Other than seeing some friends, working the door, and discussing what jobs we'll be in charge of for a hotel event...not really. We kinda don't make plans....we just go "Ooo! Shiny! Lets play on it!" lol

Yayyy shiny! Well, I hope you have fun. :rose: Sorry, kind of finishing up stuff.

Looking for someone to start an srp thread with a steady conversation back and forth pm me please if your interested the girl I started one with hasn't responded in awhile

In that case you may want to inspect the heating elements in the water heater.
If they didn't have a good softener and filter they could be caked with sediment.h
Also I don't know if you live out in the sticks a bit, but if you do you will want to pick up a box of mothballs for the yard. but you probably know that already.

Well, today was productive. I got the water turned on and flowing. Got the water heater running. I checked and the water was actually getting warm. I didn't leave it on until it got completely hot as I had other things to do....

Like tear down the framework of an old deck. Most of the wood can be reused when I have my chicken coop built eventually. Either that or framework for a greenhouse. So I've been stacking it in a safe place. I still have some of the deck to tear down tomorrow. It's hard work!!!! I'm so sore already, and I know I'll barely be able to move tomorrow.

I also took inventory of all the light bulbs that were out, and one ceiling fan that needed new globes and some replacement screws. I went to Lowes and got all the new light bulbs, plus a couple pull chain extenders for the really tall ceiling fans. I got new globes for one ceiling fan light, and then went back to the house and put all that stuff in. So all my lights work except for the outside porch lights. (Someone shot one at some point before I bought the place.)

I think I'll have one toilet tank insides things that I'll have to replace, but I've done that before. It's not to hard when you follow the directions that come with the kit.

Raven, what are the mothballs for?

Milady,

I hope you're taking pictures for a "Before" and "After" and if you're not, you should!

Hmm, nope. But my sister took some pictures of the sunset through the trees from my upper deck. I think she might have some pictures of the kitchen, and maybe of the pink room we painted. I'll see if she does and have her send them to me.

Hi LCN. How was your day.

Much like yours, it sounds. I'm in the middle of demolishing and remodeling the kitchen in my 90+ year-old house, and today was another day of scraping old linoleum adhesive off the floor, and starting to pry some horrible old beadboard off the walls.

Ugh! I think flooring work would be horrendous. All that time on hands and knees, I can imagine how your back must feel. Then again, mine doesn't feel real well either right now.

*Sits behind him and begins to rub his shoulders and back.*

I'll do you and then you can do me. ;)

Good idea I always forget to do that.

Thyri (the mothballs) If you live away from the bigger cities in the south you have
the chance of snakes. If you live near water in the south you have snakes.
Snake hate the smell of mothballs they normally wont go any where near them.
So you drop mothballs about 1-3 every step around the out side of your yard.
And the same if you own a mobile home under the sides. Its an old wives tale
true, but it works. My Mom did it every where we moved. most of the places were backwoods or swamp. our neighbors had issues all the time to the point I would make $5 a hide and made about $60 to $80 a month all spring to fall.
Also by the steps in and out of the house. thats a good place for a rattler on moccasin to find you. I've caught a lot of snakes in my time by hand. I only ever stepped on two. one was on purpose. the other was by a friends step. That night I got them moth balls, no more snakes.
For a snake steps by a house provide a wind block and allow them to control the amount of sun they get.

laughs, shaking his head but leaning into the rub, just the same

Actually, most of the hard flooring demolition work is already done. Today was mostly scraping off the old adhesive which, while no fun, wasn't as bad as trying to scrape the old linoleum itself off.

That said, spending five or six hours on the floor is not particularly my idea of a good time.

Oh wow, good advice then. I don't know how many snakes I'll have there, but I know there are rattlesnakes in those hills. The water is not that large a body, just a small stream, and it's far enough away from the house that I think it's okay. I'll just have to be careful when I'm in the woods.

Yeah, at least not if you're working. :D

A good point, though if I'm not working, I don't tend to just hang out there on the bare plywood subfloor. ;)

Hi LeChatNoir throw rugs work over subfloor. you learn these things if you live at the remodel site because your homeless till the next check.
Yes I know it wont help you get the floor back in.

Yes, that would help, but I'm just trying to stay out of the kitchen as much as possible when I don't absolutely need to be in there. Fortunately, there's a whole rest of the house that's in pretty good shape.
