The Isolated Blurt Thread XXXVII: You're Welcome, Fuckers

was well worth all the cooking yesterday :) just the 5 of us around the table but that was enough: a roof over our heads, good food on the table, and people we love to share it with.

the only casualty was the fab garlic mashed potatoes... they weren't quite hot enough so I put them in the microwave to finish heating... and promptly forgot all about them till we'd all finished eating
Oh my mom was famous for that.

She also forgot a present or 12 at Christmas and found them at 4th of July saying, "I knew I forgot one."

I made a phenomenal clam chowder tonight. I ate 2 giant bowls! I also dont believe in substituting its real ingredients. It's has to be as authentic as I can possibly make. Unfortunately, my guts and lactose dont get along. Wonder if this will be as bad as the colonoscapy prep night? I really dont care, it was delicious!

If you make it with pure cream ( read the label) there is no lactose!

It was turkey (Cornish Hens actually) for two this year due to the freakin’ weather. Travel plans to the old hometown where the kids still live was a total no go. I thought about risking it, but online images from the area of pile-ups involving semis dispelled that notion. And another blast of wintry weather is/was guaranteed for tomorrow. along the entire route we normally take, so…

“Oh there’s no place like home for the holidays…”

(It was still very nice. and way more casual. And I was actually able to focus on the Packers - Lions game without demands from the kids & grandkids to go outside and throw the ol’ pigskin around in the freezing cold midway through the game - small blessings 👍)

I

I ate half a plate of food and took home leftovers. It was delish. Highlights, turkey and green bean cassarole but the mashed potatoes and gravy were the bomb too.
For the first time, we ordered our turkey from Popeyes. It was tasty. Outstanding meal over all. I'm sorry about your mom passing as she did. I have that exam in two weeks. Much rather talk about YOUR bottom than mine. 😉

It was awful. I was the one who drove her to her procedure. I felt guilty for years. It's unreal watching your folks die.

I certainly hope you don't carry that guilt any longer. I would imagine that to be the last thing your late mother would want for you. The older we get the more frequently we come face to face with these issues.

I fell asleep early with a cat on my lap. Now I'm awake early on a Sunday morning wondering if the snow will melt before I care enough to shovel it.
