Eric Galvorn was running late.
The bells had sounded about a quarter of hour earlier, and yet he hadn't even shaved properly. He was running late to another lecture he had to attend to at the University, but that was the least of it. His suspenders were giving him trouble, and he hadn't eaten anything.
Oh well. I won't arrive in time to get the gates open, anyway, he though to himself. Resigned, he strode, his walking cane in hand, towards the nearest bakery. Perhaps he could still taste some delicacy in order to ease his feelings.
There weren't anyone at the small room. And there were a lot of disclaimers bolted on the meager, poor walls. Many told of debts in a couple of banks and a lot of other small, trade stabilishments. It seems that the baker was having quite some trouble to raise money. Why? he could only think about it. There was a bright red lettering on a Hypothec coverage for the small house he just stood inside.
Eric could only ring the small bell before him, awaiting for someone to awnser him. From beyond the far door towards the inner dwellings of the house, a thick, sweet smell came over to the shop. The smell of baked bread, hot loaves coming free from the hellmouth that was the lumber fireplace.
