The Official Authors' Hangout Winter Holidays 2025 Support Thread

I haven't tried to write one of those yet, but I'll work up to it. I've been tackling safe topics like incest, post-traumatic stress, choral singing, and world peace (and.... coming soon with @PennyThompson.... the most daring story yet... 18th century philosophy in Loving Wives!)
Ah yes, the safe topics and categories. If you're going to get to it, I won't ask permission to use it then. I want to see where you go with it!

Your story is good. Makes me...thirsty
Damn, that is really high praise for that story. Achievement unlocked!

Or perhaps, "I Just Kant Control Myself"?
Please tell me the MMC cums on a schedule in this one - mid-afternoon every day?

This sound very cool actually.

A Marvel 1776 cum Loving Wives story perhaps?

Or perhaps, "I Just Kant Control Myself"?
You'll just have to control yourself long enough to find out - it comes out in just over a day's time! But let me say that I think that Penny's ad hominem zinger "Address the idea, not the incel" is worth the price of admission alone.

Holy cow! That is a rocket ship!

Ok so my last several stories:
https://literotica.com/s/one-night-stand-74 6.5k views in Erotic Horror since 10/3
https://literotica.com/s/dead-grass-in-the-morning 6.7 k views in Mind Control since 10/7

https://literotica.com/s/miracle-on-69th-street 3.6k views in Humor and Satire since 11/15

They are all doing well with votes and comments, I’m very happy with all of them.

And then comes:
https://literotica.com/s/home-for-holidays-2 in Taboo/Incest
4.67 stars with 672 votes 42 likes 13 comments and 27.5k views in 22 hours! Twenty two hours!

Even the anonymous comments are good!

Holy cow, what a rush!

Lol... Mine went in scifi /fantasy. After a day, it's had 1300 views and is sitting on 4.24 from 21 votes. Interestingly, there's a spread of scores. Haven't seen that before. Usually just 1 or 5.

I just put up another one. After I wrote the last one, the concept of using a song really appealed to me so the idea came to fruition. Hope to see it posted in a couple of days.

First crack at a romance as well though I'd say most of my stories have a romantic twist of sorts, I suppose.
And sent back for 'how characters talk' due to what I think was single quotes for text messages and doubles for dialogue. If that was the issue, it's odd as I have used that format on a number of stories already.

Let's see.

Resubmitted.

Mine just hit 1k and is at an acceptable 4. Guess there's a lot of other stories I'm competing with.

Submit a story, it gets sent back due to poor spelling, layout and grammer.

Read it through and agree with that, it did need tidying up.

Spend many hours making sure the spelling, layout and grammar are perfect.

Story gets sent back because they think it's Ai.
I would take that as an insult! I constantly have arguments with AI! It's so STOOPID!

"AI Write me a 750 word story on the majesty of Niagara Falls" I got back a 7,853 word story about King Charles visiting Canada.

I do AI art work, if you want a laugh look through contest entries of sites like Night Café When you make an AI picture you write a text prompt to tell the AI what to make and the site leaves that prompt as the piece title. Beginners leave it, and rarely is it close to what is produced. A beautiful tall ship on a calm sea on a sunny day is titled "Early explorers sail through the ice filled arctic under the aurora borealis."

I recently did fairly well in an AI contest with an ink-and-pen sketch of a woman reading a book on a park bench with no background. It's a nice drawing, I wish I was as talented when I did ink pen sketching in days gone by... but there are leaves on her jacket. Why the hell are there leaves on her jacket?

There are certain phrases that AI uses repeatedly because AI has no imagination, it's just a search engine. Laurel's AI detector (probably AI driven) is looking for them and you probably stumbled on one.

Put it in this morning, it will be published on the 21st. I am well impressed with the responsiveness of @Laurel et al in screening and posting the contest works. That being said, once I showed I was capable of writing consistently, my posts seemed to speed through within a couple of days so that's good, too.

Off to search the forum for a style sheet for including texts because I am not happy with the heavy handed way I corrected the texts in the text.

