Robert Preston - Bridge and Backgammon Master
ooc: Robert Preston is a 55 year old widower spwending his summers on cruise ships, teaching bridge and backgammon (and other dainty little games) and running duplicate bridge tournaments on board during cruises, sanctioned by the ACBL with masters points awarded to winners. In the evenings I also attend the dances, as an extra partner for ladies travelling unescorted. The cruises are free except for incidental expenses i.e. the bar bill etc, but it's a pleasant way to spend the summers and be involved with people.
ic: With the ship getting underway there is nothing I do except kabitz, remembering my navy days as a shiphandler and Officer of the Deck underway, being quite careful not to make any comments that the Captain might find critical.
I just wandered around making sure the passengers find their way to the several bars and lounges, the swimming pool, and the dining area etc, being of help wherever I am able. Until we are outside the 12 mile limit and into international waters, gambling isnt permitted, and the casino is closed until tonight after the evening meal. Walking by the pool on the SunDeck topside I see several ladies getting their tans underway. With their scanty attire I am sure our Medical Officer will have some customers in the morning if they overdo it, as happens on every cruise.
