The School of Magery

Joach looked at the man with some conviction. Had there been a slight pause at the mention of his name? Why did everyone do that? He had been introduced to hundreds of people, all of them giving a slight pause when the word Joach was uttered. Damn name, probably someone of great magic who decided to kill a town or something. Just his luck to get a bad luck name.
"A town would sound nice, thank you," he was still trying to find the man's horse. Thr frog on his shoulder said ribbit a few more times.
"Oh, will you be quiet," he marked."
"Sorry," the frog said, and then drew back.
Joach roled his eyes, he knew it would only be a matter of time, "this is my friend Clyde. Clyde is a talking frog as you can imagine, I met him one day and he decided to follow me."
Clyde was about to say something more when Joach gave him a warnful eye. He lamented.
"I suppose we had better start walking, if there is a town here, it won't be for many miles."
Joach continued walking in the direction he was going.
"Aren't you coming?"

Arha

***With the assembling of all those at the school. Everyone seemed to have an interest in the new girl. That is when things began to go wrong. Outside, the sun should have set. It stood still. It seemingly didn't even radiate anything but that moment of heat it had sent out. Then it froze, still...like a clock had stopped and took the sun with it. Someone, something, had taken the book. Cleverly...but those within the magic of the school would pay no notice, until it was too late...****

I sat encased in the bubble. THe dragon at my feet. My fae looking eyes stared blankly at the people, the lack of pupils or any sort of color except their deep hue, made it hard to tell my focus.

I trembled. "I....oh...I didn't mean...."

I stammered.

I looked at the people around me, t hey seemed angry. Then It happened, the main reason I was sent away. Things about me, not even within reach, erupted in flames.

"someone...help!"

I pleaded...no words coming from my mouth.
I looked at my hands as if they were cursed.

Fujin Quinne

I smiled at the young man. He had an honesty that was rare in these days.

"Of course I'm coming. Just give me a moment to rest."

I got up slowly and started walking with him.
"I think there is a town about two miles from here." Actually I knew there was a town there, I had spotted it before, but there was no point in giving that away.

We walked in pretty much silence for a while. I could see the young man was plucking up the courage to ask me a question. He even opened his mouth a few times, and then shut it again, looking confused.

Boriana Animagistress

Jumping slightly at the surprise of his approach, Boriana glanced towards Silen, "Please take the young man there to the healer." Suddenly, the young female student stammered out an apology as everything around them burst into flames again.

"Silen, grab the boy and gate out of here, now!", Boriana snapped at him.

Muttering the words to a fire charm, she approached the terrified girl. Kneeling down beside her, oblivious to the flames all around her, Boriana reached out a hand to Arha.

Ultimately, calming a frightened young woman wasn't so very different from calming a frightened animal. Part of Boriana's gift lay in projecting the serenity of her soul into the troubled minds of others. She focused her talents upon the task of soothing this girl.

"Child, please relax. No one here would ever blame you for your lack of control. You haven't had the chance to learn before now! You are among friends, dear; we've all gone through similar painful events tied to our magic. Remind me to tell you sometime of when I managed to burn down the entire potions classroom!"

Silen

Boriana was calming the strange girl who started the fire and all the commotion around the hallway of the school. She was shaking in a near state of hysteria, whimpering all the while. But Silen was oblivious to all the things happening around him, except the girl's eyes. They captivated him so deeply that he simply stood there and stared and stared... until a ground shaking monstrous roar which reverbrated through the hallway shook Silen out of his stupor. It was the kindred of the young man lying before him bringing Silen back into reality. He shook his head abit to clear his mind. Her eyes were so... mesmeric, even when she was in fear. Another roar tore through the hallway, a warning of a castle-disassembling inclined agitated dragon. That also drew the professor's attention to me, her eyes narrowing into dangerous slits. "Better get to work..."

Silen picked up the unconscious man and placed him over his shoulder slowly yet easily, considering the man's bigger size and Silen's small frame. With one hand to prevent the bigger man from slipping from his shoulder, he raise the other and placed his hand in front of his face, this time arm straightened and fingers spreaded outwards away from him. He kept his eyes opened and focused on to his fingers and almost immediately, a black dot formed in front of the fingers which rapidly enlarged and in three seconds, a fully formed circular portal was in place. Silen lowered his hand and walked into the gate easily, without the tension that was shown from the previous gating. "So circular portal gating is more efficient than the conventional type..."

Silen is a fast learner.

