You need your wall color picked out first, chica. Or at least start with a theme... Blue? Off white?

Completely agree. Choose your wall color first, then the tile. Even within a specific price point, there is an overwhelming selection when it comes to tile. When you know your wall color, that narrows the options so much!

And when in doubt, white glossy is a classic for a reason. You can punch it up by getting a tile with a wavy surface or other texture element, choosing something with different dimensions than standard subway, going with a herringbone pattern, or by choosing an accent line in a color that coordinates with your wall.

I always have a theme. Art Deco (black and white with splashes of red), beach (sand, different blues), etc.

Eek, we went tile first because the contractor needs that before paint colors! Too late now…

Darn contractors. If you have to go with tile first, do you have a friend with a good eye? Someone who knows the space (how big, how much natural light, etc) and whose taste you like will potentially help you cut through the noise and get down to a shortlist pretty fast!

I can't do that. I'm a greedy bitch. He visits all the time and during the summer? That smooth brown skin when he's at the river? Devil. I tell hubby not to worry if he goes before me - I'll be able to handle myself.
