The Dark Carnival

Cordillia was running back to where she left the cop and ran into him while HE was trying to find her. He grabbed her quickly and his face told her that he was not happy.

She didnt have time for explanations and she doubted he would believe her anyway. Grabbing ahold of his uniform she gasped/cried out,"Arrest me! Take me in for drugs or resisting an officer or whatever you want! Just get me the hell out of here!"

He looked at her with surprise on his face but didnt move. She guessed she had really shocked him with her statement. And then it was to late, turning her head, she could see Jace, or what used to be Jace, coming towards them and he had a large hammer with him.

"Oh, god," She thought to herself,"He's gonna kill me." She tried to pull away from the cop but he had too good of a grip on her this time. He wasnt about to let her go.

She was crying, tears spilling down her face which was red from the efforts she had been through when she heard Jace say,"Well, hello, officer. Nice day isnt it."

She looked up at the officer her eyes pleading for him to get them both out of here but he was not looking at her but instead was staring straight at whatever it was that used to be her boyfriend.

The police officer looked at Al and said, "Why yes it is, I think I have found what you've been looking for."

"Thank you officer. She is a feisty one. Now dear, you are coming with me."

Cordillia started to shout abuse at him as he grabbed her arm and pull her along. Al just smiled when he looked back and her and said, "Don't worry my dear, it will be over quite soon."

Cordilla looked at the officer stunned and she suddenly realized that he had the same look in his eyes as did Jace. Looking around at everyone in the carnival she noticed that all of them that met her eye had the same look.

"Oh my god," Cordilla thought as Jace dragged her along,"What has happened here?"

She felt like she had been caught in a living nightmare until she heard Jace's comment. Then she came alive. Biting and scratching and flailing at him with the arm he did not hold.

"Let me go you son of a bitch," She screamed at him,"Let me go." When that did not work she started crying again and pleaded,"Please let me go. I dont know what you want with me but I'm not worth your time. Just let me go and I will dissapear and you will never see me again."

She didnt exactly know what she was saying just that she was babbling on in her fear. This couldnt be happening, it just couldnt.

Al looked at the woman, Cordillia with glee and said, "No, I will never hear or see from you again. No one else will either."

He then threw her against a wall of the booth and looked at her, "Stay there, this will be over quite quickly. I wish that it wasn't but I guess that this is the way that it has got to be."

He then raised the hammer over his shoulder and swung with all his might and hatred towards Cordillia.

Cordillia saw the hammer coming and reacted instinctively. She ducked down and slammed her shoulder into her 'boyfriends' groin.

As he dropped with a groan, she took off again. She had to get out of her but how. Every where she looked the people were like zombies. But you couldnt tell it unless you looked in thier eyes.

Trying to get out of sight from anyone who could see that she was not like them, she ducked into a nearby tent and squeezed into the shadows. Her chest heaved and her lungs hurt and she couldnt think what to do next.

The only way out of here was blocked by all these people and the only other solution was to kill Jace before he could kill her.

She almost started weeping at the thought. Jace-kind, loving, generous Jace. She could still see the look of tenderness in his eyes as he greeted her earlier that day and it made the thought even more unbearable.

She had to find a way out of here and and to her car. She could drive off and maybe get help from her parents or someone.

Suddenly Cordillia stood straight up. Yes, that was it she could find hers and Jace's parents and bring them back. They would believe her.

With that thought in mind, she stumbled her way to the back of the tent and lay flat on the ground. Wiggling her body, she was able to squirm out of the tent and run off towards the car park.

Al got to his feet and looked around. Now he was pissed, that bitch had hurt him badly and he was was going to make her pay. He walked up to the police officer that had been holding her and shouted out, "Where the fuck is she!"
"I don't know. She has disappeared."
Al picked the man up off his feet and said, "How can that bitch disappear in here. We control this place and she just happens to be the only real human left. Now, find her!"
"Yes sir."
The police officer then ran off seconds before Al fell to the floor and screamed out in pain.

A full minute later Jace stood and shook his head. He looked around, trying to remember what had happened.

Cordillia ran and ran until she had to stop and catch her breath while leaning on a wall of one of the empty stalls.

"Damnit," She said gasped,"I know that the car park was near by. We only went on one ride for heavens sake."

It was almost like the carnival itself was trying to swallow her so that 'Jace's' statement would come true and no one would ever see her again.

