The Dragons of Ragnos

The smile came back to his face when he heard her name. This young girl might know the name of the female rider and if she did then Alex definitely wanted to talk to her. He knew that she could help find her, at least he hoped so.

"Is she your friend or is she the Raven that I heard about in the city? If she is then I am not sure what happened to her. I did help her after what happened but I do not know where she is now. Do you remember the last time you saw her and if so do you know which way she went?"

He knew that he could easily pull his sword out and threaten this young woman or better yet awaken Selangra but he wanted to get as much as he could out of her the easy way.

"She's the Raven of Red Hook" Eris said proudly. "She helps us! If you find her again, will you bring her back? I miss her, and Devon and Riley and the rest do, too!"

The girl was thoughtful for a moment.

"The last I knew, she was in the Downs, you know, that part of Red Hook where that thing crashed through the roof and there was a fire? I think she might've been meeting someone--she's always doing that, but... No one's seen her since... Not even me."

Selangra opened her eyes slowly, hearing voices nearby. She frowned, there should not be voices, only one voice should have greeted her this morning. She did not like the fact that she had slept so soundly as to wake with voices greeting her ears.

She shook her head slowly and raised up, feeling the new energy laced through her body from the sleep she had had the night before. She walked slowly out into the bright sunshine and tilted her head to the side, blinking slowly as she saw Alex talking to a little girl.

She watched in interest and caught the tag end of the conversation. Alex was being nice to the kid to get information. Shrugging in a draconic fashion, she decided to play along.

Lumbering slowly up behind Alex, she smiled in what she hoped was a gentle fashion towards the little girl, "Who is your friend Alex?" her voice was soft and in no way threatening, in fact she took a page from her mother's voice and emulated the great former dragon.

She noticed Erin's eyes go large at the sight of her and she settled down, to appear a little smaller, "Its okay child, I won't hurt you," she smiled again, which might serve to frighten the girl more, "I am a nice dragon, I promise,"

Alex looked back at Selangra with a smile, Good dragon indeed.

He knelt down before the little girl, a smile on his face and said, "That thing. Do you know what it was or where it and her could have gone now? I don't mean to pry or anything but she was to meet me but she never showed up or anything. Do you know where she might live or where she hides at all?"

As he looked at her Alex knew just how easy it would be to just move forward and send his elbow into the side of the little girl's head, killing her instantly. But he needed information and she was the only one that had anything of interest to him. He would get it from her anyway that he could, even if that meant that he would threaten to give her to Selangra.

He could tell that Selangra liked the idea as the emotions flowed over him.

Eris dashed behind Alex. Her eyes grew wide at the impossibly large, crimson dragon before her. It swore it wouldn't hurt her and her death grip on Alex's arm relaxed slightly. The man turned to her again, then and she bit her lip as she thought over his question.

"I...I know she visits Emmy's sometimes. Emmy was always disappointed that Mirah was never one of her girls--said she could bring a nice price or something like that... Anyways, Emmy's is on Chaser's Row where all the red lanterns are lit..."

Alex had a smile on her face as soon as the girl had finished speaking. He knew that it would be easy for him to kill her here and now seeming as he had found what he was looking for but he still needed her, as much as that irked him. He turned and looked back at Selangra.

"There is no need to worry about Sela. She will not hurt you unless you give her any provocation to do so such as attacking me. But you won't do that to me, will you."

There was a smile on Alex's face when he heard a laugh come from the girl then from Selangra. He turned his head to look at her and mentally told her to behave. She made an annoyed sound in his head before she swished her tail at him, pushing him forward a bit.

"Is there any way that you could take me to see Emmy. Just in case she knows something about Mirah?"

He turned back to look at Selangra. I will be back as quickly as I can.

Eris smiled up at Alex as she took his hand.

"I'll take you!" she said, her young voice full of hope that she might see her the person she so admired again. "I'm sure Emmy can help you--I think she's known Mirah for a long time."

She led him enthusiastically back towards were she thought the road was, eager to take Alex to Chaser's Row where the brothels resided in Red Hook. Eris just knew that between this man and Emmy, maybe Mirah could be found and brought back to them once again.

He turned to looked at Selangra once again before he put on his cloak and began to walk off down the road, following the little girl. He was eager to find this new rider, using any means that he had at his disposal. As they walked towards the city he was surprised to see the amount of people that were leaving it. He knew that he should ask why but then it came to him, the green army was coming this way and everyone was either going to fight them which in itself was a fools errand or they were getting out with their lives.

