The Hardest Riddle I Know

Lauren Hynde said:
That's what she thinks. :p

Carry on.

keep this up, by the end of the day her brain cells shut down, and then you've got her...LOL

Let's try this the other way around. This is a possible time-line of events:

1970 - Low falls in love
1981 - Y.Y. lends me an umbrella in Cambridge. For the only time in my life, I'm wearing a green tie.
1990 - 'Critic' visits me in Oxford and we talk about the wonderful time Y.Y. is having in the Caribbean.

Answer:
'Critic' > Low > Y.Y.

1. No person who has seen me in a green tie is to choose before Low.
- Correct. 'Critic' is the only person choosing before Low, but hasn't seen me in a green tie. The only time I ever wore one was in 1981 in Cambridge when Y.Y. came to visit.

2. If Y.Y. was not in Oxford in 1990, the first chooser never lent me an umbrella.
- Correct. Y.Y. was not in Oxford - he was off to the Caribbean that year - and 'Critic' never lent me anything. The only person to have ever lent me an umbrella was Y.Y., but that had been 9 years before.

3. If Y.Y. or 'Critic' has second choice, 'Critic' comes before the one who first fell in love.
- Correct. Low was the first to fall in love, back in 1970, but that doesn't even matter. Neither Y.Y. or 'Critic' have second choice.

Prove this is wrong.
Prove that 'Critic' > Low > Y.Y. can't be right and that Y.Y. couldn't have lent me an umbrella.

:D

Oh, you're just diing to get laid, aren't you?

I will clean the house to clear my mind from your teasing, and be back to answer this extremely simple thing to prove

“assuming . . . they contain no statement superfluous to the resolution of the order.”

Sentance three states "If Y.Y. or 'Critic' has second choice, 'Critic' comes before the one who first fell in love." Since only YY or critic has second choice, only critic can be second, and since Low can only come before the one who has seen him in a green tie, he can never come last. The only possible person who can be last is YY, so therefore the only possible order can be:

Low - Critic - YY

and why does 'Critic' have single quotes? Well, smart ass, because he is the one telling the story and he knows he lent the god damn umbrella! LOL

Abs, traitor! Changing alliances so quickly when my back is turned?

Just playing devil's advocate.

Now we're getting somewhere!

You're still wrong, because #3 only becomes superfluous for the verification, not the for the demonstration, but I'll let it slide. :D

To answer my question correctly:

'Critic' > Low > Y.Y. can't be correct, simply because there isn't enough data to prove it is one way or the other, and we know from the question that the sentences provided are sufficient and necessary to arrive to the answer.

;)

***

Let's try something else, since you can't admit that the problem with the riddle is the wordage of #2.

1970 - Y.Y. falls in love
1981 - Y.Y. lends me an umbrella during a visit to Bath.
1990 - I meet with Low in Oxford and we talk about the wonderful time Y.Y. is having in the Caribbean.
1994 - 'Critic' and I go to Dublin on Saint Patrick's Day and I wear a green tie.

Answer 1: Low > 'Critic' > Y.Y.
Answer 2: Y.Y.

1. No person who has seen me in a green tie is to choose before Low.
- Correct. No one chooses before Low.

2. If Y.Y. was not in Oxford in 1990, the first chooser never lent me an umbrella.
- Correct. Y.Y. was not in Oxford - he was off to the Caribbean that year - and Low never lent me anything. The only person to have ever lent me an umbrella was Y.Y., but that had happened 9 years before.

3. If Y.Y. or 'Critic' has second choice, 'Critic' comes before the one who first fell in love.
- Correct. 'Critic' have second choice, ahead of Y.Y., who had fallen in love back in 1970.

Can you dispute any of it?

Well, actually, honey, sweetie, sexy, :D you do it for me. You contradicted yourself up there, and thus by doing so, have inadvertantly agreed with my initial explanation to you, that NO ONE chooses before Low.

Did you read the rest? :)

It is a few minutes to game time, and I am smart enough to realize that NO ONE disputes with a Portuguese woman before a loss, unless they desire missing body parts . . . so, under these extreme circumstances, I 'concede' as your country soon will. :D :(

have i told you you are beautiful and brilliant and that you are right, and I am not wrong, yet today?

I am the clouds floating high and free.

What am I?

Good luck, keep your answers covered and raise your hand if you need anything. :D

P.S. I have more of this type if anyone is interested in trying any others.

The answer is water.

And by the way, Charley, I am not intimidate by your big, uh, uh, oh yeah, brain, yeah, that's it, brain.

Oh and please call me Mike
lol

Ok Mike, and no worries, I'm not intimidated by your big, uh, hm, big . . .

Yup, that was one of the easier ones. Here's a little harder one.

I am an ancient king born in days of yore,
And I have protected castles from the battlefield gore.
My head rests in my cousin sky,
But my feet stand in fields of rye.
What am I?

This one I'm not sure of, but I'll guess night or darkness.

mountain. And here's yet another:

Lazily wafting high into the sky,
I am the thing that catches the eagle’s eye.
Pushing him gently upward as he spirals away,
I am the part of air that likes to play.
Without me, there could be no long flight.
Without me, birds would be in a horrible plight.
I am the back upon which they can soar.
I am the warm stranger that gravity abhors.
What am I, so gentle and free?
