The Last Daughter of Krypton OOC

actually, I feel the same way. Maybe it's because Jor-El is Kal-El's father and no matter how we spin it, in our hearts that hasn't changed.

In "The Last Days of Krypton," Jor-El and Zor-El are both brilliant as can be, and though they get along quite well, their philosophical and social methodologies are vastly different.

Perhaps in "Last Daughter," these divergent styles caused them to occasionally grate upon one another, and argue and fight from that standpoint, rather than being moral opposites?

Russian naming systems have what's referred to as a "patronymic." Which is to say, children are named for their fathers. In Russian and similar languages, this father's name takes the form of the child's middle name. To use a relatively familiar example to most of you, "Piotr Nikolaievitch Rasputin" is so named because his father's name was "Nikolai."

It seems like Krypton has a similar tendency to name with a patronymic, though for some reason this only applies to daughters. Take "Kara Zor-El," for instance. Kal-El has just his first name and his House name, but Kara has her name and her father's full name.

For a long time, it seemed to me like when a Kryptonian woman married, they discarded this patronymic, and indeed, any last name at all. "Lara Lor-Van" was only ever addressed simply as "Lara" after she married Jor-El, at least so far as I could tell. I was delighted, however, when in one of the Season Seven episodes of "Smallville," Kara refers to Lara as "Lara-El."

This actually kind of made me punch the sky a little. Because it solved a little mystery.

Unmarried women retain their patronymic until such time as they wed, and they then take the House name of their husband. And, sure, it does seem a little bit patriarchal (Hippolyta would not approve, and would insist that any husband of hers take her House name, I'm sure) but at the same time? I respect their culture enough that I can roll with that punch.

To make a long story short, Raya Ro-Zan hasn't really considered herself a member of The House of Zan for awhile now and I bet it's already occured to her to wonder when she's going to get to start calling herself Raya-Sen.

(I'm just saying.)

That has a nice ring to it.....

Maybe Var-Sen needs to step it up a notch.

After all, he is madly in love with her.

I took the liberty of introducing a new, minor character, since both of mine are about to take extended breaks.

The character, whom you may or may not recognize at first, can be withdrawn should anyone have an issue.

Oh, that is AWESOME.

See that? That right there? I did not see that coming.

I wondered at first if you weren't creating a new secret identity for J'onn...

...but you're playing it straight?

Huh.

Yeah...I have an affinity for ultimately strong superheroes..

Besides, I thought it would be a nice crossover.

And give Chloe a helluva time trying to figure this one out.

And, of course, I almost forgot to mention that this particular superhero has always been my second favorite (the Man of Steel being my first).

Something about being a Thunder God just kicks a bit of major universal ass.

Don Blake is the Earthbound alter-ego of the Son of Odin.

The Wielder of Mjolnir.

The God of Thunder.

The Mighty Thor.

:::cue reallly bad-ass music::::

Cross the Rainbow Bridge of Asgard,
Where the booming heavens roar,
You'll behold in breathless wonder
The God Of Thunder, Mighty Thor!

And I sit here thumbing through a very well-worn copy of "I, Whom The Gods Would Destroy" and thinking to myself why the hell I didn't post this guy sooner?!

Just got back from taking Lex Luthor Jr. (long story involving a 7 year old, some scissors & alone time) to see Bolt

frikin hilarious!!!!!!

worth the price of tickets & popcorn

I thought Thor was Marvel???

oh well, I'm tired & my brain is stuck in reverse right now

Teeeechnically Thor is Norse. And mythology is public domain.

There have been versions of Thor in DC continuity. For instance, he and other Norse gods were a big part of "Sandman" for awhile. Odin really really wanted the key to Hell, y'know?

Also, in standard continuity, Big Blue and The Amazon Princess once spent a thousand years in a time-suspended subdimension helping a version of Thor fight off the forces of Ragnarok. And no, Big Blue didn't cheat on Lois with Diana once during all that time, which, damn he's a good man.

(That's like Bruce Willis not sleeping with Jessica Alba in "Sin City." Guys that good don't exist, which makes me love them all the more.)

Anyway. Jack Kirby's version of Thor is wholly Marvel, but Kirby has other gods running 'round DC, why can't he have this one?

It's very iconoclastic and idiosyncratic, but I for one want to keep Amen around so I think the rules can be bent a little. But then, I eh'n't th' one in charge...

Dude. I pumped my fist a bit at the reference. I am still holding my breath on the go ahead to bring Beast Boy in. Cause that... that would make my day.

My only issue with it is that Thor would so screw up the power base of the thread so badly it would become the favored son of Odin instead of The Last Daughter of Krypton. One really shouldn't overshadow the main aspect of the story should we?
