The Punishment (Closed)

He saw Erin as he got out and walked over to say hello. She asked how his day was and he looked down at her and mumbled out his response.
"Tiring... your Dad around? I need to just make sure what I'm doing is fine and... whatever."
He paused running his fingers through his hair and looked around.
"Oh.. yeah.. sorry, how was your day? and those look heavy let me get those for you."
He took her books from her and started to walk towards her home. His mama always taught him to have manners and this was apart of that. Plus a part of him wanted Erin to like him. Not think he was just some other stupid hockey player with no teeth that had pipe dreams of making the pros. He had all of his teeth and has the possibility of making it big. As long as he didn't mess up again and kept his grades up and his playing superb.

Erin felt a stab of sympathy for James. He looked exhausted. She gave him a small smile. She allowed him to take her books. "Thanks James" she said quietly. They walked towards her house and she opened it up. She asked him to put her books just on the counter.

James turned as if he were about to leave. She placed a hand on his forearm to stop him. She couldn't help but notice the muscles there.

"Hey James look... I uh... Well I wanna apologize for how I acted yesterday. I'm not usually so... Judgemental" she shrugged, blushing. "I wanna tell you that I admire the way you stood up for your friends like that. That took guts, you really coulda got in trouble. But yeah, I just wanted to, like, apologize". She gazed kinda down at the floor as she said it. It was hard for her to admit when she was wrong.

He set her books down and went to leave but she stopped him. He looked down at her hand on his arm and listened to what she said and just nodded.
"Don't worry about it. Before ya know it I'll be out of your hair and this will all be over."
James gave a weak smile as he looked around her home and then went to leave again but turned right before he stepped out the front door.
"I'm gonna go get to work. If you see your dad before I do will ya let him know I wanted to talk to him? Thanks."
He then left, changed, and went back to work on the gate. Yawning every now and then and wiping sweat from his face with his shirt.

Erin nodded. "Yeah, yeah sure" she said softly. She really did feel bad for the way she had treated him. She went up to her room to change her clothes before heading out to the barn. She saw her dad on her way out.

"Hey Daddy, James wanted to talk to you" she said and her dad nodded before heading in that direction. Erin in the meantime went out to take care of the horses.

James stood and drank some water from his bottle as he saw Erin's father approach him. They chatted for a bit making sure he was settled, everyone was treating him fine, and that his chores would be laid out for him. He needed to fix a few other fences and then get to work on the barn roof to fix a few leaks. After that was completed there would be more he was sure but for now those were his duties. James nodded and thanked the man again for all he did since there were scholarship's he had and a future career at stake over it all. They shook hands and James went back to work until supper was called. He remembered the homework he had but his brain could barely function after he ate and just passed out. Though for some reason after his head hit the pillow his last thought was on Erin. She was a sweet young girl, and he was a but curious about her.

Erin went to bed early that night and got ready for the same routine the next day. She walked out of the house at the same time that James came outside too.

"Hey James!" She called out, trying to get his attention. She didn't know what possessed her to do it but she ran over to him after sitting her books on her tailgate.

"Since we both are heading to the college did you wanna ride together?" she asked. "Save us some gas...?" She didn't know why she asked but it seemed like a nice thing to offer.
