the hunt for the egyptian legend

Vincent Calorne

OOC: sorry...sorta buisy for me for awhile...

IC: As she gave me a lingering glance, i desided to build my tent. After about 10 min, i had it up, and Lava and Blore had gone threw most of the stuff that got dropped, i went over and got some dry branches, and proceded to make a fire, it was going to be cold tonight and i thought it would be nice to have a large fire going before the sun set, which would be soon. and i knew this area quiet well, i should have told her before she walked off, i had been her several times, i was one of the few that would lead people through this area.

Violet DeWinter

I entered my tent and slowly stretched, looked like it was going to be an interesting trek. I slung my bags in a heap and decided to get comfortable for the night, my drowsy mind picturing Mr. Pheonix snuggled up behind me.

Robert Phoenix

Robert sat down in the middle of his tent, weary from ride but too excited to sleep yet. As he had told DeWinter, mystery was waiting at every corner at this expedition...and Robert would not miss a good mystery for anything in the world.
DeWinter...now there was a smart woman. He had talked to her quite a lot on today's trip, and greatly admired her sharp mind, and well-formed body--
Robert blinked. Where had that come from?
Shaking such thoughts from his head, he took out an Egyptian mythology book out of his pack and opened a page at random.
This turned out to be the description of some of the more erotic rituals performed by some obscure sect who worshipped Hathor, the goddess of love.
Robert raised an eyebrow as he read some of the less decents acts described.
"Are you trying to tell me something?" he said to no-one in particular.

Ooc: Dirk, I already made the fire, in the earlier post... it's ok though, a simple mistake.

Blore piled all the seperate cargo by their appropiate camels. He seemed no reason to load the poor beasts all night. There would be time for them to loose their strength soon enough.
The fire was roarin now, a nice place, everyone sat down beside it (unless you posted earlier you were somewhere else, in any case, come and sit by the fire... I won't bite, hard...)
He grabbed up the plate of snake meat, and took a few bites. Delicious.
"Anyone else want some?"
Faces of disgust arose, Blore shrugged his shoulders.
"You guys are missing out."
Lava took a piece of meat, savoring it.
"Mmmmm, I love the spices," she sommented, finishing it up.
Blore blushed (lol, blore blushed, thats funny) "I tried some more oregano this time, and I took out the ginger. It gives it a nice kick, but it changes the flavor of the meat all together, here, everyone just take a bite, see what you think."
He divided the rest up, giving small pieces to everyone.
"Well... what do you think?"

lava

i smiled at blore when he blushed, what on earth? i embarassed him? i shrugged it off, it's just the excitment that is getting to me, only weeks away from retrieving what i have sought my whole life. i could almost feel the books in my hands, the amulet made of continuously glowing lava, that is where the plan was perfect, if all the legends were true, my family's treasures would still be located in the same spot, same tomb, same legend,............. same curse. i believe blore is the only one who has even the smallest bit of information on my ancestor. i was excited mostly by the hunt. im sure my group had heard of the legend, if all of their references are accurate, we have quite a few scholars amidst us. i kneeled down by blore, irritated a bit at the disgusted faces, "this is a gourmet meal, from now on we have dehydrated foods. or what we can find." they looked concerned, "no..." i shook my head, "don't be the least bit worried, we have food to last us well after the trip. and with a chef like blore, we should be well satisfied." i smiled at him, still handsome as ever, i shook the thought away. "now to celebrate the beginning of a great adventure, " i went to my personally packed backpack and pulled out a bottle of red wine, marked in egyptian writing, "we drink half hte bottle now, and half at the opening of the tomb. tradition. you ahve cups in your packs. " i poured everyone a small glass.

I look at the skewered snake meat a bit... well, what the heck? It's only a reptile and it'll probably taste like chicken. I had some frog legs before. This can't be too different. Besides, it smells really good... I was still hesitating over the snake meat when Lava began to talk and pulled out a bottle of classic red wine. I jump up with a sassy twist of my hips and run to my tent to grab my glass. Wine always goes to my head, but there's several of us here. I can handle a glass at least and sleep like a baby. I grin at the thought. My stomach makes itself known loud and clear as I walk back to the fire. I chuckle softly and pat my tummy.

"Alright, gimme some of that food, Blore. I am perfectly starving and it can't be worse than frog legs!" I wink at him and settle back down in my seat. Taking the plate of food gingerly, I start to munch and actually liked the smoky fire cooked meat. "Mmmmm...this is great! You're a wonderful cook, Blore." I beam a smile at him and turn towards Lava. "What will we toast to? A safe and fruitful journey? And don't you think its about time you told us a bit more about this trip? All I know is that we are heading towards an ancient burial chamber that has been lost for centuries..."

