The Economy

New RETRIBUTION because the banks wronged him, based on politics or the fact that he's a shitty businessman who doesn't honor contracts and has a history of laundering Russian money???
Either way. It's an emergency? So another Presidential Proclamation... Decree?? Banks will be monitored for rejecting business based on politics. Yup... that's their business model.

No idea WHEN the poor little whinny BRAT was wronged by the banks.
NO ONE would do business with him. One bank that did, had his daughter on the board of directors.
The German banks, most likely, regret helping him.

more like the banks did their due diligence and found trump and company too high a risk given their shaky business practices and not so stellar business management - how do you bankrupt a casino? part 2 of art of the deal.

The TrumpTariff impact on individual companies is interesting.

You wouldn’t think a beer company would be impacted, but Coors is because of the very high tariff on aluminum.

Beer maker Molson Coors said it was expecting costs of between $20 million and $35 million in the second half of the year due to a tariff-driven rise in the price of aluminum delivered to the U.S. Midwest.

Tariffs on aluminum shipped into the United States were doubled to 50% in June from the previous 25% duty imposed in March.

It's not just that the US economy is growing at a healthy rate, it is also that the EU isn't growing and China is wandering to a recession. US economic growth has just been incredible during the Biden administration. As the Fed lowers rates, more rocket fuel on this amazing period of growth!
Out of curiosity, why lower interest rates?
That’s done to stimulate sluggish economies.
Hence, my question.

Well, that's a deep subject.[chuckles]

As an old MBA fella, I'll try to condense the soup a bit and give it a college try at explaining it without too much detail.

Lowering interest rates is how the Fed tries to boost a slowing economy — it makes borrowing cheaper, which encourages spending and investment.

Take housing: a $400K home at a 7% mortgage rate costs about $2,130/month. Drop the rate to 5%, and that same home costs around $1,720/month — that’s over $400 saved each month. Now factor in the Trump-era tariffs on Canadian lumber, which added roughly $14,000 to new home prices. If you can only afford the 5% rate on a $400K home, you have to look for one now that is priced at $386K instead. That’s not inflation at work — that’s Trump's tariff policy.

Now Trump wants the Fed to cut rates before the election. Problem is, the Fed doesn’t work for presidents. It’s trying to keep inflation in check, and cutting rates too soon could reignite it. They’re walking a tightrope between slowing the economy and letting prices surge again.

So yes, lower rates would help — especially with the damage from tariff policies — but calling for cuts while defending the things that caused prices to spike in the first place? That’s not leadership. That’s trying to have it both ways. Besides, the guy doesn't care about your house costs anyway; he's busy using other people's money to build a new $400m ballroom at the White House and using Whiteout on the pages of his latest book, which is promised soon.

The National Association for Business Economics condemned Trump’s dismissal of the BLS Commissioner.

Trump won’t care but it’s nice to see groups stand up for what’s right.

They said the firing “threatens the long-standing credibility of our economic data infrastructure”.

Large revisions to jobs numbers in recent years reflect not manipulation, but rather the dwindling resources afforded to statistical agencies—resources that are essential to timely, accurate measurement. To cast doubt on the integrity of these processes for political reasons risks doing lasting harm to the institutions that support American economic stability.

Initial reports are another .2% rise in inflation in July. CPI up accordingly. I can’t wait for the jump in August when tariffs take effect. But then again TACO might reverse course…. Again. The winning just keeps gaining momentum.

Why was he on the roof ?
Planning the ball room we all need so badly
200 million of Trumps money (bulllllllllshit!!)
This will balloon to what?

What’s the dimensions in feet of a 90.000 sq ft room? In ft? In yards? In football fields???

What are the dimensions of the White House?

This Trumpmonsity would reach beyond the connecting driveways to the circular drive behind OUR White House. You can’t fit it between the house and Pennsylvania Ave.

He already has a ballroom. Charge us to rent it for your next ball, your majesty.

On the other hand if Putin flys in on his millennium falcon replica? He could park it inside!

Maybe we should start in on the Trump Pyramid to house his imperial majesty’s remains??

Sir, this is the economics thread.

The jobless number just spiked -which suggests the BLS revised jobs numbers were spot on, and that the wholly competent BLS commissioner should NOT have been fired - DonOld & the MAGAt republicans are the ones who should be fired.

😳 😑 🤬

We. Told. Them. So.
