The Five

I like Samuel's weakness...especially the part about him being able to speed-read something and gain intimate knowledge about it. I guess the other volumes of information are too jumbled to keep on-hand. Skimming a book on the subject brings it all into focus.

I'm cool...when do we start?

No offense to you, but I don't like the idea of you having to read a book on typing in order to type in coding.

I'd assume this "weakness" is relegated to those tasks like "hotwiring a car" or "defusing a bomb". I don't think this is supposed to cripple the character by having him re-read english books in order to speak, or re-learn typing in order to input code. I'd also assume he doesn't need to re-read something he did earlier that day.

Also, his lifestyle would give him an innate knowledge of certian subjects. I'd imagine he could read several languages, pull up research on a computer in seconds (perhaps hack in order to read more than public access would allow), and speed-read. He may not be innately skilled in doing anything (being like any other human in that regard), but he could maintain a running database of the instructions in his head.

It would require some finessing from the GM, but this is workable. I didn't intend to have him do it all the time, just before doing something he wouldn't normally know how to do. If he were to disable a security system for example...he wouldn't need to crack a book on the subject for serveral hours, a day at the most.

I think I'll just use it to limit his "super-knowledge" so that he isn't constantly saying "I know how to do that" at every turn. If it's just the same problem in varying degrees of difficulty, then he probably will know how to do it, but if he's been skimming books on making bombs, that's pretty much his specialty for the day. This means, he can be a one-man solution for one problem, but will be nearly useless for anything different that pops up.

I think that's a pretty good balance.

I dunno if he still needs the drugs (interesting character flaw, but he's already got one unhealthy addiction...knowledge) but he's a playable character if I can keep him balanced.

What I meant was pretty much what Relmin has said. Except that the major weakness comes from having to expect what books will be needed, then lugging them all around, then reading them at the appropriate times. Also, necessary skimming time for a book of anywhere between 200-1000 pages would be only 10 minutes. Also, scratch that drug addiction. It does seem a bit excessive. Alright, I'll be starting the thread as soon as possible.

okay phew! that was scaring me for a moment. Cool, we start soon yay!!! This will definitely be interesting.

RL called for a bit there. Sorry for not being able to keep up recently. I'll do my best in the future.

Don't worry about it, Morgoth, we all have RL intrude sometimes.

I think things are starting up nicely.

That we have. Rone, just post your character's initial response. I'll post him coming into Sinmussen. Then, another post for his response to Sinmussen. Then, Mr. Nezram's appearance.

Hi, I find your story interesting....
but just like Snasu i have never ORed before. Ive roleplayed practically every game out there tho.
I see you guys have started so let me know if you still have room for more players and if you wouldnt mind another newb,
ill be reading the story in the meantime... thanks

Sure, Gothic, welcome aboard. Just post a character bio. Your char won't be in time for the meeting, probably, so if you're thinking of a Gifted, he'll probably be approached seperately.

Snasu, I need you to post waking up and getting ready and getting to Sinmussen before I can bring you into the building.

well glad to have you, Gothic Shujin, I don't think never doing ORP is fine, esp. since so far, it seems that Morgoth has it running like a Storyteller system.

I'll read it tonight. sorry, rl got out of control for awhile.

Ummm, not sure what your talking about. Marie is in the building, but let me know what you need and I'll do it. :)

I think what Morgoth means is that he wants a response from you about what you do

Catharsis 10

Hello everyone.

This is the character concept i had in mind for a gifted. Lemme know what ya think and about the weakness, Morgoth. Thanks for having me :)

Name: Catharsis "10"

Age: ? (apparent age: 22)

Height: 5'10"

Hair: Long black hair (to mid back)

Eyes: Dark brown

Build: Thin, lanky yet cutt

Power: Stealth. Cartharsis has an amazing sense of perception mixed with a sixth sense, he knows at all times when he is being watched and has refined this ability to the point of being able to walk "outside of" the sight of others. To complement this talent, Cartharsis appears to be able to utilize mostly any surroundings available to him to hide, with an inhuman precision. These abilities make him pass among others unseen even while "in plain view".

Possible weakness: Catharsis enjoys hiding, he always has...if people find him they might hurt him again... better to not be seen. Due to contantly being in shadows Catharsis' eyes are extremely sensitive to light (he wears shades) Also if he is ever "spotted" Cartharsis will "panick" and be stricken paralyzed for a few moments.

Bio: Its a cliche really... Waking up in a lab...no memory whats so ever...no answers. Thats what a young man went through, nearly two years ago. After shaking off the initial terror and confusion of not knowing what the hell was happening, he picked the lock to his cell, stole some clothes from a supply room and took off into the city that surrounded the complex. The only memories he retains arent really memories...rather violent attacks of color and image in his head. He sees a old pale man and an overweight, somber woman, whom he assumes are his parents...so he starts there...good a place as any, he thinks. Maybe if he find them they'll have answers.

One day a little girl asked him his name. He didnt know what to say...so he simply read off what was imprinted on his right arm in red; "Catharsis 10".

Just fyi, i thought it only fair that i let you know i can post fairly often but not like a trillion times a day or anything. My work doesnt really permit it. I dont know how often you post but if this is a fast paced, liquid smooth board i wouldnt wanna f it up with you waiting an hour or two for me to post.

again...lemme know. Thanks.

Rone has posted waiting for reply to my post by Morg, I left it pretty open on purpose, it should be implied that he will go to the meeting, if you need me to actully post that I shall.

Sorry, Snasu. I had meant Rone. Just must have been in a stupor at the time or something. I'll do my best to get the meeting started.

A stupor - hmmmmm... maybe I need to drink while gaming. Now it's all coming back to me. Gaming - sex - alcohol - pizza: they just belong together. :)

I'm sooooo sorry to do this in a new thread...

Here's whats going on: My grandfather's very sick and my be dying within the week. My grandmothers, while not deathly ill, ain't doing too good either.
So I'm flying to the states on Friday and won't be back in Japan and in a possition to post regularly until the 11th of March or so, depending on what happens.

I am terribly sorry to have to pull out, at least temporarily because this looks like such a cool thread. But family comes first.

If you want, you can pop into the Pillow Pit- posted a full "What's going on" in there if anyone's interested in reading it.

Thanks for your patience.
*bows*

All the best Vixandra. My thoughts and best hopes are with you. :rose:

It's fine with me, Vixandra. God knows we should all put RL over the site. We'll do our best without you, but of course, will also be eagerly awaiting your return. I hope everyone pulls through. Best of luck!