An evil smile came to his face when he thought of one thing. That the people trying to escape this city were just as dead as the people that were going out to fight the army.

It was then that he entered the city and before he knew it they were in the same area that Alex had left from the day before and he looked around, trying to figure out just where they were going. He was so eager to find any trace of the female rider, Mirah that he almost didn't notice just how deserted it was.

"Where is everyone? Why have they left the city?" he asked, feigning ignorance.

"I don't know..." Eris said, as she tugged on Alex's hand to hurry him along. "Maybe Emmy can tell you?"

She led him down a road of worn cobbles and above them, red lanterns were strung out, unlit in the morning sun. Women of all sizes and colors idly hung around brothels that ranged from run down rat holes to fairly decent accomodations. It was one of the nicer ones that Eris led Alex into, and one of the women gave the young girl a wink for bringing in a potential client.

"This is Emmy's place" Eris said. "One of the girls might be able to get her for you..."

As he stood there Alex looked at the women who stood there and thought to himself how far these women had fallen. They would once have been very beautiful but now their life had taken toll on them and now they were haggard and worn from everything they had done. He stood there as they moved towards him, each trying to get his attention and thought to himself that there was no way he would touch them, that there was no way he would ever go anywhere near them. He wanted to tell them that but he knew that he needed the woman who owned them's help and for that he had to be nice, for now at least.

He looked down at Eris when she said that it was Emmy's place with a grin. He was so close to finding out things about Mirah but he needed one thing still.

"I am sorry to ask this but can you come with me. I don't want to leave you out here all alone as I can see what type of place this is. I do not want you to be snatched by someone only to find yourself working here or worse."

Eris looked crestfallen as she let go of Alex's hand.

"I... I can't go with you." she said. "There are rules... But I'll be okay out here--the women know me, they'll look after me."

The young girl bit her lip for a moment.

"If you ask for Jalah" she whispered. "She could help you see Emmy."

Alex let out a curse under his breath as the little girl told him that she couldn't come with him. He knew that he should keep her close just so that she did not run off and tell anyone about him here. He walked into the building, being overwhelmed by the smells of the place. As soon as he entered a woman who would have been beautiful in her day but was now worn out by what life had thrown at her walked into view and gave him a smile.

"Hello love. What are you here for? Have you come for a lady?"

Alex gave a grimace, glad that he was wearing the hood then pulled it down to look at the lady whose smile got even larger.

"No. I am here to see Emmy. A young girl named Eris told me to come here because she might know something about a friend of mine, a person named Mirah."

The woman's eyes widened when she heard Mirah's name and rushed off to leave Alex standing there. He did not know how long he had been standing there but it was then that he heard the woman's voice and looked up to see a beautiful woman standing there. Alex looked at her, surprised to see what she looked like especially in a place like this.

"I hear you are looking for Mirah. It is strange though as she never mentioned a person like you."

Alex looked at her with a small grin

"You know that she worked for people, did jobs for other people. Well I was her last client. She disappeared before she could bring something very important to me and I wondered where she has gone."

Emmy moved towards Alex, a slight smile on her face.

"So you were her last client? Maybe you can tell me where she has disappeared to and what it is that took her."

"I am afraid that I do not know that. All I know is that she has disappeared and I am hoping that you might know something."

Emmy appraised Alex for a moment. As far as she knew, Mirah had as little contact as possible with her clients. Certainly not enough to have led one of them here. Someone had opened their mouth far too wide...

She motioned for Alex to follow her in the back away from prying eyes.

"You must understand that Mirah Sol is a dear girl to me, almost like my own daughter... She's such a pretty girl; I never understood why she wasted her time as a theif. As for the thing that took her--and it was a thing--all I know it that it was huge and black as night. There was a rumor amongst some of her fellow thieves that she was trapped in that burning house in the Downs with it, but no one knows how she escaped, if she escaped at all."

Emmy looked at Alex for a moment.

"If you were, indeed her client, then I'm sorry for you. I fear the worst for her. I fear Mirah may be dead."

Alex stood and looked at Emmy, knowing that he was going to get nowhere with her. He had found out one thing though, the dragon that he had seen was the one that had crashed into the building near here and it was the one that he had seen during the storm. He now knew how close he had come and that he was going to hit a dead end by being here. He also knew one very important thing, he was wasting precious time just by standing here.

"Thank you dear lady. I'm afraid that she might be dead as well. I will try to find her if she isn't though and bring her back here where I know she will be safe."

He bowed with a smile on his face then turned and walked from the building to see the little girl standing there waiting for him with a smile on her face.

