Paul closed the car trunk and kissed his wife goodbye. "Now don't miss that flight," he joked, "I've got so much planned for the weekend, I won't be able to come back and pick you up until at least tomorrow."
Truth was, he had very little going on. He was looking forward to some quiet time around the house and sleeping for 8 straight hours without their new son waking them up to be fed. But he didn't want her to know that.
Paul kissed his son, and then his wife one last time "I'll miss you," he smiled at her. "Give your mom my best and I will see you Monday afternoon."
And like that they were off... through the terminal doors and in the security line.
Paul took a deep breath, smiled and got back in the car, feeling the thrill of being on his own time. He cranked the radio up, put on his sun glasses and left the departure loop of the airport.
He had barely made it to the freeway before he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. Assuming it was his wife calling to tell him that she forgot a toy or the diaper bag, he turned down the radio and pushed the answer button on his blue-tooth ear piece.
But instead of hearing his wife on the other end as he expected...
