Having just survived an entire area power blackout for several hours . I would just like to say , it's a premium time to play pirates. Everyone knows pirates didn't have electricity and they rock. That was our diversion , I stuck to it and it worked. Next time it's going to be Australian Ninja's of stealth.

Bless the Libertine Wing , mobile phones, maglite torches, gas stoves & chunky candles as well.

It's started a bit over an hour before dusk. There was time to acclimatise. I'm not scared of the dark so that helps too Grace. More likely to freak out from boredom than anything else. Playing pirates resolved that rather quickly. Plan B involved communal bed time , big fluffy doona , Black Adder via iPod and travel speakers ( battery operated ) . I was only mins from implementing Plan B when the power came back on. I felt cheated .......lol.

LOL I come from a rural area of NZ and we were always prepared for the power to go out - candles, torches, small gas cooker. We were without electricity for 12 hours once, it was freezing cold. We fired up the woodburner and used that and the gas cooker for hot drinks and food. We made toast over the coals and had baked beans for dinner

The kids had torches by their beds, I always had one by my chair in the living room so if the lights went out we didn't trip over the cat

My son thinks flashlights are fun. I can't keep a flashlight around the house for more than . . . 12 hours? By then he's either run the batteries completely down or dismantled them. I won't light candles with him around cause he has no fear of fire. By this time last year he'd been burned badly enough to need doctors care three times, and one of those was a first degree burn. Sometimes if the lights go out, and after he's in bed, I'll light a candle or two.

Beyond that, I am afraid of the dark. *bruck bruck*

Although, once when K was drilling, the lights went out. They were out till 10 pm. My neighbors let me borrow a flashlight, and I played a game of tag with the kids. The goal was to catch the light from the flashlight. I got to hold the flashlight, though, and everytime they'd jump on the spot I'd move it. They loved it.

I'll definately look into the playschool ones. Although if anyone can break something it's D. I found him under my dining room table, yesterday, with a screw driver, drying to dig a hole through my carpet.