She looked around and she seemed to be in the middle of the carnival. She knew the car port was to the east so she gathered herself together and headed that way. As she went she prayed she could just get to her car in time to get the hell out of here and never come back.

Jace stumbled around, as thought he was still in a dream. He still tried to think of what had happened to him when it all came back to him. That thing in the mirror had taken over his body and made him do things but where was it now and where was Cordillia, he hoped to god that she wasn't with him or worse, dead.

He then tripped up and fell to the ground just as he heard footsteps then saw a person running away from him, someone very familiar. He then called out, "Cordillia, wait!"

He then began to get to his feet.

Cordillia whirled when she heard the familiar voice behind her and she screamed. Grabbing some balls from the nearby games booth she started throwing them at him.

She never did make the girls softball team in high school and it showed. The balls either missed or glanced off his shoulders or chest without really hurting him.

"You stay away from me," She screamed at him,"Or I swear I'll kill you."

Grabbing a bat from the ball cage that was next to the game booth she held it in her hands defensively, her arms shaking at what she would have to do to Jace as well as whatever possessed him.

"I swear, I will knock your head off of your shoulders, you son of a bitch, if you even come near me."

Jace looked at Cordillia, "Whoa, whoa. It's me...Jace. You have got to believe that it is me."

He moved closer but before he could say another word she swung the baseball bat which slammed into his arm. Jace fell to the ground with a thud and then looked up at her. When he saw her raise the bat over her head and the look on her face he shouted out, "Don't. It's me! Jace!"

Cordillia took in sobbing breaths as she held the bat above her head preparing to smash it against Jace's skull. Before she did, she looked into his eyes. She knew it was the only way she was going to be able to do this-only if she could see the thing that stared out of his eyes.

She was startled enough to take a step back. She didnt see it-the evil light that had stared at her while Jace's arms swung a hammer to kill her was gone. All she could see was his beautiful eyes filled with fear.

"Jace?," She mumbled and then felt her knees give out from under her and she fell to the ground-sobbing and leaning on the bat for support.

She could feel him come near her but she couldnt find the energy to lift her head up to look at him. She tensed as she felt his hands on her shoulders.

Jace knelt down in front of Cordillia and lifted her head up to look into her eyes. When he saw the tears in her eyes he felt like his heart had just been ripped apart. He looked at her and said, "What is going on here. I tried to kill you."

Jace then got to his feet and said, "I don't think that I can be near you Cordillia. I don't trust myself and I'm afraid that I will hurt you again. You should get as far away from me as you can and try to get the hell out of here. I have already been touched by this thing and it could take me over again and I don't want you anywhere near me when that happens."

Cordillia started to say something but before she could Jace cut her off, "Go! I don't trust myself!"

Cordillia tried to calm herself down. She shook her head vigorously at Jaces suggestions and dropped the bat to take hold of him and draw him near.

"NO!," She exclaimed. Somewhere finding the strength to stand firm,"I wont leave you, Jace, and you cant force me to."

"I almost killed you too-just a few minutes ago. I was ready to take your head off with that bat. You werent yourself back then but now you are and we are BOTH getting out of this cursed place."

When he tried to turn away from her she clung on tighter and said,"Damnit, Jace, I love you and I am not going to give you up without a fight!"

Standing on her tiptoes, she put her arms around him and kissed him before saying,"Now lets get the hell out of here."

Jace kissed Cordillia back before saying, "That is the best thing that you have said to me today, now let's get-"

He didn't finish, the next thing he knew was that he was lying on the ground and he heard a familiar voice say, "You haven't forgotten about me have you whimp. Now is my chance to kill you and have my way with your girlfriend."

"No!" Jace shouted out before he got to his feet and picked up the baseball bat to look at a figure that was so hideous he knew that he would have nightmares about it for a long time.

Standing before him was a thing that looked human but instead of arms it had snake like tendrils which were moving of seeming there own accord. Jace looked at the thing and saw one thing in its eyes, pure hatred and evil. He raised his bat but before he could swing it one of the tendrils shot out and slammed into his chest, knocking him off his feet and into one of the booths.

Cordillia cried out at the sight before her but her fear turned to anger as she say Jace felled by the foul thing.
Picking up the fallen bat, she stood protectively over Jace and yelled at the thing.

"Get away from him,"She shouted,"Dont you dare touch him. You have done enough to him today and you will have to kill me to get to him."