"I'm sorry to say this but she couldn't tell me what I needed to know. I will find your friend though."

He walked away from the building quickly, still angry about missing Mirah. He then looked down at the girl with a smile.

Sorry Aries, I'm going to speed things up a bit :rose:
I can edit later if I need to :)

<IC>
Dawn broke at the end of the world where sea met sky. Mirah and Invictus glided through the morning air as the crash of waves greeted. The black dragon dived down towards the beach, an oddly familiar place that she had only seen in her dreams.

Invictus touched down and she slid off his back. The salty breeze was cool on her face, and for a moment she stood there, amongst huge, sea carved cliffs and ancient ruins. There were bones here--monstrous bones that surrounded a crumbling mausoleum. Razor vine strove to claim what was left of the unfallen stone...

Mirah looked down at the crystal at her chest. It glowed a bright blue as she stood before the black dragon cemetary.

"The Riders were laid here..." she murmured. "and so was Talos."

OOC: Sorry I have been so scarce! I still don't have a comp!

Invictus felt proud and somewhat intimidated to be standing near the grave of the legendary Reza, few could claim such an honour. But when Mirah mentioned Talos he was sharply brought back to reality.

"Where do we begin out search Mirah?" Invictus asked quietly. Nudging Mirah with his snout.

Selangra chuckled softly as she listened to the little girl. She was actually quite adorably cute. She had an urge to lick her lips as she wondered just how tender the young child would be. She anticipated the occasional crunch of bone and marrow that would add extra flavour and she grinned to herself.

Suddenly Alex told her to be nice and she sighed inside his head. She had already gotten bored with this conversation and the constant niceties she had to keep up. She was a dragon, after all.

She kept hunkered down, making herself as small as possible so as not to startle the little girl and tried not to show her teeth all that much. Or to salivate as much as she had before.

She was mildly irritated when Alex went off on his own and decided to follow the girl back towards the city. She huffed a small puff of smoke and growled after him, pushing him with her tail, not so gently either. Just to remind him that she was still there.

She closed her eyes in annoyance when he disappeared and ignored her rumbling stomachs. She was irritated and it wouldn't do to tear open an animal and be so angry that she didn't leave enough left for her to chew. Her eyes closed, she settled down even more and felt Alex's presence in her head. She tried to 'see' what he looked like and suddenly made a startling discovery.

She could see through his eyes.

She watched in interest as he was led through the poorer part of Red Hook and as he spoke to several women. She couldn't tell what they were saying, but the waves of anger she felt coming from him was enough to tell her that he had not been satisfied by their conversation. She felt a sick twinge of pleasure at that... then banished the thought lest Alex pick up on it.

This new ability of hers was going to be interesting...

Eris ran to Alex and looked up at him excitedly as she took hold of his hand.

"When you were in with Emmy, I heard some men talking--it's just down here." she said. "They were talking about a black beast, like what crashed through the roof."

The girl made a somewhat comical shushing motion as she and Alex rounded a corner. There were, indeed, two men and one was listening with a skeptical look on his face.

"I swear to you man, It was huge and it's wings were bigger than us put together" the one said. "People said it was flyin' low over the tree tops and scarin' the hell out o' all the animals up north..."

"Yeah right--someone's been tellin' you tales...."

"No really, and the queer thing is, some said they saw someone or something ridin' on its back!"

Eris looked up at Alex.

"Do you think it's the same beast that went through the roof?"

Alex listened intently to the men's conversation. He knew that this was his only chance to get information out of this place but it was then that he looked down at the little girl beside him. He knew that if he showed his true nature then he would lose this girl in this place, a place she knew only too well. A grim smile came to his face.

"Yes, I think that it was the same one Eris."

He moved forward, still listening to the two arguing.

"I keep telling you that you saw no such thing."

The man opened his mouth to reply but before he could Alex moved forward.

"I am so sorry to interrupt but I was just wondering if you could tell me the tale?"

The man looked at Alex suspiciously, trying hard to peer up the hood of his cloak. Alex knew that he wasn't going to say a word but as soon as Alex produced a gold coin the man smiled and looked at Alex as he moved closer.

"What have you heard?"

"I heard that someone saw a large black beast flying to the north. It scared all the animals in several of the farms up there and they said that it just kept on flying towards something. I say it was the same creature that fell through the roof all those days ago, I can't remember just how many and then suddenly disappeared."

Alex smiled, "Thank you. You have been most helpful."

He turned to Eris.

"We will soon be able to find what happened to your friend Eris. If you want me to I can bring her back here safely for you."