Vincent Calorne

As I ate the snake meat, it had been cooked quiet well. "blore, excelent job on this snake meat, i couldn't have done better myself" i reached back grabbing my glass, it was made up of a goldish material, on it, it had hyroglifics, i think it was true gold, i had found it in a tomb when i was digging with another friend of mine. I raised it over to get some wine "tis tradition" i said as i looked over at Lava. I was still hungry, and i had my glass of wine poored, i thought i might as well crack out a can of beans, i packed a few for special ocations, and this was one. I grabbed the pot i had brought along and put the beans in, i set it over the fire, and let it cook. "may we toast to, 'the tomb of the unknown queen, and to the curse'" i smiled a bit, i had known about the curse, i did not know what was in the tomb, but many people had said the tomb of the unknown queen has a wicked curse, i always liked to toast to that. But i looked over at Lava, she might also have a good toast in store for us.

"We shall toast to everything," Blore spoke, "To a fruitful journey, to the queen, to the lovely ladies with us tonight, to the wonderful dinner, to life to the desert, and most importantly to Lava."
Everyone seemed to accept it, clatters of glass broke the silence, and the cups soon emtpied. Blore looked at the plastic cup, nothing too fancy, but it didn't have any holes in it... yet. He washed it and put it away.
"I didn't think you would actually get the grant."
Lava stared at him, "Of course I would... American's always love those bruied treasure stories. Not only did I get the money, but I also got access to just about anywhere in Egypt."
Blore smiled, but he could see everyone else didn't know what they were talking about.
"Nvermind. I think they all have a right to know. We are risking our lives, and so far all you have talked about is treasure... tell us the story.'
"Why? Don't you know about..."
Blore interrupted her, "I know quite well about the amulet, and everything else you are looking for, but they don't."
He smiled brightly, "And I wouldn't want to deprive you of the pleasure."
Blore quickly grabbed up the rest of the plates, and started cleaning them, Lava gave him a sarcastic look, but didn't say anything. She simply stared at the fire.
"All right... " she began.

lava

I was giddy with excitement, i pulled out another bottle, corked up the treasured one, and poured myself another glass. the wine coursed through my blood. i was so incredibly happy, finally after all this time. i smiled broadly. my teeth white in contrast to my egyptian skin. "All right...Queen Sopholoti, her ancient tomb, the one we are about to explore. ABout a thousand years ago, she reigned queen of the Nile. She wanted to marry the pharoah, but he Cruelly tortured and forced her tp give up her title, because she was so in love with him, i wanted her for her land. she was buried alive. and her curse is said .......oh, no need to bother with that." i caught myself before i revealed too much. "i want to reclaim some of her things, my history. my past. i want to know reasons." "i guess this is more personal than historical..." i said to myself. "it was told to her people that she died due to poisoning. he then enslaved them all, killed the women, and took over."
i looked down. the story was so old, yet it felt so incredibly close to me..

Vincent Calorne

I had not heard that story, but the curse, i had heard many things about the curse, different curses, and ones that i could not belive do to the totally horror of what would happen. I moved a bit over to Lava, i checked my beans first, and it would still be awhile. "Lava, i had not known this is something personal to you, when did you first hear about this?" I looked at her face, she seemed to smile a bit, yet a slight sign of sadness was in her face, i wondered if i had said the wrong thing "Lava, it is ok if you do not wish to talk about it, i will drop it, but i had not known that anybody knew they were realted to a pharoh, let alone a great queen..."

Blore left the camp. He felt a bit bad about the rest of the people. They didn't know of the curse, and she hadn't told them.
"Maybe it was for the best, they wouldn't want to know," he told a camel. The camel spit on his shoe, as if to answer.
"I know, I know... but still what if the stories aren't true."
He had seen them though, people who wandered too close to where the tomb was supposedly. Their scars, missing limbs. He shuttered.
The people who actually dared to go after the tomb, were never seen again. Blore shook his head, no that wasn't true, they probably just got lost and found themselves in the Sahara.
A beetle scampered by, Blore kicked it.
He went over to his camel, checking the weapons. He didn't care so much about his other gear, but the guns were necessary, especially if...
"Now stop it. She knows what she is doing."
Silence, it was true. Lava always knew what she was doing. She would lead them into the lion's den, and take them back out safely, with Blore guarding their asses all the way.
Blore let out a sigh, he just hoped she knew what the hell she was doing.
He didn't want a single hair harmed on her beautiful body.