She never doubted that the thing wouldnt have second thoughts about destroying her but she was hoping her bravado would take it by surprise.

It did and, as the tendrils stopped going for Jace, she swung aiming right for his hateful eyes. The fact that she hated those evil lights fueled her swing and she heard the sickening thump before she saw the trendrils jerk up and away from Jace to go to its battered face.

Holding onto the bat with one hand and grabbing Jace's hand with the other, she urged him to his feet.
"Come on!," She yelled to him,"lets get out of here."

Jace looked at Cordillia and said, "What, what's happening."

"We are getting out of here, that is what's happening!" Cordillia shouted at him.

Before Jace could answer they both heard a shout, "I am going to get you for that, that is the second time that you have hurt me you bitch!"

Both of then moved faster through the booths until Jace saw a funhouse and said, "In there, we should go in there. That is the only place that we'll be safe."

Cordillia did not even question how Jace knew this she just accepted the fact that he did. Heading into the fun house on his heels, she skidded to a stop as she incountered the sight of her and Jace-in every shape and form.

For a few minutes she was confused and then it dawned on her that they were in the hall of mirrors and were staring at reflections of themselves.

Pulling Jace deeper inside she looked up at him,"Do you think we will be able to lose him in here?

Jace looked at her and said, "I hope so because I don't think that I can go anywhere else."

"What do you mean, are you tired?

Jace just looked at her and was about to answer but before he could he slipped into unconsciousness.

The young policeman, his name tag proclaims him to be a Tom, holds tight on to her arm. "look missy there is obviously something wrong, either you are on something and need medical help or else you are in trouble and need protection, either way I can help." Taking her hand he gives it a reassuring squeeze, "sorry about the search thing, but I couldnt pass it up you look so damn fine." Gives her a very sexy grin and peers over his mirror shades to undress her with his beautiful blue eyes.

Cordillia looked up at the cop. Whatever had griped him had also fled with the appearance of the creature.

She turned to him and said,"Listen, there is a very bad 'thing' out there that is going to kill us all after putting us through alot of pain and my boyfriend is out cold."

"I cant do this on my own. I need you to help me get him to a safe place and then we have to come up with a plan to kill that thing."

She looked up at him pleadingly almost willing him to believe all she had to say. Thier lived depended on it.

He has always been an outcast to society. No one understands him.THen he goes to the carnival and is enlisted by the evil master to help round up the escaping people left...

Jace slowly shook his head and looked around, still a little bit groggy from being thrown around like a rag doll. He looked around for Cordillia and when he saw her with the police officer his eyes narrowed. He slowly got to his feet and after a few tentative steps to regain his balance, he ran his fingers over the side of his face and felt blood.

He knew that there was only one thing that he could do, or try and do even though he wasn't in that good a shape. He bent down and picked up the baseball bat and walked slowly past the cop and Cordillia, towards the door to the funhouse.

When he reached the door he looked back then walked outside, looking around as he did. When he was sure that the area was clear he walked out into the open and shouted out, "Come and get me you bastard! I am right here, so what the hell are you waiting for!"

Cordillia stopped talking to the cop and looked around. Jace was gone. "Damn," She said under her breath and raced out of the fun house.

She looked around and then heard his voice challenging whatever had attacked them. Running towards the sound of his voice, she found him standing in a clearing, bat raised and an angry look on his face.

"Oh, god," She thought,"What does he think he's doing?"

Rushing over to him, Cordillia grabbed his arm and started tugging on it, trying to pull him back to the fun house.
"Jace," She said with exaspiration in her voice,"Come on. What do you think you are doing? You are going to get yourself killed."

Jace looked at her, "Get inside. Now, you don't want to be here to see this."

He then took her hands off his arm and moved away from her, his rage slowly building. Jace walked off towards the large middle area of the carnival. Oh well, if I was going to die then I might as well see what I can do to stop this evil, Jace thought as he walked away from the funhouse, not even looking back.

Before he could enter the middle area though the thing that was now Al came out of nowhere and stood before him.
"So, you want me. I am here, now it is time that one of us dies."

Cordillia looked at Jace leave and started following him. Keeping far enough back that he could not see her. She may not be able to keep him from doing this by she was not about to abandon him either.

She stopped when she saw the 'thing' come out into the open and challenge her beloved Jace. Holding her breath, she slipped behind a tree and watched the confrontation.

He may not like it but she was going to be by his side no matter what he said.
