Michael Barrick had it all figured out.

At 26 years old, he was one of the youngest millionaires in the UK. A successful acting career as a teenager made him a public spectacle before disappearing from the public eye for several years in his early 20's. His return to the limelight at 24 was not as an actor, however, but a director. Now at 26 he was again considered one of the rising stars of the movie industry with two successful features under his belt, and industry insiders knew him as an incredibly persuasive businessman who never allowed the studio to compromise his vision. He led a more private life now than he had as a teenager when images of him at the beach and London nightclubs plastered the front pages of the tabloids.

Mr. Barrick had recently completed the move into a new place outside of London- a classical estate on 10 acres of wooded land. The stone house was regally appointed- fit for a king, and indeed it had housed several lords and dukes in days of yore. Mr. Barrick liked it for its conservatism. The loud, bombastic Hollywood style wasn't for him. He kept a penthouse in New York, but couldn't bear the thought of ever living in LA, so made those sometimes necessary trips as infrequently as possible.

Another amenity which made the property attractive to Mr. Barrick was the guesthouse- a regal home in its own right, attached to the main structure by an enclosed glass walkway. Mr. Barrick frequently hosted guests- actors, actresses and business associates so thought it nice that he would have a proper means of housing them now. His old London penthouse had no proper accommodations for long-term guests, so he would have to put them up at the London Ritz for their stays. The men, anyway. More often than not, the actresses he worked with wound up finding their way into their director's bed eventually.

His newest movie would be going into production before too long- a suspenseful psychological horror movie that called for a female lead. Over the course of the past few weeks, high-profile actresses from across the UK and the world had been auditioning for the role, and a "winner" had finally been chosen by his casting director. Of course, Mr. Barrick would have the final say, and would be bringing this woman to his estate for a week to work on the character. In fact, Mr. Barrick's driver would be picking her up and delivering her today.

Michael Barrick was looking forward to the coming week- a perfect opportunity to use his new guesthouse.
