Quinnipiac is out today with a national poll on a broad array of issues. One of the issues they polled was a 20-week limit on abortion, which has been in the spotlight between the House’s passage of the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, and Wendy Davis’ infamous filibuster and the subsequent passage of a 20-week limit in Texas.

Quinnipiac phrases the question this way:

The U.S. Supreme Court has said abortion is legal without restriction in about the first 24 weeks of pregnancy. Some states have passed laws reducing this to 20 weeks. If it has to be one or the other, would you rather have abortions legal without restriction up to 20 weeks, or up to 24 weeks?

The results? Americans say they back a 20-week limit by a 25-point margin, 55 percent to 30 percent.

And an additional 7 percent of Americans volunteered that abortion should never be legal, with just 1 percent volunteering that it should always be legal.

Now, things get super interesting when you look at the crosstabs, which show:

• Women (60 percent) are 10 points more likely to back the 20-week limit than men (50 percent).

• Hispanics back the 20-week limit by a 39-point margin, 59 percent to 20 percent.

• Young people (18-29) back the 20-week limit by a 27-point margin, 55 percent to 28 percent.

• Independents (59 percent) back the 20-week limit at nearly the same level as Republicans (62 percent).

• Democrats narrowly choose the 20-week limit, 46 percent to 44 percent.

Well then....seeing as everyone in america supports a ban on abortion the GOP shouldn't have ever had nor do they have a problem banning it along with EVERYTHING under the sun but church. Good luck with that!!

James Strom Thurmond graduated from Clemson College, today Clemson University, in 1923 with a bachelor’s degree in horticulture. He worked as a farmer and teacher in his hometown of Edgefield, S.C., before becoming his county’s school superintendent in 1929. He studied law from his father, a judge, and passed the bar in 1930. Originally a Democrat as part of the “Solid South,” Thurmond represented Edgefield in the South Carolina state Senate from 1933 until he was named as a circuit judge.

He stepped down from his position to serve in World War II. His service included fighting during the Battle of Normandy, and he became a lieutenant colonel. In 1946, he was elected governor of South Carolina. He was a staunch defender of South Carolina’s Jim Crow laws.

In defiance of the civil rights plank introduced by President Harry S. Truman into the Democratic Party, notably the desegregation of the military in 1948, Thurmond and several other southern politicians walked out of the Democratic National Convention and formed the States’ Rights Democratic Party, or “Dixiecrats.” Thurmond ran for president on that party’s ticket in 1948, winning 39 electoral votes and carrying four states. Two years later, he lost his Senate seat.

In the 1954 presidential election, his endorsement of Republican candidate Dwight D. Eisenhower over Democratic contender Adlai Stevenson resulted in the Democrats blocking him from nomination for a South Carolina Senate seat; however, Thurmond was elected as a write-in candidate. In 1964 he changed his party affiliation to Republican over a disagreement with the Democrats’ push for civil rights.

Each party uses whatever they can to get votes. It's what kind of legislation they're responsible for that matters. The Texas senate is known for its sexist behavior and in session some of the legislators apparently watch porn on their itablets because they can't wait til they get home or can't watch it at home. I would bet a few of the good ole boys watching porn on the taxpayers' dime are the ones who belong to the party claiming to represent family values. :rolleyes:
