The Last Daughter of Krypton - IC

Lex gave Misty a pointed look, clearing his throught before turning away. "I don't think you should be asking me that, Misty..." Lex thought before turning back to look at her.

The way Lex avoided the question had the young girls interest peaked she just had to know what was going on with Lex. "Look at me Lex and don't be afraid you don't have to hide anything from me. I'm a big girl I can take it."

"Not like you can hide anything from me anyway." she mumbled under her breath.

"Can you?" Lex asked, raising a brow as he looked into her eyes.
For the next few seconds, it was a contest of wills as Lex purposefully ran through the memories of some of his ex lovers, Gigi the pampered blond, Diana, best descriped as a black widow, and Silvia, reserved and sweet as pie in the light of day, but when the lights went out...

Misty just looked away. Her face beat red. "ALEXANDER LUTHOR!"
Misty has to take a couple minutes to compose herself. "Lex you haven't really done all those things have you. I haven't even had my first kiss yet." Misty looked away again she couldn't believe the things going on in Lex's head.

"I'd rather not talk about my past... Experiences Misty. What happened just now... Its extraordinary! Do you realize the power you have? What you could do with it? Its amasing! I don't blame you for trying to hide it, but trust me, your secrets safe, I won't tell anyone, I promise." Lex said as he leaned forward, reaching out to touch Misty's hand.

"Lex what are you talking about I don't have any powers. What would make you think i did?" Misty was now fearful that she had screwed up somewhere. She looked at Lex with fear in her eyes.

"Lex why don't we get that cappuccino now that you were telling me about."
Misty looked around the room trying to divert Lex's attention away from her. She noticed that Johnny Cash looking boy and smiled in his direction.

"Misty, I know you can read my thoughts, why does it scare you? Its a gift, think of all the things you could do with it?" Lex urged one last time before relenting with a sigh. He waved the waitress over and ordered two of the most expensive item on the menu for them. "Nothing but the best, right." Lex commented as the waitress went off.

"Lex I am scared. It just started this morning right after I met Kara. Then everything happened with Daddy. Lex I just want my life back to normal. I just want to be a normal teenage girl enjoying her first day of high school. I don't want any of this. Reading people's minds is fun and all but whats gonna happen when more people find out. As you can see I'm not very good at hiding it. Lex don't let anyone do anything to me PLEASE."

Bruce waited in the Gym. Kids were piling in. Both girls and boys. There were two teachers, so he didn't know if it was coed or not. But he noticed a certain blonde haired girl walking in.

Kara.

Dodgeball. The next thing that hit his ears. Great. And there were both the gorilla's from earlier in the hallway. But some good news came from the teacher,

Boys vs Girls.

As everyone started, Bruce grabbed a ball from the floor. He noticed Kara, with a ball as well. He smiled. She smiled. At the same time, they lifted the ball above their heads. Kara let go first.

Bruce was knocked to the floor. The ball hit him square in the chest, and sent him flying. Catching his breath, Bruce got up, to see people laughing at him, and Kara, looking as scared as ever. Her face buried in her hands. Bruce got up.

I tripped. Bruce lied. He stopped for a moment, waiting on the side, trying to figure out what the hell just happened to him.

The class had been split up into two teams: boys and girls. Kara was one of the younger girls in the class, and as such most people figured she'd be an easy push over.

"Aw man, but the guys always win." a dark haired girl complained as she got up from the bleachers. The coaches simply shrugged their shoulders.

"Try to prove them wrong this time." he encouraged. Kara walked silently over and picked up one of the red balls. She bounced it up and down a bit before taking a firm hold of it. She had learned to control her strength but she desperately wanted to prove herself to her classmates. This seemed like the perfect chance to do that. She saw Bruce again and smiled as he picked up a ball himself.

'Great. I have to play against him.' she thought to herself, raising the ball up as he did. Just as the whistle was blown Kara had let her ball fly, the red object turning into a blur as it whizzed across the court and struck Bruce squarely in the chest. He had been knocked down to the floor, dropping his ball. Kara looked stunned, a look of horror covering her face.

'Oh no. I over did it' she thought to herself. Luckily Bruce seemed to be ok, though a little winded as he stood up.

"Bruce I'm so sorry." she called out. The class had erupted in laughter at the event, but quickly resumed back into normal play. Kara had to focus really hard not to injure anyone, keeping a check on both her speed and strength as she made her way into the final rounds of play.

Third period was gym. I noticed Bruce and the blonde were both in the same class, so at least there was someone besides jocks and their groupies in here. Besides, I usually had fun in gym.
"I know what you're all thinking. First day of gym, all running laps, right? Well today I figured we'd all warm up with a game of dodgeball."

