The Republicans have got what they asked for

and if that criminal and terroist hilalry wins,

you'll get your wish and what you asked for a destroyed US!!!

In my opinion what we're experiencing is the aftermath of the primary system and voting districts gerrymandering. Both are ruinous to democracy.

In the last two rounds of presidential elections the R's have had a large group of candidates, and they start off in Iowa. To win that primary, the group engages in nonstop pandering looking to appear, in effect, who is the most extreme in views that will appeal to a very small group of Iowans. And so on with the next states.

A good example is gun rights. A pretty large percentage of the nation favors some kind of stricter regulation of guns, but there is no way that as a R candidate that you're going to go into Iowa and say that. As the rhetoric grows, on this and many other issues, the R candidate ends up having accumulated a lot of pretty unpopular positions to the electorate at large.

It looks like a circus because that's exactly what it is. In 2012 it was the Tea Party influence, where Romney had to take a lot of positions that I doubt he really supported, but he wanted to win. Since then the Tea Party morphed into attacking even R members, and in the ensuing disabling mess Trump appeared for 2016.

The Dems really haven't had that problem in the 2012 and 2016 cycles because of a limited slate of candidates. That may be accidental or not, but it's been a rather closed field for them.

The gerrymandering of voting districts into pure Red and pure Blue districts is similar in its effects. Small groups of intensely partisan voters can have a huge influence in primaries for Congress, so Congressmen and women have to hew closely to the extreme views of both parties. There isn't much room anymore for statesmen, moderates or even average views. And that's too bad for America.

Exactly. A lot of good could be done simply by changing the primaries to have them more compressed and as best as possible to have states with "opposing" views at the same time.

I doubt it's accidental that the Dems have decided having 16 candidates is too damn many though.

How's that business savvy doing for Trump lately?

http://www.nbcnews.com/business/bus...as-crushed-traffic-his-hotels-casinos-n623081

Since Donald Trump announced his candidacy in June 2015, foot traffic to Trump-branded hotels, casinos and golf courses in the U.S. has been down, according to extensive data analyzed by location intelligence company Foursquare.

In July, Trump properties' share of visits fell 14 percent year over year.

Before Trump announced his presidential bid, foot traffic to his properties was steady year-over-year — and maybe even saw a small uptick. After he entered the race, his branded properties failed to get their usual summertime traffic gains. In August 2015, the share of people coming to all Trump-branded properties was down 17 percent from the year before.

Definitely,

the Republicans did ask for Trump. Their main publicly-announced legislative agenda was to "make Obama a one-term president". They stoked fears about immigrants. They actively campaigned against women's rights, equal pay, and a livable wage. They instilled people with fears about basic gun control. They demonized government, and then proved in both Houses they controlled their point about government being ineffective. Their Supreme Court appointees opened the door to dark money in our elections. They encouraged their base to be angry, buy into conspiracy theories, and oppose ANYTHING proposed by a black president.

So, is it a surprise after letting this genie out of the bottle that they cannot control it?

Oh, wait a minute, there will probably be one more conspiracy theory: it was the liberal Democrats who were behind Trump's nomination.

Everything has come back, to bite them in the arse.

Mr. HWMNBN, King of the pile of garbage.

Hear him crow! Be Afraid! Be Very Afraid!

(I am afraid of Mr. HWMNBN, and he is feeding Republican nightmares with things that are not facts.)

More crowing-

"I'm looking now at territory. People were so upset when I used the word Muslim. Oh, you can't use the word Muslim. Remember this. And I'm OK with that, because I'm talking territory instead of Muslim."

http://www.cnn.com/2016/07/24/politics/donald-trump-muslim-ban-election-2016/

Very true. The GOP has been blowing the racist dog whistle since Nixon's Southern strategy. The dogs have gone mad, are out of control and biting everyone, including their master.

Many Democrats were hoping and perhaps pushing for Trump to get the nomination. They feel strongly that Trump will fall apart in the debates.

I think it's very likely, too.

I forgot about the debates. Man! Is he going to come off as a raving lunatic there.

Some of that is because we are in a recession or heading toward one, IMO...read the papers; retail is suffering, restaurants reporting a downturn, etc. In addition, golf is on a downward trend because of the Tiger effect, even Nike stop making golf equipment. Don’t believe everything you read as black and white…..

Oppps, I said black…Disconstipated is gonna kill me for that!!

Blame Bush. Just like a broken record.

Obscene amounts of money are needed to win American elections.

Trillionaires and billionaires buy what they want.

What do they want ? More.

There is always someone that will sell out Americans, to get something for themselves.

No one is better at selling out than Republicans.

The corporations did not like the fact that women in America have options.
Republicans removed funding from Planned Parenthood, killed women's health clinics.

"In forcing doctors to “unwillingly and against their best medical judgment” give patients “a state-mandated message that is neither medically nor scientifically supported,” plaintiffs argue the law in question also violates doctors’ First Amendment rights."

The Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby, a case which seemed to present the stark question of whether many women’s bosses get to decide if they have access to birth control.

Someone else foots the bill.

Before, it was women dead in hospitals, because the Republicans gave the signal to sacrifice her life for a fetus.

Right now, the latest is a baby girl, and the mother that gave birth to her.

Later, there will be hundreds of babies with Zika.

If the Republicans get their way, their pals will be spilling banned chemicals into our drinking water.

Clean Water does not matter to a Republican that sees a way to get money for themselves.

The only people with reason to oppose the rule are polluters who threaten our clean water,” senior White House adviser Brian Deese told reporters during a conference call. He added that the rule “is based on common sense. … The status quo is rife with unsustainable confusion over what’s protected and what’s not.”

Florida Water

According to The Bradenton Times, the combination of aging sewer infrastructure and an increase in stormwater flooding with extreme rain events increases the likelihood of more spills occurring and continuing to spread these dangerous, drug-resistant bacteria in populated areas.

It is not yet known how widespread the problem may become, but with aging infrastructure and stormwater flooding persisting throughout the country it may not be long before more areas are contending with similar bugs.

Money changes everything.

Yes. That's all very well but the Democratic Party also represents the plutocrats and will also make things worse for the vast majority of the population.

So shove it, you DNC troll.
