The "Damn, I hurt!" Thread

Legs and feet still look like overstuffed sausage after 3 days on the diuretics. If anyone has any idea how long it'll still take before my legs blow up, I'd like to hear from them.

Those pills are supposed to make me evacuate all those fluids but I haven't noticed any changes in my urine quantity or frequency.

Anyone got an idea? Legs and feet don't hurt, but I can't curl my toes or rotate my ankles at all......the reception between feet and brain doesn't seem to reach. :(

What diuretics are you on? How much water are you drinking?

After 3 days you should have seen some definite changes in urine output. Start monitoring it closely.

I have ankylosing spondilitis mainly in in hips and neck; gallstones; Type II diabetes and raised blood pressure. Two pills a day and a statin deal with the last two. The ankylosing spondilitis I consider to be mild. I've had it for thirty years but it wasn't diagnosed until 5 years ago. I had lived with the pain for 25 years, diagnosed as psychosomatic until they took detailed X-rays 5 years ago. I still live with the pain most of the time. When I take painkillers I tend to feel "spaced-out".

The gallstones? Most of the time the only symptom is that I rattle when I roll over in bed. When they flare up? Ouch!

My spine "shows signs of massive repeated trauma with all the processes flattened" according to my radiologist. That's what years of incompetent sport does to you. I played rugby, raced motorcycles across country, climbed rock faces, mountains and buildings, surfed, rode horses cross-country, was part of a cliff-rescue team. The other rugby players seemed to fall on me. I fell off the motorcycles, rock faces, mountains, the surf, the horses and the cliffs. If I had been any good at any of those activities I suppose it might have been worth the damage but I was always an "also competed".

On bad days I have to use a cane. I have long litter-pickers around the house and in the car because I cannot bend to pick up anything I've dropped.

I can walk. On a good day I can walk several miles before a food break and then several miles more. On a bad day I can walk half a mile - so I'm not disabled by UK standards. I don't use disabled parking spaces even on a bad day.

What is irritating is that I can't sit in one place, even in the most comfortable chair, for longer than an hour. That restricts travel on public transport or movie and theatre visits. If I can I book a seat on the end of a row at a movie or at the theatre and I take a walk in the interval. I can stand for about half an hour but not much longer than that.

The AS entitles me to a key to a disabled toilet. That is my total claim on public funds or facilities. I can use a toilet even when most are shut. Unfortunately most disabled toilets are designed ONLY for wheelchair users and the washbasins and other equipment are too low for me to reach comfortably. However disabled toilets are less frequently vandalised and tend to have toilet paper when the normal toilets don't.

But at my age, what can I expect? Most things work except my spine. I don't allow my medical conditions to stop me doing things even if sometimes I have to be creative about pacing myself.

Yeah those too. Or how going grocery shopping is quite an ordeal because I have to sit, squat or bend in two to relieve some pressure in back and people are looking at me like I'm a loony.

How entering the hospital for tests, the first thing people see is an 'apprently" healthy 40 yo woman who walks like she's ninety and holding herself on the wall so she can put one foot in front of the other. How walking the distance from one department to the next takes me 10-15 minutes when it should take 3-4 at the most. How after walking from department to department I'm sweating like a pig over the overexertion I've just put my body through.

What hurts the most? It's seeing the disgust in my kids' friends' eyes because I'm 'once again' in my Pj's or napping on the sofa. It's hearing those same kids whisper to my children that their mother is a slob and having my kids defend me to them. THAT hurts the most. :(

OOOOOOOOOOOO the echoes in my mind
(((((((((CYBELLE))))))))))))) you be awesome no matter the ratty brats say

I'm looking into that treatment, Millie. Yeah I'm drinking like a water horse. But I'm just not pissing more. I've always had a good urine retention and when I go it feels like niagara falls, so nothing has changed. I still pee like crazy, not more, not less.

Dandylion Root Tea ( a cup or two a day) or fresh dandy lion leaves and flowers in your salad...and Edlerberry Flower * Witchhazel compresses....and yes they can be done warm...

AND you all will love this

HOT TUB THERAPY :)

hehehe

the deep submersion of swollen lower extremeties allows the body to reduces its swelling naturally... Something about the water pressure even just a couple of feet lower than normal surface .... they find it does wonders for those who suffer from edema of the legs... which I get all the fucking time these days... ugh what a terrible feeling!

Oh and Having some one gently but firmly massaging the tissues in of your feet and legs upwards towards your heart (Oh about 15 minutes each leg) and you will be pleasantly surprised at how the swelling comes down....

With the fibro though it might be really tender... so be GENTLE with it :)

Been there.
I hate telling people I'm on disability, they immediately look at you to see if you have fake limbs or something. Part of my disability is my depression.
I have good days and bad days like everyone else. I don't feel the need to explain my pain to them.

I hear ya Darling (((((ABS)))))):kiss::kiss::kiss:

Even when i was in a fucking wheel chair for a year in a half people looked at me like they expected me to be "Healed" in front of their very eyes.... egads.... the jerks.

*nods*
Physical or emotional. It spurs me to get away, in any way I can. I can lose myself sometimes when I write, and I also get that little endorphin rush when someone reads it and tells me how much they enjoy it.

All those little endorphins are wonderful painkillers. *smile*

Indeed indeed
its the little things ike that that make this "suffering" almost worth it at times.

