It's 2015. Why is there no such thing as a self-cleaning house already?

So~ yeah... (。-_-。)

Something I don't advertise much, is that I like anime/manga. I used to be teased when I was younger. I just started watching 'Say "I love you".' (My grammar is probably bad here)

If you have Hulu, I suggest looking this one up. It's too cute. (@_@) My inner nerd is showing...

You're not alone! I haven't watched much lately, but I grew up loving Astroboy, Speed Racer, and Star Blazers. When my kids were younger we probably messed with them by watching Ranma 1/2 (still a fave of mine), Project A-Ko, Cowboy BeBop, and then the kids got into their own favorites like Tenchi Muyo and Pokemon (my son's obsession for years...still plays the card and video games).

Favorite movies would include My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, Vampire Hunter D, oh hell, anything by Miyazaki!

(*^_^*) 20+ years ago I was watching Sailor Moon and completely hooked. Now there's Sailor Moon Crystal that follows the manga almost exactly. It's so nostalgic. Cowboy Bebop is still a favorite of mine, I cosplayed Faye when I was younger.

I remember watching Speed Racer, how nostalgic. Oh my... my inner nerd needs to be tucked away better.

Nope!

LOL My daughter LOVED Sailor Moon. I chuckled over the fact that all of the bad guys had gemstone names.

I had to make a Full Metal Alchemist costume one year. My daughter had to be Winry, and nearly lost my prized wrench (big jaw for the nut on my oxygen tanks). Her teacher confiscated it after the first swing.

Ah, the creator had a thing for gem stones and Greek mythology. I know way too much about Sailor Moon. No really, quiz me. :D

Lol, my costume was mostly put together by me, and my skills were lacking. I modified a suit for my bf at the time and he made a great Spike. I attempted a Sailor Juno costume, but never finished it. By the time I had the skills, I was too self conscious to go through with it. (。-_-。) I don't know what I was thinking...

According to wiki it isn't. I had to check after I learned the name. I was only familiar with Liebstöckel before. :)

Yes, I saw that too, but I've seen old Maggi advertisements from the late 19th century.
I don't think there was MSG in those kinds of products then. Things like lovage and celeriac would have been more needed then, I think.

Yeah, probably true. I always use lovage if I want a meatier flavor to my vegetarian foods and don't want to use mushrooms.

Although I have a vague memory of MSG being an old thing, from the 19th century. I don't think it was used much in Europe back then, though. But what do I know, I'm just guessing. :)

You have memories of MSG from the 19th century?
That's really you in your Av, isn't it?!? :p
I read something recently saying that MSG isn't the horrible monster it has been portrayed to be in the past few decades.

Damn, my secret's out!

I've never really understood why so many people avoid MSG, never been interested enough in that particular topic to even try to learn.

I've seen people say MSG is the root of all evil and then happily grate heaps of parmesan on top of their pasta. So ther you go, people are just weird. :rolleyes

Ignorance.
The other root of all evil :)

The fear/hatred of MSG came about when a guy correlated eating Chinese food with headaches. He attributed it to the MSG they added to the food. There's no scientific evidence for the claim, but he caused such an uproar about it. It's been continued by companies that claim they don't add MSG to their products/food and that further fuels the fear/hatred.

The truth is, MSG is a naturally occurring protein in many foods. So even if it's not specifically added, people are still consuming it. Some of what I've said here may be wrong as I am writing this from memory and haven't done any research on the subject recently.

I think some people are truly sensitive to MSG. It's not a completely protein, BTW, but classified as a non-essential amino acid (so a part of a protein). Most biochemical allergies are reactions to part- or full-proteins that the body doesn't recognize, so an antagonistic reaction isn't an unreasonable conclusion.

I don't dislike it or react negatively, but I can taste MSG-added foods as having a difference. My mom was highly sensitive to MSG, and often used me as her "taster" to be safe. She really liked a variety of Chinese dishes and would joke about local restaurants being me-certified.

MSG is older than the Romans making their favorite condiment - a kind of sun tea made out of sardines. I don't freak out over every iota, but I don't go out of my way to ignore it in large amounts. I really don't care if I feel like ass because it's all in my head - I still feel like ass. Sometimes Chinese food is worth the price, though. Only the good stuff, and that's hard enough to find here that I'm not missing much. Non MSG chinese food is either kind of lying and using MSG-esque subs, or it's crappy, the actual deal is the actual deal.

I have passion for food history, but not so much this period. But really, who cannot be fascinated if you have a love for things historical and things food.

Have you read Mark Kurlansky's Salt: A World History? I thought it was very interesting. Sent me googling for days.
