The wind whips about his body, pushing him back as the balloon raises into the storm. The goggles protect his wide, excited eyes as he smiles happily into the rain that poured in sheets around him. His rubber lined leather suit crackled with static as it arched around the wire mesh surrounding him.

He raised a hand into the air, toting his copper coated iron staff above his head. There was a flash, then another as he eagerly watches his prey, his body shaking in anticipation before he's struck. The lightning ebbs about his body, as he forms a conduit. The pack on his back vibrates as the terminals load, and his pack charges electricity.

Moments later he fell to his knees, his suit smoking from the experience. He had enough juice for another week at least, and he laughed as he settled to cranking the balloon back to earth. The rain danced around him, and he whistled as the storm played on.

His name was Edward Lafiette. and he was a Electrochemist. He risked life and limb to gather the precious electricity to run the machines that made the world he lived in work. He'd spend his time peddling his juice, charging anything that needed it for coin to live a respectable life, and he loved every minute of it.

Edward stepped into the Hacksaw Revelry. It was a small pub on the edge of Rustwrench City, the Home of the Thinking Cog. As he stepped through the door, the patrons looked up, and waved merrily to him. No one ever disuaded a Electrochemist from their door, least they find themselves without juice on cold nights.

He went to the bar, and the gruff somber man standing behind it frowned as he stared at him," An Ah b'guessin' ye want a drink?" He them smiled, showing bad teeth.

Edward rubbed his neck," Hell Pig Iron. You know I only come to you."

The big guy pointed to a serve bot sitting in the corner, and Edward walked over to it curiously. Clockwork sat still inside the machine, and after a moment Edward found it's access point. He set his staff to it, and an arc of electricity fired from his pack down the rod and the cranking of gears could be heard.

The server clattered awkwardly to life, and began trudging around the room, getting orders and pulling empty dishes off the tables. It'd be good for another few weeks, and Edward would have a room and food for the week.

He gathers himself a beer from the bar, and settles down to listen to an old Tinker tell a tale to the drunken men around him.

" When I was a young man, younger then you guys, I worked on the Arcworld Citadel. It was the best years of my life, I tell you what. Ever watch seventy Electrochemists weld steel beams as tall as four men together? My job was to form the odds and ends that peiced together the frame.

All of this was to harness the Golem's Heart. It was a perpetual motion machine, made juice through.. whatchacallit, ion collection or som'thin. Gave the world all the juice it'd ever need, and then some.

Shut up Bob, I'm getting to the point. The citadel stopped years ago, broke down, and destroyed the whole damn Arcworld Plateau. Took out the capatol, the go'ment, and the the whole continent's juice. Th' meltdown destroyed our way of living until Govenor Aldreich set up the new order. "

Edward sat foward, and coughed," Hey, gramps, if this Golem's Heart was there all along, why hasn't anyone fished it out of the ruins of Arcworld? Why has it sat like a black mark without any rebuilding?"

The codger spat, and frowned at Edward for cutting into his tale," Th'because the ruins is protected. The security there is still alive, swarming the old city looking to keep out us good folk.

I bet though, I bet there'd be a reward... wealth beyond what one fool could ever gamble away to the one who brings the Heart to the Govenor. But, I'll ne'er see it myself. Hey, Pig Iron, another gin."

Edward sat milking his drink, as he thought of the old man's story. Wealth beyond what he could ever spend, all to crawl into a labrynth and steal a metal heart..
