrow morning.) Damn it's like having another mother in the house.

Cat

We have a mama kitty. She's adopted young son.

It is the most wonderful thing.

She hangs out in his room when he is playing on computer, at times sitting in his chair with him. Sometimes she watches over him from the top of his dresser.

She'll snuggle next to him until he falls asleep, then she leaves to join the rest of the house.

She's a lovely and adoring kitty, one of our rescued strays, but her mothering truly took us by surprise.

Thing is, the neighbors who used to own her (rolling eyes here) had kids who were rough with her. That's one of the reasons we took her off their hands. Ahem.

We thought she wouldn't like kids because of her previous treatment.

But no.

We are blessed.

:rose:

So my cat has a fetish. Yes. You heard me. Fetish.

Now what does a tomcat find in the world to be... fetished about? You know what I mean by fetish, right?

Eyes glassy, drooling, kneading with paws, instantly attracted...

You might think it's the cute girls next door. Or maybe even a slight "nip" addiction. No.

What does he desire, drool for, knead with his paws, get glassy-eyed for... PLASTIC GROCERY BAGS. You know the kind... like what you get from Wal-Mart. (Actually he seems to prefer the Wal-Mart bags more than Target, or even Fry's.)

If he wasn't 'tutored' I think he'd... well... you know, with the bags.

Right now... he's sleeping with the most recent additions to the plastic bag collection. He just loves them, the static electricty, their distinctive noise, their flavor as he suckles upon them, the sliminess after he's drooled on them.

Think he's got a problem?

I'm wondering if there's a support group.

So I'm sitting here at the computer minding my own bussiness. I've said hi to all of the Herd and given each one some loving. They have been fed and watered.

So as I say I'm sitting here at the somputer when Bubba comes over for another scratch. I give him one and he wanders off. It seems though that he's not satisfied. He comes back and gives me a couple of head butts. When I dont respond to this he tries his trick of grabbing at my arm. I reach down and give him a quick scratch before returning to the Internet. He batts at my ankle for more attention and I ignore this. Then he gets my attention.

Bubba grabs my left arm just above the elbow with his paws and starts chewing on my arm. He's not biting hard but I can certainly feel it. When I move my arm he stops trying to bite me, looks at me and hops ito my lap. He wants attention and he's not going to be denied.

So now I'm sitting here with a 16 pound cat sprawled across my lap as I type.

Cat

We have many cats and doves in a cage.

One of our cats spends all day sitting in front of the dove cage.

The doves don't like this.

The cat looks at us, wondering why we don't open the cage for him.

They actually taste good to kitties. All the synthetic oils.