He knew that because of the information that he had there was no need to stay in this place any longer and started to move through the streets towards the main gate. He suddenly stopped and looked at Eris.

"Do you want to see Sela again. I am sure that she would like to see you before we have to leave to find your friend."

Alex and Eris

Eris looked up at Alex with hopeful, innocent eyes.

"Will you?" she asked, "Will you bring her back? I miss her so much!"

The girl bit her lip for a moment and blushed.

"I dunno..." she whispered. "Sela's ... she's kinda scary. I should go back now. The girls probably have errands for me to run..."

Sharm.

Sharm grabbed the reece blade, just as a giant orc crashed through a bush to the left of sharm, in a blink he had sliced the hidden blade across the chest of the orc, dark green gore exploded into the night.

Sharm picked up the egg, and ran north towards the city, he knew the strange man would be ok he was sure of it. However out of the orc scouting party they had brought a small unit as well that they had picked up while tracking shram. So while a group of 15 or so orcs attacked Cris - Three moved after Sharm with murderous intent.

Cris stood his ground as Sharm cut open an orc that had flanked them. He kept his eyes on the main body of orcs, some 15 strong, as they rushed towards him.

A second roar came out of the south as Cris stood there, watching the orcs rush him. The orcs paid no heed to the roar, but they would pay heed to another, one that will come from much closer.

Cris heard the roar, and throwing his head back with arms out, he answered with his own. It was a mighty roar that rent the air; the ground shook, the trees shivered, and the orcs halted in their tracks. This was something unexpected. Never had they heard of something on two legs producing such a sound.

Cris lowered his gaze upon the startled orcs. It was a firey gaze that promised death to those whom it fell upon. The fearless orcs now had something to fear. With agnozing calmness, Cris slowly drew his sword. The blade glittered with the light of the stars above, amplifing it. It had not tasted blood for centuries, but tonight it will feast on orcs.

The blade of the sword was three feet long, and it widened at two places along the blade to be the same width as at the base, then narrowed again. These wide points formed a diamond shape in the blade. The hand guard was shaped like the outspread wings of a dragon, the handle covered with dragon hide. The pummel was entricately designed like the pointed head of a dragon, with fine jewels that burned with fire for its eyes.

With a mighty roar cry that was very human, he leapt forward with the sword, taking the orcs by surprise. Before they could react, two lay dead, one missing a head, the other everything from it's left shoulder to right hip.

The orcs responded with their own war cries, but with slightly less enthusiasm than they would normally feel given these same odds of 14 against 1. They hacked and slashed, swung and chopped, but they could not land a blow on Cris, as he spun, whirled, leapt, and attacked. He blocked and parried, dodged and countered each of the orcs attacks. In under two minutes, the orcs lay dead and bleeding.

The sword had tasted orc blood, but it had a centuries' old hunger to satisfy; it need more. Soon, it would feast upon the blood of more than orcs. It would taste the blood of all creatures foul that had amassed in the army to the south.

Cris stood there, in the middle of the dismembered orc bodies, looking north. Silent words were on his lips, words of protection for the goblin with the egg. With these words following that goblin, no blade shall find its mark on him.

Cris turned after finishing those words, and sheathed his blade. He then launched himself into the night sky with those mighty six foot wings that sprang from his back. He was headed south, towards the goblin army and the dragon whose roar he had heard.

So It Begins. . . . .

The village was peaceful, all were asleep and everyone was blissfully unaware of the danger coming. The burnt barn was a heap of ashes and building work on a new barn had been started but now was left for the evening.

A shadow blotted out the moon and a villager looked up to see a looming shape hurtling towards him. His limited life flashed before his eyes, just before the collision he heard a giant beat of wings, and a gust of air flattened him to the floor.

When he finally open his eyes he first noticed he had pissed himself, then looked up at a giant dragon face no more than a metre away from his. He tried to scream but the dragon snatched forward and bit him in two with a sickening crunch. The dragon licked its lips as the blood dribbled to the floor. Two flaming missiles lanced through the air over the beast and landed in the straw roofs of two huts. In a whoosh the flames ignited the buildings, screams streaked into the night, and the village exploded into panic.

The march of the green tide had started.

Shargnal sat astride the dragon barking orders, orc generals, and war bosses moved through the ranks keeping the momentum going. A big troll moved in from behind a group of goblins with a massive wooden club, with a mighty swing he began demolishing buildings. The destruction of the village was swift and but there was no mercy shown. A few villagers pleaded for there lives, but they were either killed outright or kept to be tortured, only a handful of men stood up to the tide but soon they too fell. Only a handful of villagers managed to escape north to spread word of a demon dragon and an army of the like never before seen.

