She has a wonderful boyfriend, and amazing friends...

But I'm her best friend, and she's my best friend...

It just... *sigh*

You can help a person without physically being there. Quite often a sympathetic ear is as helpful (and sometimes more) than anything you can physically do. Use the phone and the internet to be there for her, you'll find your niche.

It finally hit me today-

My mom has breast cancer. She starts her chemo in just over a week. She will lose her hair 7-10 days after she starts. She will be sick, she will have night sweats, she will puke, and moan and writhe in pain... and I won't be there to help her.

This is so much harder than I thought it would be....

I just wanted to tell you how very sorry I am to hear about your mom. I think that it's very normal to have a kind of delayed reaction when hearing scary news, like a parent being sick, so it makes sense to me that it took a little bit of time before the reality of the news hit you.

I can only imagine how you must feel, and I wish there was something that I could say that would make you feel better, but I know there isn't. All I can offer you are my thoughts and prayers for your mom and also for added strength for you to help her through this difficult time.

You may feel like there isn't much you can do to help your mom, but you can be there to support her through the chemo process and her road to remission. Even if you can't be there in person, just letting her know that you're thinking of her with phone calls, cards, and prayers can go a long way. Something else that can help is laughter. It's a very powerful healer so maybe sending your mom some funny DVD's to watch or humorous books and even sharing jokes with her would be a way to reach out.

Anyway, I just wanted to tell you again how very sorry I am to hear about your mom. I'll be looking for the post where you tell us that your mom is in remission. Keep the faith......there is always hope. :rose:

I never tell anyone to call me anything. If someone chooses to out of respect, that is fine by me. Any given person should decide what their preferred method aof respectful address will be. Why? Because there are no external qualifiers extent in my life. I'm not a knight, or a doctor, or some other positions that entitles me to some specific form of address. So why should I force a given term (outside of a role-play scene, of course, but that is a caveat for that scene and all parties will have agreed beforehand).

I agree. If a sub starts to address me as "Sir" I usually correct her and tell her that I am not her Dom and it isn't required. I know alot of subs are trained to give ANY Dom that sort of respect but I think it is more an exercise in exerting control more than anything. Most subs will respect anyone they encounter and that's all I really require - respect your fellow man.

I had a conversation w/ one sub where I had to point out that just because I labeled myself a Dom, I didn't "suddenly" endowed with special powers or anything. Alot of HNGs know that subs are trained to mind and ask questions later (if at all) and take advantage of that.

I just got home from a 10am [vanilla] coffee date. The funny thing is, I suspect by the time we'd finished our drinks, he was thinking I was "beneath" him, but I walked to my car thinking "Dude, I am so outta your league."

(ahem)

Yah for the Mouse!
If he only knew what he had missed out on.

LOL - too funny, CM. And the sad part is, he'll probably never know how far out of his league he was. Or maybe that's just self-preservation. If he realized, he might just give up and become a priest and end up in even worse trouble.

Bummer, he was kind of a dud, then? As I am not presently dating, my use for vanilla men is limited to getting my flirt on only.

I'm hungry....

Would you like me to cook you some lunch, Sir? I bow humbly in your presence, as I understand that your status as Dom endows you with super powers.

*cough* BULLSHIT

Whaaat? Which part is bullshit? The "not presently dating"? Or the "only use for vanilla men is getting my flirt on"? Go ahead, spit it out, and I will clear it up, big bad Dommy Dom you!

Some people never learned how to listen and understand others. Instead, they look for opportunities to score points as if they're in a juried debate, listen for perceived affirmations of self-perceptions, and generally just wait on the next chance to warm the air around them by speaking.

Cab fare to a vanilla coffee date: $6.00.
Venti sized mocha fruitillicious macchiato coffeeimpersnatum: $3.85
Recognition that you've now culled one more vanilla bean from the crop: priceless.

Look, just because our date last week didn't go so well...!

I'm seeing s&m everywhere lately. There's a game on adultswim's website called Viva Caligula where you go around torturing people, singletail included! When you win you get to go to an orgy!

And an auto shop by my house has a sign out front that says, "hiring lube tech." :D I doubt they want my application.

I have another coffee date this evening with someone off CollarMe... we've been emailing back and for a little while. It'd be nice if it goes well, but I'm holding to my new "it's just coffee" / no expectations rule.

(If nothing else we'll have a more intillectual conversation than I had this morning; tonight's coffee is with a gentleman who has 3 Masters degrees and all but the dissertaion on his PhD. LOL)

Good luck and be careful....I talked with someone who told me they had 2 Master's Degrees only to find out they actually didn't have them, though had begun studies several times and dropped out each time convinced they didn't really need to jump through the hoops to get them....all very fine in my books as it doesn't overly impress me for someone to have a degree (some who do can be downright boring and stuck in their views), but why claim to have them if you profess you don't need to go to the bother of getting them?

Catalina :catroar:

If someone would consent to bore a hole though my temples, I think I'd be a lot more comfortable.

I know. :)

It's just coffee; in a place I picked out (where I'm a semi-regular). I've not even given the guy my phone #. We're talking. There's one or two things that kind of make me raise an eyebrow, which is why we're just talking, and I want to see his body language.

You are so good about how to handle these things!

Over educated people tend to be a bore in my experience. Hopefully he is cool and the coffee will be great!

Uh huh. ;)

Shhhh......there's people in here. I thought that we'd agreed to keep this little thing to ourselves?
