So I posted this as an RP idea but it could make a fun story:

MC (any gender) lives in your typical high fantasy setting. They come across a weird crown, put it on and find out it has ascended them to be a god or goddess with all that entails. Tons of power, a literal kingdom and an afterlife to manage and a million or so followers who were waiting for their god to return with the potential for more to join

Only catch: they need to perform the duties of the realms associated with them. And two of those realms are fertility and sex. So if a penitent needs help, they gotta do the deed or help. Also, the honored dead in the afterlife are their spouses…and whenever there’s an orgy held by their priests/priestesses they are required to make an appearance.

Possible twist: MC’s form is malleable based on what a believer thinks their god should look like. So a group of humans think they are a large breasted woman, that’s what they appear as. Minotaurs think they are a hulking behemoth of a woman with massive horns, two large breasts and a set of udders? That’s the form. One sect believes they are intersex with fully functioning genitals of multiple species? Well MC is in for quite the surprise

It would allow for quite the variety of fantasies...and would require some world building. It would/could be an onrunning series.

You could have it so the species that the crown belongs to isn't human, so now the very human-shaped god is ruling a race of sentient octopuses who are kinda baffled that their god is in such a weird form. But they're very clearly their god, so you have some of the octopus priests maiming themselves to mimic the god's new form, and the god is horrified and tells them to stop.

Or, after a while, some of the race becomes suspicious that their god finally showed up looking like this, and the god has to do increasingly strange things to "prove" that they're really the god of that race. A couple of the head priests know, but they like the power they now wield over the god, because if people stop believing, the god loses power (Small Gods style), and at that point, they would be totally helpless.

Probably not what you were going for, but my mind goes to MC becoming a mountain god.
He can't physically leave the mountain, but he can control and observe things around it, most notably a couple of villages around the mountain. He can make the earth vertile to give them good harvest, control the weather, even throw rockslides and lightning bolts to defend the villages if they are under attack.

He can communicate through some means but it's rough, like trying to form words in the clouds, or using rocks on the mountain, or even trying to form words using the thunder in a storm. Of course this doesn't go smoothly at first, he tries to request 'Food' from one of the villages, however still struggling with the communications, it's not very clear and the village reads 'Blood' instead. So they send a 19 year old virgin girl up the mountain. If he sends her back, the village will think he rejected her, so she starts living with him in the mountain, of course she is happy to lose her V-card to a god... (continue the story with her helping him and eventually more women are send as 'sacrifices' that he happily accepts into his bed. Maybe even sending some of them back pregnant, causing demi-gods to be born in the village.)

The crown as a McGuffin, isn't really necessary. People gifted with godlike powers have been around in fiction for ages. The term for a person gifted with powers by a god is called an avatar. An extension of their will and power upon the earth. The word has since been adopted by a popular movie franchise. Often for the chosen one, these powers come with responsibility, like Shazam/Captain Marvel.

All you need is a god/goddess who is tired of the job and needs to delegate some of it. Leaving it to someone as random as 'whomever finds this crown', is wildly reckless and only a chaos god would do it with the purpose to create unrest. With Thor's hammer one needed to find the hammer and 'be worthy'.