Alex moved faster than Eris could possibly have followed and grabbed her by the arm, not enough to break it but enough to know that he was not going to let her go. He looked straight into her eyes, his entire demeanor changing.

"I am sorry that I cannot let you go little Eris. I want to but I don't know if you will tell anyone that I am looking for Mirah. I know that you won't but I cannot take the chance."

He pulled her close to him, wrapping his hand around her mouth to stop her from struggling before pulling a strip of cloth out and tying it around her hands. He pushed her out in front of him and pushed the dagger into her side.

"We are going to leave this city now and take a little walk to see Sela. If you make any sound whatsoever I will kill you where you stand. I have no qualms about killing you, do not think otherwise. You will come with me to see Sela now."

They slowly moved forward, through and out of the city, all that he wanted was to get out of here as fast as he could so that he could see Selangra, take to the sky and track down the other rider. What he wanted was to kill that rider, there was nothing else more important. The guards didn't even give him a second glance as he walked through the gates, Eris by his side and before he knew it they were on the road again, going towards where Selangra was hidden.

As soon as they were close enough he saw Selangra move forward and look at the two of them.

"I know where there have gone. We just have to wrap this up and take to the air once more. They will soon be dead."

With a smile Alex picked up the little girl and threw her to Selangra.

"Enjoy your meal."

Cris finds the goblin army

Cris had flown for an hour, when he spotted the goblin army from high above. It was a massive army, at least two miles wide and 20 miles long. In that army were not just goblins, but orcs, trolls, and all manner of foul creatures. And flying above it all, but well below Cris, was a dragon. Or at least what used to be one. It was just a skeleton now, but it flew nonetheless.

The army was nearing the end of a 30 mile long mountain pass, that was only 2 1/2 miles wide. On one side of the pass was a massive cliff that rose nearly 10,000 feet above the army. The other side was a deep gorge through which a river ran strong and swift. If Cris managed to block the pass successfully, it would take the army three weeks at least to go around.

And block it, Cris will. Holding his position high above the army out of sight, he turned his focus onto the cliff face just ahead of the army. He began to chant in that strange tongue that he somehow knew, and the ground began to shake, throwing many goblins, orcs, and trolls to the ground. The cliff face that held Cris' focus began to break apart. It then fell in a massive avalanche that blocked half the pass. The other half of the pass was rendered impassable by the violent earthquake.

Cris, satisfied that the pass was sufficently blocked, decided to get down and dirty with the army. Wrapping himself in flame, he plumeted like a meteor towards the army, just missing the skeletal dragon by a foot. He crashed into the heart of the army, vaporizing everything within a fifty-foot radius. Once the smoke cleared, all that could be seen was what appeared to be a large rock with wisps of smoke rising from it in the center of the circle of scorched ground.

Selangra watched with curiosity as Alex took care of a few goons in Red Hook and blinked, clearing the vision from her eyes. She smiled to herself, puffing small wisps of black smoke with pleasure at this new ability. She could see whatever he could see through their mutual link, and she was sure that soon he would be able to do the same thing.

She settled down, sure now that whenever she needed to check up on him, she could just see through his eyes, and so she was not as alarmed that they were so far apart. Chuckling to herself, she lowered her head onto her foreclaws and began to contemplate the evil schemes she could think of with this new ability of hers.

She wondered if she would eventually be able to hear sound....

Selangra blinked, raising to her feet as Alex returned shortly afterwards. He had not been gone long and she blinked as she saw the little girl in his grip. She smiled at him before he threw the still live human child into the air.

"Enjoy your meal."

Her neck arched and her jaws opened wide, snapping shut around the tiny morsel. The girls screams were soon cut off as Selangra took an experimental bite. She broke Eris' legs in half with her razor sharp teeth and hot blood spurted into her mouth, coating her throat with the dark red liquid. She blinked, surprised at the sweetness of it. She bite again, moving her massive jaws together and this time bit Eris in half. More warm liquid splashed inside her mouth and she was forced to swallow, there was so much of it.

The bones crunched between her teeth as she tasted the tender flesh of the little girl. She smiled, rumbling deep in her throat with pleasure at her latest meal. Swallowing the last of the child, Selangra licked around her mouth, swallowing any blood she had missed before and cleaning her teeth of small shards of bone.

She gave Alex a demonic grin, "Much better than goblin!"
