There was a thread...last week maybe a bit longer...paganangel I believe posted it...regarding which was better. Star Trek vs Star Wars...lol.
I love LOTR...both the books and the films (recent)...old attempts sucked.

I didn't know there was an older attempt.. The films (especially extended versions) are awesome.. I didn't care so much for the books, found him too dry, too descriptive of some things that frankly didn't matter.. I _LOVED_ The Hobbit, it's what got me interested in reading.. I've read it more than 50 times.. LotR's didn't captivate me the same.poppy1963 said:

I'm not a huge fan of poetry to be honest.. I just attempt to write some here and there.. I have no knowledge of it, and I don't consider any of my poems to be of any poetic merit whatsoever..poppy1963 said:

There was an animated version of the LOTR trilogy and a movie attempt at The Hobbit...made for TV I want to say...Don't bother with either.
I loved the LOTR trilogy...got me through undergrad...reading and rereading and exploring the history with The Simarilion and all...I read The Hobbit AFTER the trilogy...it was good...but had less of an impact that way.

For Sci-Fi, I prefer the Stargate series, and especially enjoy the Atlantis spin off.
I read The Hobbit in the 6th grade, and it was the first book I actually enjoyed reading, and then reread for leisure.. I spent that summer at my grandma's house and read it over and over again. I think I read it at least 50 times that summer alone. So, suffice to say, I had immense expectations for LotR... but I found it more of a history lesson than an adventure.

I own the first three Potter movies (haven't read the books).. I collect fantasy movies. I do enjoy them, but not so much as the LotR movies.poppy1963 said:
