Coach Kline blew his whistle that signaled the end of swimming practice, taking a few measured steps back from the pool. The girls climbed up onto the deck, one by one, each observed closely in turn from behind the wide lens, mirrored sunglasses that he always wore around the pool. When Jay, the new blond transfer student from Australia climbed out, he took hold of her wet arm, preventing her from scurrying over to her bag with the rest of her peers.
"Jay, I need to speak with you privately." His voice was barely above a whisper, in a tone that would endure no disagreement. "Just grab your towel and go directly to my office, I'll meet you in there soon."
When he'd finished giving her instructions, the Coach turned to the rest of the college swim team, congratulating them on a good practice and bidding them goodnight. None of them were looking at him, though. All the eyes of the swimmers followed the new girl, envious eyes glaring daggers at her. Many had crushed on the infamous coach over the years, but most knew, or at least suspected what it meant when he peeled one off from the herd on her first day.
All of them wished it had been them.
"Great work today girls, rest up, study hard. See you all tomorrow for morning drills." Coach Kline said in his usual, loud and commanding tone. "Don't stay out too late."
After they were dismissed, several of the girls tried to get his attention once more, but he dismissed them easily. It wasn't the first time he'd had nubile coeds throw themselves at him, but none of them interested him in the slightest. It was the shy new girl, already outcast by her peers for her above average looks and superb swimming ability who interested him, intrigued him and made him wish to know her better. Deeper.
He was impatient already by the time he entered the Staff office where the young athlete was awaiting his arrival. Kline closed the door behind himself and locked it.
"I'm glad to see that you can follow instructions, sweet girl." Kline smirked, pulling the whistle up over his head slowly. "I've called you here because I'd like to know you, better than I bother to know most girls. I see potential in you. Are you willing to go the extra mile with me? Will you do whatever it takes to excel? Are you willing to wade into the deep end?"
