Trump has a concept of a plan to fix that when he recaptures the canal. It's really a basic and easy fix that everyone but Trump has overlooked since the original design concept was put on paper. We don't need any stinking locks at all–just connect the two oceans and let them run together.

Eventually like, you know, water finds its own level, and then the ships can cruise both ways without the locks. Problem solved. Panama, what's left of the washout, will keep any freshwater that remains at no charge: a gratuity and token benevolent gift of the felon.

The fresh water lake used for filling the locks is ~ 85’ above sea level. To pump 52 million gallons of sea water for one ship’s passage would require ~ .8 gigawatthours of electricity. ($144,000 per ship at Panama’s rate of ~ $0.18/kwh)
