I totally disagree with you. Sports in schol no matter it is elementary to college is important. Whether it is when you are young and kids are learning coordination and sportsmanship or in highschool where they ae learning how to rely on each other. How to dedicate themselves to something bigger than them as an individual. Sports builds self esteem. It brings communities and schools together.
You don't see 100 people in the stands at a debate tourny. The math club isn't busting out at the seams with applications.
Now Colleges is a bit different. There are thousands upon thousands of student atheletes at universities across the nation. I was one of them. Who don't make it to the pros. So are you saying they shouldn't be given the opportnity to be provided a free education or play past highschool?
Sure college atheltics generates Billuions of dollars. Sure a lot of athletes are given more then your average college student, but that is just a part of life. College athletics helped mold me to who i am today. I was a shy kid out of highschool. Texas provided me a place to grow into my own.
Being on the baseball team made me feel a part of something big. If anything If anything I feel student atheletes should get a stipend. They generate tons of money and barely get by on a day to day basis. That new library that is built on campus. Sure someone donated some money towards it but I guarantee you a lot of it was paid by athletic revenue. As is many teachers salaries and other people employed by the university.
I get what you are saying. I just disagree with the direction you are taking it.