Well this could be fun.

Guys vs. Girls. except for Bruce being taken out in the first salvo we were doing pretty well. With my enhanced abilities the balls seemed to be coming in slow motion, and soon it was down to a handfull of kids. I saw the blonde from history was still in too.
Bouncing a red ball in my hands, I decided it was time I introduced myself. I send a shot whizzing at her. Lets see what happens.

The class had slowly whittled down to just a handful of students. Kara could easily duck, dodge, and deflect the whizzing balls easily with her own red ball. More students were knocked out as the clock ticked on. Out of the corner of her eye she saw a ball speeding towards her, moving much faster than the others. She barely had time to react at all. Clutching her own ball tightly she deflected it straight up into the air, sending it crashing into one of the air ducts high above them.

A look of 'oh shit' came across her face, much like the one she wore after knocking Bruce out. The teacher blew her whistle, ending the game for a short while.

"I'm so sorry. I don't... it just went up and..." Kara hit the coach with a barrage of apologies and explanations, but she was told to just go sit down. She felt a little embarrassed by the whole affair, thinking that her own actions ruined the fun for everyone else.

DAMN! I barely saw her move she reacted so fast! The ball went straight up & dented a air duct above her. After that the coach blew the whistle, ending the game.
I made my way over to the blonde, who was still looking distraught & apologizing to the coach. She waved her off and I walked up behind her& tapped her on the shoulder.
" Hi, my name is Kyle. Sorry about that last shot, guess I got caught up and threw it a bit hard. No damage done, and it was a very good save"
Damn she has the clearest blue eyes!

Bruce noticed that Kyle was in the same class too. Bruce also noticed something about his agility, and Kara's speed and strength. Very odd.

The final whistle blew. Kyle had walked up to Kara, as did Bruce.

Hey, Kyle, nice game. And Kara, wow. Bruce said. He didn't know what to say.

Kara, I know that we just met and all, but I was wondering what you were doing after school. I need to talk to you. Bruce said, trying not to come on too strong. He didn't mean it in a date kind of way, but he really wanted to talk with the Kansas farm girl.

"You don't have to be scared Misty, I can help you... You say this all started, just this morning? Maybe this Kara has something to do with it?" Lex suggested. "Maybe I should meet her..." Lex thought before fixing Misty in with a strong look. "Listen to me, you're going to have to be strong, guarded, you have a great gift, but with this gift comes great responsibility, do you understand?"

"Okay Uncle Ben I get the point." Misty said with a giggle.

"Look Lex I don't think it was Kara she was just a new person I met. But that Erin girl was the first person's thoughts i heard. I don't know what caused it nor do I care but reading people's minds isn't right I don't think. I mean they have a right to privacy and yet I can just walk right in and find out anything i want with a little probing as long as they are thinking about it." Thats scary no one can hide anything they are thinking about from me."

Misty shifts in her seat crossing her legs. "Lex please don't let me ever become like those girls in your thoughts by the way, and the waitress is wearing a red thong and thinks your cute."

Kara sighed as the teacher told her not to worry about it... but inside she knew that it was definitely her fault. Jonathan had warned her to control her strength... and Kara thought she had. It was just an instant reaction that got out of hand. She turned around as someone tapped her on the shoulder from behind.

"Hi, my name is Kyle. Sorry about that last shot, guess I got caught up and threw it a bit hard. No damage done, and it was a very good save"

"I guess. But... I ruined everything. I just saw the ball coming at me and I put mine up and I never meant to ruin things like that. I feel really terrible." she said unhappily, her eyes shifting off to look at Bruce as he came walking up to her as well. Despite her professing to have ruined everything most of the other students seemed to be enjoying themselves. Glancing around at them made Kara feel a little better... but it was still an awkward situation.

"Sorry about earlier, Bruce. I didn't mean to hit you that hard." she apologized, moving to sit down on the bleacher behind her. But Bruce seemed to not be bothered by it... or at least didn't show that he was.

"After school? Nothing. I was going to catch the bus back home and help my dad out on the farm. Why?" she asked.

"Uncle Ben has nothing on me..." Lex said with a smirk. "Tony Stark, maybe..."

"Are you sure Kara wasn't some sort of trigger? What was she thinking about?" Lex asked before Misty expressed her concern over people's privacy. "Hmm, that may not nessisarily be true, all it takes is a bit of training..." Lex said as he put up the shield of thoughts that he had used before, stocks and bonds and the like.

