The rumble of the engine calmed him down. was he on the run, he felt like he was. In truth he had just had enough. his foot pressed harder on the accelerator as if the speed could somehow make it all go away faster.
the road ahead of him was long and straight stretching out into the distant horizon the sun was still high in the clear blue sky he could see an raven soaring far over head looking for road kill on the bleak landscape the raven was the only thing he had seen in miles he hadn't even passed another car.
he glanced down at the petrol gauge he hoped there would be a truck stop or something soon or even a settlement would be good. if not he would be the one feeding the raven.
with no radio out this far or no station he could find he pressed play on the cd player. he barely even heard the music as he drove onwards. he squinted as something appeared on the horizon ahead. it was only a small truck stop and it almost seemed deserted. the only vehicle he noticed was one truck was parked out the front the driver was probably inside.
he steered the Mercedes into the truck stop next to the gas pump. once he stepped out of the car he realized how truly hot it was outside the aircon had kept him cool and the wave of heat greeted him like a slap in the face. he ran his hand over his gaunt face the three day growth was prickly like his shaved head he was well aware he probably looked like a ruff criminal not the own of a Mercedes. he walked over to the gas pump and started to fill the car
