The Lounge's Summer Pool Party!!

Dries off with the ridiculously soft, warm towel, giving Essie a bright smile in return and then smiling just as warmly at her newest acquaintance as a drink appears before her.

That looks perfection! And no need for formality among friends, at least not in my opinion, which we are now.

She nods as if making the decision official.

Thank you, Jean, and please do make yourself comfortable.

Her glass is raised to them both and a generous sip taken.

Oh my, that is good!

Relaxing back on lounger, under the shady umbrella, feet poking off the end to get the sun on them

I let Pretty know about the pool, hopefully she'll be along some day. We need more clinky drinky challenges, Brit!

Leaning forward to include Jean in the conversation

We had a bit of a challenge amongst ourselves to submit pieces for a writing challenge that Brit organised. They got me tipsy and somehow I ended up agreeing!

Smirks at Brit

I do believe there was whipped cream and flowers involved as well...

<Raises Martini to two beautiful ladies.> Your very good health. I do love the mosaics in the pool, Ms. Britwitch. Roman?

And Essie, I should be happy to take up a writing challenge should you or Ms. Britwitch throw down the gauntlet to include me.

She giggles, taking another sip from her glass.

Tipsy? Cream? I'm sure I don't know what you mean.

A blue eye winks and another sip is taken before the glass is set down on a conveniently placed table.

And thank you, Jean. You've a good eye. When I designed this place I used a pattern I'd seen in my childhood, I grew up in York you see. History everywhere you looked and some wonderful examples of Roman design. And please, no titles. I'm just Brit.

A grin for him and then an exclamation.

But you've already found my challenge, the first to do so this month. And wonderfully undertaken too. I've not yet had time to sit and write a comment but I loved your take on the prompt.

<Inclines head towards Brit.> Thank you, Brit. And I think it is interesting that you grew up in York - a beautiful city and, as you say, one where history is alive in almost every street. I can still smell the Jorvik Viking Centre if I remember hard enough...

You are very kind about the recent challenge <blushes> but I got the impression that you and Essie were talking about a less formal, less public challenge. Perhaps I have misunderstood, in which case, my apologies.

<Leans back on lounger.> Oh, this is heavenly.

Racking brain for something smart to say about history and English towns

I've been to York. It's got a big.... train station.

Bugger

Um, I think I might just go and... yeah.

Draining glass - lovely non boozy pineapple & citrus blend - taking off sarong and padding to the wooden ladder and diving off into the crystal blue water, trying to cool off the embarrassing blush

The three of us were procrastinating about posting in the June challenge thread and we agreed we'd all post something. Deliver an attempted kick to the rears of our collective muses. And given how wonderful both Pretty and Essie's pieces were, I'd say it worked a treat!

Essie's splash draws her eyes longingly towards the ocean.

I think I may have to have a swim before long. Now that I've dried off from the rain I left behind.

Floating blissfully, not caring about not knowing stuff, just enjoying the soothing water

You should come in, you two, it's delightful in here!

Oh, to hell with it. <Removes suit, enters bathing machine, and emerges into the water wearing a fetching set of blue and white striped shorts. Swims underwater for a length or so, and emerges, shaking head like an enthusiastic Labrador puppy.>

I LOVE swimming! Thank you, Brit.

Well, that does look tempting. And I'm certainly not going to sit up here all on my lonesome!

She laughs, popping into a changing room to slip off her dress and pull on a costume. Simple, black, and strapless, she skips to the edge and after a moment of contemplation, settles on holding her nose and leaping off the edge, entering the ocean so that she lands with the largest splash possible.

Surfacing, she laughs, letting the natural swell carry her up and down.

Swimming is one of the best things there is!

Playing splashing Jean and Brit

About time you two took the plunge ;)

Doing a back somersault in the water and throwing hands up to the sky

This is the life, ain't it?!

<Swims to the side temporarily, and suns arms on the pool's edge under the shade of a banana tree.> It certainly is the life, isn't it? <Dives under again, enjoying the pressure of the water above and the shafts of sunlight dappled by the gentle wind.>

Lazily swims a little way from the pool and the decking that houses it, smooth and steady strokes cutting through the water before heading back towards land and pulling herself up and out of the sea to sit on the edge of the decking. Legs in the water and the sun on her back, flashing one of the staff a smile so that her drink ends up in her hand she sips it with a sigh of satisfaction.

Yep. This place was definitely one of my better ideas!

A pool and an ocean, and an international group of peeps

Oh, yes. This was a great idea, Brit. Oceans and pools are my "happy" places.

~Waving hello to all, both arms up at spotting Essie. Hello, hello, I'm Sidney from across the Atlantic where we're expecting a coastal hurricane just in time for July 4 weekend. But, am I concerned? No.

Pina colada in hand, the scent of Coppertone and salty ocean breezes, the laughter and quiet chatter of others, and my eyes close as I inhale deeply with contentment~

SIDNEY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Swimming over and treading water next to the new arrival

So happy to see you! Brit, Jean, this is Sidney. She's a really good writer I met a little while ago, managed to persuade her to put the laptop down and come get some sun :)

<Holds out hand with a smile.>

Delighted to make your acquaintance, Sidney. Always good to see someone nonchalantly ignoring Nature's blustering threats with the insouciance of a true lady. My name is Jean - we'll dispense with the rest, given the relaxed atmosphere Brit has created here. I'll let the others do their own introductions if they haven't already, but may I get you a drink?

Hi, Jean, it's nice to meet you.

I love this mellow atmosphere.

I'm content with my pina colada, but I'd love a big glass of ice water to keep hydrated. Thank you for the warm welcome. :)

Waves at the new face bobbing in the water

Welcome, welcome! Always thrilled to meet someone new!

Her glass is raised towards the latest arrival and then drained with a grin

Now, do I want another or do I fancy something different...hmmm, decisions decisions...

Haha, it took all of 2 minutes! I'm glad you're having some fun in the sun. This is probably the one place I can easily be lured to. ..and lure others!!!! Me, a writer? You can see why Essie retains her standing as numero uno fan. Thanks for your kind words, Essie. This pool and ocean may help inspire me.

Hi, Brit, nice to meet you. Laughs as she drains her drink in one long swallow. . .

Hops out and runs to get another drink

One of your biggest glasses of something fizzy with fruit and no booze, please, oh tall and tanned and lovely muscly barman :)

Smiling at everyone chatting and enjoying the relaxing atmosphere, feeling calm and peaceful

Given the World Cup in Brazil right now, I could go for a caipirinha. Nothing more refreshing on a hot day. Anyone else?

Oooh! Sounds very good. Count me in, please!

fetches a large white sun hat from her bag and puts it on, while she is freckled beyond belief already there's no excuse for not keeping a little of the sun off

Coming up. You weren't using this fish tank, were you?

Excellent. <Discreetly pushes gasping goldfish into swimming pool with foot, where it quickly revives.>

Say when...

Erm...

Any time now....

Um. OK. Right. Well, I'll just mix myself another. Shan't be long.