It was Lex's turn to blush as Misty told him what the waitress was wearing. "You're a well bred young lady, Misty, I don't think you could ever end up like them..." Lex said as the waitress brought them their drinks.

Misty acted like she didn't get the second comic book reference after all she wouldn't want anyone to know she used to be a comic book geek.

"Kara or Erin? I've never been able to read Kara's mind not that i've tried yet Lex. I've got to concentrate on them to read their minds and Erin was making me mad when i read her mind."

"You're a well bred young lady, Misty, I don't think you could ever end up like them..."
Misty just blushed and giggled at the compliment from lex "Thanks Lex your really sweet."

Ok then. Can I meet you at the Talon, like, right after school? I can get Alfred to pick you up, if you would like. Bruce said as he stood in the middle of the gymnasium.

The class got back in lines, going at Dodgeball again. Bruce kept his eye on Kara this time, not just trying to stay away from her mad arm, but to make sure she stayed cool, not getting embarrassed again, and doing the same thing she did earlier.

Bruce's schedule for the rest of the day was simple. After P.E., he had lunch, in which he got to sit next to Kara and Kyle. It wasn't as bad as he thought it would be. They talked about everything from Kara's history, to Kyle's, and to Bruce's Corporation story. Bruce left out his parents from his story, but, he didn't think it neccessary.

...

Bruce didn't have a last period. So, instead, he headed down to the Talon. He told Alfred to wait at the school, and pick up Kara afterwards. He waited, seeing Lex and Misty. He didn't bother to interupt them, so he just ordered a coffee with chocolate. It was almost time for Kara to arrive. Bruce decided to wait outside for her and Alfred.

Outside, Bruce saw the two gorillas from class, being followed by three more bone-headed looking people. 'Great', Bruce thought, 'this is going to be fun.'.

Hey guys, look who it is. Smallville's next "Scarecrow". One of them said. They all laughed as they came up to Bruce. So, Mr. Wayne. You think you're all that just because you happen to be rich huh? He added. Well, we think that someone as great and famous as you, should be introduced to our customs here. He finished as the others surrounded him.

From behind him, a shot to the head, knocking him down to his knees. More blows came to him as he tried to fight back, striking two of them in the chest, and another in the ribs.

But he couldn't take them all. One shot to the face, and the darkness overwhelmed him, fading to black...

The jocks picked him up, and loaded him into a blue truck, without anyone really noticing, amazingly. They drove off towards the corn fields outside of town. Stripping him to his boxers, painting a red "S" on his chest.

They pulled into the field labeled: "Kents".

"Just stating the obvious." Lex replied.

"What was this Erin doing to make you so mad Misty?" Lex asked, trying to get a bead on what might have caused the young woman to suddenly manifest her powers. "Maybe she had something to do with your gift?"

"What was this Erin doing to make you so mad Misty? Maybe she had something to do with your gift?"

Misty looks at Lex for a minute. "You and those damn stocks I'm gonna tune you out from now on Lex, Anyways she made a comment about how i talk to much and that what i care about isn't all that important. I know she is just a troubled girl but at the time It angered me she didn't even know me. Lex I'm a good intelligent young girl so what if I care about a few superficial things like clothing hair and makeup. Though now it doesn't seem all that important with my dad and all. Hey Lex isn't that Bruce getting thrown in that vehicle out there?"

The rest of the day went pretty well. I kept myself in check during P.E., and the class ended pretty soon. I then went to my algebra class, then lunch where I got to know Bruce and Kara a little better. I had met the Kents before, but I did not know they had a daughter. I kept my past pretty close to my chest. Very few people in town knew that I was to inherit co-ownership of a multi-billion dollar compant in five years, and most people asumed my last name was Matthews, not Greystone. And NOBODY but Bekka, Gram & Gramps knew about my abilities! It would be nice to talk to someone who was in the same boat as me... sorta. Bruce had lost his parents too, and he was also inheriting a company. I think I'll show up at the Talon myself & see if I can get a chance to talk to Bruce some more. Hopefully Kara shows up too. She's a nice girl. Nieve, but very nice.

Lex chuckled as Misty realized that he was blocking her from his mind by reciting stocks and bonds. "No hard feelings, I hope." He said as he sipped his drink. "You take care of yourself, perhaps this Erin girl is jealous of that?" Lex offered as Misty pointed out the truck that just peeled away from the front of the Talon.

"Is it?" He asked, as he pushed back from the table. "Perhaps he could use our help?" Lex asked, extending a hand out to Misty.

Misty took Lex's hand gladly. "Yeah we should help after all he did try to help me today. This day just won't quit surprising me will it." as she follows Lex out the door.