Hey, it’s a long story in a quiet category. It'll get there. I started reading it, but I'll be dipping in and out when I have time. Like it so far.
hey, thanks for taking a look and for pointing out the stuff about the catagory, that makes perfect sense. I totally get what you're saying about the length, thanks for the kind words too!

Hi HP, also, I just wanted to mention that the story doesn't seem to have any tags on it, or mention that it's part of the comp. I wasn't sure if this was deliberate, but it might be a factor in getting eyeballs* along with the category and length?

*digression - I can't ever mention 'eyeballs' in relation to Erotic Horror without thinking of Jack Vance's brilliant 'Liane the Wayfarer' (https://hell.pl/szymon/Baen/1635 The Eastern Front/The World Turned Upside Down/0743498747__27.htm)

"It Just Ain't Going To Happen", cowritten with @PennyThompson, is out. Because it's in Loving Wives, there is zero - zip - not a snowball's chance in hell - of it winning anything, but we're hoping that we get some good engagement alongside some expected brickbats. We'd obviously be very interested in comments from anybody with time to read it. The basic plot is that an estranged couple's precocious daughter does her utmost to get her parents back together again, using trickery, badgering, emotional blackmail, sentimental music, food associations, science and philosophy as best she can.

ohhhh, tags! I always forget. I typically do put an authors note but not this time. I'm not even sure why.

Didn't mention mine was part of the comp or ask for votes/comments, but IME those make little difference. I got the New blob yesterday, but it's actually scheduled for tomorrow.

I suspect I messed up formatting of text messages (putting a br tag in but also the next text on a new line, albeit without a space), but we shall see. Anyone who gets that far should be invested enough in the story...

There's always got to be a first, right? And I can't imagine a pairing much more likely to break that barrier.

A little bit late to the party, because this was an exceptionally challenging one to get right... but @Actingup and I just published a new collaborative story, It Just Ain't Going to Happen!

It went into Loving Wives, so we are most certainly not in contention for highest score 🤣

But I'm super proud of it, a story about loss, estrangement, and the hope of reconciliation. A precocious and slightly annoying college-age daughter tries to push her separated parents back together using trickery, music, bad weather, and her knowledge of 18th century philosophy!

edit: oops Acting already posted about it here... sorry for the double-shilling!

Great story, enjoyed it very much. Good luck overcoming the LW fans.

I think I broke that assumption of 1 review per 100 views, 1 comment per 1k.

The Velvet Ribbon has 29 comments (not including my own responses) after less than 7k views. My next highest commented story has 23 after 61k views. Win or lose this contest, I'm chalking that level of engagement up to a win. Can't imagine what it might have looked like without that odd publishing bug on day one.

Last Christmas is now live.

It's in BDSM only because it had to go somewhere, and does start with our protagonist tied to his bed and his wife being nice to him, but shouldn't be too much for non-BDSM readers.

The text messages aren't grouped like I wanted, but I think the text conversations are clear enough from the characters' different typing styles.

It'll be interesting to see what people think.

The range of comments and degree of engagement is amazing! It's not so much a question of overcoming as surfing through it all. I don't care about the haters so much when some of the comments are so extremely positive and there is such variety. Thanks for reading it. I wondered if we were making the music thing too obvious but it sounds like it was just enough to make you wonder without giving the game away!

It's up and doing well. Never really considered myself a romance category writer but, perhaps, it's an option to further explore.
I never know exactly whether I'm writing romance or not lol. I have emotional connections and meaningful relationships in my stories, but I also write pretty explicit scenes that are more than most stories in the romance category usually have, so I often decide at the last minute whether to put the story in romance or erotic couplings/some other particular category.

The stories in Romance can be all over the place in terms of how explicit the sex is. Apparently the community does not accept anal. I have never tried it. And I probably would;dn't do any group sex or gay male either. But I think anything that would be appropriate in EC would work, as long as it ends up HEA.