Backtracking

the meal was cozy, everyone around the campfire. It had been a long time since I've had snake and took a piece when offered. My hip was right next to Robert's, I could almost see his mind working on something. I wished it were more than his mind that was working and that he was working on me. I blushed slightly disguised by flickering fire light and after a cup of wine I retired to my tent.

Robert Phoenix

Robert swallowed the last piece of grilled snake, staring at the fire.
Lava's tale had triggered something in his memory.
Hadn't there been something...some obscure legend or other which he had hear or read somewhere? It had sounded familiar, and there'd also been something about an amulet, hadn't there, and...something about strange powers...
Robert shook his head. He could no remember it. It probably had nothing to do with it anyway.
He suddenly noticed that he had been so engrossed in his thoughts that he had not seen how DeWinter left. Pity. It had been quite comfortable to feel her warm body right beside him...

Stop that, you fool. This is not what you came here for.

Robert wished he could forget that book about the cult of Hathor...

i love you?????????

i smiled at vincent, his eyes. so haunting. the way he talked to me. "the curse...it is just your normal curse." i said lieing to him. i didn't want to lie. but i felt i needed to. i wouldn't lie about anything else. ever. but this....was completely different. "mysterious disappearances. but no known person has ever really been there. everyone just knows a friend's cousin or something. lies. that is all it is." i said meekly. i muttered something in egyptian. at loss for words and just getting frustrations out, he looked at me with amusement. i realized he understood every word i said. "pardon me for my rudeness. " i gulped down the last of my wine, savoring the sweet lightheadedness of the moment. i opened my eyes only to find him staring at me. more like analyzing. "you may want to try to get some sleep...i'm going to just stand watch tonight."

(this is your cue to do whatever. you can even stay with her...and i don't know who im talking to...)

"It's best if everyone goes to sleep," Blore nodded, making the fire a mere fraction of what it used to be. He wasn't going to let it go out, but he didn't want to attract anyone nearby.
"I am keeping watch," Lava walked over to him, sitting down. Blore shrugged his shoulders, keeping his eye on the fire.
"You starting to like that one guy, aren't you?"
He couldn't tell by the poor quality of light, but he thought she blushed.
"Come on Blore, you know me. Business before pleasure."
"Yes," he said, "But this is both, and I know how you think. Don't forget..." he let a finger slip over the large scar over her thigh.
"I know, I know. Why do you..."
Blore reached over to his own thigh, "Because you didn't interpret the map correctly."
"It wasn't my fault. It was a hawk sitting on a perch, you know as well as I do that means many different words."
"Yes, but you didn't have to..."
She cut him off, "I don't want to talk about it."
Blore looked out to the desert. The night's horizon glinted beautifully over the sand. He couldn't help but stare.
"All right. I am sorry, if I had the map I would have gone the same way."
"Thats all I wanted you to say."
"Look," he turned back, she was close to him. He could smell her, smell everything about her. She was delicious, she was beautiful. He couldn't help it, he puckered his lips tenderly, waiting for a kiss.
"What?" she asked, putting another log on the fire, and them moving back to her seat. Blore straightened himself out, trying not to show her what had just happened. That was embarassing.
"You... you put on a piece of Oak, it will burn for hours. I want to save the long burning wood for when we get there."
She gave him one of those I-know-that-wasn't-what-you-were-up-to looks, but she didn't ask questions.
Blore felt grateful for small miracles.

I nodded to her as she walked away, i thought i would stay up for awhile longer. I took my beans off and started to eat them, nobody else seemed to want any, so i ate heartily. I finished them off in a couple minutes, and i walked over to where i could see the stars, i laid back and looked up, they were so bright, i loved to get out of the city so i could just see them...so many...so beautiful...i sighed in relaxation.

lava

(guys, add your own twists, i am afraid you are getting bored, and pooh, wonderfull post...)

i saw him, i almost kissed him too. i still loved him, but damned be myself if i told him that. i pretended it didn't happen. i always screwed things over for myself. i walked over to vincent, throwing him a blanket. "night luv. if you are going to sleep under the stars, be sure to sleep near the fire." i smiled and returned to blore. i pulled out my book , the one with the map. and began to study the well worn pages that i had studied thousands upon thousands of times, i could recite the words. from the beginning of the thousand paged, jewel-laden book to the end of it's dusty musty pages. i ran a thumb over the spot labeled "itihpos" sophiti backwards...i felt someone's body heat looking over my shoudler, i quickly closed the book...

i snuggled down for night my dreams haunted by visions of horrible painful deaths. I awoke in middle of night unable to sleep anymore I wrapped myself up in a blanket and wandered out to a good vantage point. I gazed at stars, I had never put much faith into dream interpretation but right now the night seemed ominous. I was so intent on my own thoughts I failed to hear the sounds of boots crunching on the ground behind me. When a hand was placed on my shoulder I almost screamed. It was Robert, and I was glad for the company.
"you couldn't sleep either? It's like some tiny insect buzzing about my head warning me of something I can't quite recall."

Robert Phoenix

Robert smiled slightly.
"I never went to bed, to be honnest. Seems I got lost in my thoughts. Sorry I scared you...I was a little frightened myself when I suddenly saw you standing there."
Phoenix sat down beside the fire again. DeWinter did the same.
"It's strange, though...I also feel like I should recal something, but quite know what. All I remember is that there was some kind of ludicrous legends, probably translated so often that its contents wsas changed, and mingled with several other tales and prophecies...but I can't remember what it actually said." He smiled again, a little ruefully. "I wish I had your photographic memory now, Miss DeWinter...uh, or may I call you Violet?"

"Please, call me Violet," I softly say staring into flames. "I've spent my entire life trying to decipher what is real and what has been subverted. Picking apart the truth is nearly futile when dealing with folk lore and such." I pause and move closer to him, "you'll remember it when it's needed I'm sure. Photographic memory only works if I've read the right things. I've read so many tales of curses and horror it's hard to tell them apart. Especially when you deal with common themes. It's mainly unique ones that stick in your mind."

"But that's just it," Robert said thoughtfully. "There was something pretty unique about that legend. But..what was it? Something to do with...supernatural powers...well, you get that often enough of course, but...there was something special about it--"
Robert's voice trailed off. For some obscure reason, that book about the Cult of Hathor kept coming to his mind. And that was not exactly the kind of thing you should think about when discussing archeology with a collegue. Especially a woman, and of such beauty as well...
Robert shook his head abruptly--which brought him staring into Violet's eyes. Unfortunately, at exatly the same moment he rembered a rather graphic and detailed description of one of the Cult's rituals.
Robert could only pray that Violet would not notice his blush in the darkness...

Blore looked over her shoulder, "That one again?"
She leaned, and stared at him, "Waht do you want?"
He said nothing, moving back to his seat. Blore shifted the fire around, trying to keep more light for her. He didn't know what, but he was.
"Why don't you just admit..."
She stopped him, "Why don't you just shut up about it?"
Blore looked at her, "admit you are scared about this. You don't know what will happen out the..."
"Nothing will happen, why are you so convinced something will happen? We are going to an ancient to omb to dig up some treasure, and then are going back home. I don't see any danger in any of that."
Blore opened his mouth to defend himself, but didn't. A woman is as delicate as a flower, and as deadly as nightshade. A man knew which was which.
Blore reached inside his pack, and threw a package at her.
"I saved this from last time."
She opened it up, and the scroll looked up at her. Neffertiti's lost scroll, the one they almost risked their lives for, was right in front of her.
"You went back for it?"
Blore shrugged his shoulders, "It wasn't nothing much."
She hugged it to her chest, "I can't believe it. It was in that pit. How did you survive all of those scorpions?"
Blore looked at the fire, "I... I," she would throw a fit if he told her he didn't do anything, that hundreds of scorpions had crawled overhis body as he lowered himself into the pit, " I took a torch. Most of them didn't even come close enough to me."
There was a glint of something in her eye, but he couldn't exactly tell what it was. She opened it up, "this is just what I need."
Blore covered the scars on his right arm, and continued to move the logs in the fire.

Violet DeWinter

There was something in his eyes, he felt so warm. She chided herself for thinking of such things on what was supposed to be a proffesional trip. "So what are you currently reading?" she asked trying to continue the conversation, not wanting to be alone again. There was something about being alone. In every curse it was when somone got lost or went off by themselves that they had 'accident' making the cause that much more mysterious. Then there were always the cases of selfish person sabotaging group after treasure was unearthed. yet somehow even the survivor met a untimely and painful death. Shivers ran down her spine and unconsciously she rested her head on his shoulder.