I read... I write... I watch... I dream...

But hell - inspiration comes in the weirdest time and places... I would have killed for paper and pen the other day as this really funky word collection started forming in my head about pain and suffering and its corresponding similies and metaphors to what is going on in the world and the cyle of the earths seasons to boot.... on and on... I tried to remember--- but the dilaudid took it away......

If its meant to be written it will return :)

Kisses all!:kiss::kiss::kiss::kiss:

I just dont fucking care right now what others see

I have huge black circles under my eyes
my lips look positively ancient with wrinkles for grimacing for five months straight
the furrow in my brow is surpassing the grand canyon and heading strait for the madras fault
I managed to put mascara on the other day and wanted to claw my eyes out as I was no longer used to wearing it and I feel, all very subjective of course, reactive with my meds....

So fuck em.

But I will say this... When I have managed to have a lovely day with only marginal pain (oh about 7 on their scales LOL about three on mine) I set about meticulously grooming myself, the works ya know, even if its sans music and without the pleasure of some one else doing it for me :), then of course makeup and pretty clothes and soft gentle loving with me darling SO....

But damn its been a long time since I have felt like that.... we're both hungry :):cattail:

I have often pondered the whys and wherefores of ill health... and I am asking in advance for pardon if this seems ---- out there....or even incoherent... its hard to explain to myself...let alone some one else

As a studier of things spiritual and metaphysical. and preforce medical - psychiatric...I wonder about how since each and every one of us is genetically unique - an original - no two - even twinsies- exactly alike that we can be treated as a whole "general idea" entity when it comes to vulnerabilities.

I see that we are all the same and all very different and yet--we suffer from dibilitating conditions- and of course every one thinks its contagious ! ... and can show few outward signs of it from sheer will and determination alone. We who suffer constant pain or weakness or depression do become ennured to it.
Some one mentioned it earlier... you learn to get past it some how... one second at a time literally and moment by moment we survive well

damnit this is not coming out right... we store and hold our soul selves our mind selves our body selves and all the other possible forms we can take, within this totally unique creation called I, me, mine, my self. We have memories that come from our very first glimmer aeons ago till now.

In some ways I wonder if the diseases we suffer from are somehow affect of this "memory" (akashic records, past life recall, rebirthing etc) this. If we look at ALL of it science-faith-belief-heresay-tangents (whatever), I find that if one can bring those out of sync, or damaged "etheric" levels into harmony our physical selves can then come into harmony again. Suffering originally meant Under Going - Traversing. And though it is a hearty pain in the ass we do endure.

So it makes me wonder about WHY me.... and I look around at my natural penchants of care and compassion and understanding... and had a aha moment - that lead me to a feeling of yeah thats one good reason I am here...

Becuase I (collectively we), can honestly turn to another and say - Yeah - I do understand where you are coming from! and share our stories... it enriches us and derides us, it compells and drains us. We are reminded wholly of our frailties and our faults. But in it we are also reminded of our Strengths and Virtues. We are all of strong beyond measure and weak with confusion at times. Else we would have returned home long ago.

There is so much information out there...

I wish I could just string these thoughts I have ruminated on for years to coherency....

Its all connected! I just kind find the path right now...bleeping meds

I'm taking 'furosemide' is it's any help to you. I wouldn't know how much fluid I drink since I'm not measuring it but I never have an empty glass in front of me.
As soon as I empty it, either my kids or husband refill it for me.

That's pretty coherent to me, Christa.:rose::kiss: Anyone who's ever felt that kind of pain/illness/sickness/whatever one names it, know that they can empathize with someone else and truly know what that person is talking about.

It doesn't need to be the same pain to deeply understand what that person is going through. Each individual has the God/Goddess/omniscient potential but I've noticed (in my study and real life) that one who has felt pain/sickness etc...,deeply encountered it, cannot, for the life of them, not understand when someone talk about his/her own pain.

Amen sister.

I still get angry when I hear mothers say to their girls "oh its ONLY period pain". It was *only* period pain for 13 years until someone LISTENED to me.

Thank god for drugs...

I'll add my huggles to Christa's.

Legs and feet still ballooned like overstuffed sausages. I'm waiting on the doctor's call to see what he intends to do. Apparently, according to his nurse, the swelling should have been down two days after starting to take the pills, so somewhere Friday.

It's not painful, just annoying that I can't curl my toes and/or rotate my ankles.

On top of that, I'm still exhausted. Taking a shower is an ordeal, coming down in the morning tires me so much, I'm starting to wonder if I should just give up and stay in bed all day. I can't even stand up at the stove fixing myself something to eat, the pain and tiredness gets thousand times worse after just a few minutes of standing up. :(

Shit -
I just realized the meds are affecting something else
I have been dancing in the painful past and coming up covered in mud
god damn it
god damn it
god damn it
fuckers better call me in the morning

It does get a little better. Mark is furious with himself if he's in bed longer than 11am. (I'm usually still there with a headache) Half the battle is getting *up*.

I hate that my back surgery that was screwed up by falling down a flight of stairs affects my balance and everything else in my life. I crashed into a stupid plastic tub of dog food and ended up falling last night. I smashed my shin, hit my head on a blanket chest that is sitting at the foot of my bed and wrenched the hell out of my shoulder when I landed. Today is going to be a bad pain day.