Joach shrugged his shoulders and kept up with the man. He had a long stride, much longer than his, but he didn't let it show. Joach kept up the brisk walk.
The man said he knew nothing about this forest, and then that he had seen a town not far off... Why did he lie to him? Joach didn't think the lie was on purpose, but maybe it was. Could this man be hiding something, a past around here perhaps? Or something more? Twice he wanted to ask him, maybe get around it. Talk about his family, and see if it led to anything, but he lamented. If this man was contempt with lying to him, he wouldn't stop him. Joach indeed lied about the frog, although the two were far apart from each other. Nevertheless, Joach would keep an eye out for this man, see if any other odd behavior occured.
"Nice day today," he said as an afterthought. Some light conversation seemed in order.

Arha

The woman calmed me. The dragon at my side continued to follow me, perching itself at my shoulder, it nestled it's head against mine.

I saw the man's eyes lock with mine. I looked at him and as she was leading me, I didn't take my eyes off of his.

My face expressionless...I left a trail of fire behind me, and thuds on the roof signaled the dragons attempts to find me.

"What am I?" I asked...I really really wanted to know...

Fujin Quinne

"Indeed it is," I replied. "The winds have been gentle today."

As close to an icebreaker as we could probably get. I paused, and asked him, "Are you hungry Joach? I have some food that I might be willing to share if you will join me."

We were still walking beside the stream, so we filled out gourds with water, and sat down at the bank. Clyde hopped into the water and sat on a rock contentedly.

"So tell me Joach," I asked him. "Where are you from?"

Aenur

Watching the events happen, Aenur couldnt help but cringe on the inside. What was happening to the girl was exactly what he hated.. Magic taking control. AS he tried to bottle up his feelings, he calmly walked up to the school...

Incrast slammed down a book. "Damn it! That dragon just stopped my Summon Vampire Master spell! I'll be back in a second, Louis", he said. He dissapeared, and appeared before the dragon. "Roar at this, you overgrown bastard!" he shouted, slamming his staff onto the ground. The dragon's maw suddenly snapped shut, and green cords of energy coiled eround it. The coils could only be broken if Incrast commanded it. He then teleported to where Borianna was. "What is it woman? Your request stopped a spell I've been working on for hours", he stammered off, looking at the scorched walls and then at Arha. "You did this, I suppose? Well, no problem. Once, I accidentally placed an Apocalypse Time Clock in the cattle barn. I had to pay for all the new cows", he chuckled. he raised his hands up, and the walls went back to normal, and the things that had been burned went back to their original state. "Do you need some help, dear child? I have many ways I could help", he said, casting a sour look in Borianna's direction. He did not appreciate her mistrust of him.

Silen

OOC:Gee nightray, I didnt know u can manipulate dimensions too......thot I am specialised in this field......

IC:

Silen exited the portal to the private guest room and again, had some difficulty in closing the gate. He closed his eyes to concentrate better and slowly, though steadily, the portal shrunk into a black dot and almost vanished when a muted explosion was heard, followed by a slight shockwave rippling through the building which was more than enough to snap the conduit between Silen and the portal. Silen stumbled as his head reeled suddenly, specks of darkness flashing in his vision.

He managed to remain standing with the dragon rider weighing down on him. Silen gasped in quick short breaths and steadied himself, not wanting himself to collapse and pinned down by the unconscious man in the process.

He almost couln't feel his legs just when the dragon rider stirred abit, then he harshly ordered Silen to put him down. More than happy to relieve himself of his burden, Silen dropped his supporting hand and let the man to slide off his shoulder, who rolled to the ground and stood up swiftly, and strode off to the eastern wall.

Silen was already down on his hands and knees, his head hanging. The pain subsided, but his body was getting weaker as moments passed, for the sudden breaking of the conduit left his powers opened to the realm naked and flowed out steadily. Through sheer willpower, he connected his mind back to the little black dot and closed it completely. Silen crumpled to the floor completely, but still conscious, barely. Another explosion sounded, this time deafening and close. He turned his head weakly to the source and just in time, he saw the dragon rider walked through a big burning hole in the wall, his body seemingly glowing with strange and yet somewhat familiar energy...

Silen understood what was so familiar about the aura around the fiery man when he stopped in his tracks, raised his hands high above his head and ripped the very fabric of the dimension downwards, creating a raw gate in the process. Silen widened his eyes and jerked in sudden pain. He cried out futilely in a strangled voice after the defiler who simply stalked into the gate, leaving it open.

The pain! The pain!

Silen curled into fetal position and writhed in absolute agony for some moments before he overcame his pain and clawed his way to the open wound of the world, convulsing with pain every now and then with tears streaming down his smudged contorted face. As he was making his slow and painful way to the raw gate, Silen had sense enough to send out his incohorent thought which served as warning enough to the rest of the faculty, "Defiler......defiler......stop him...pain......"

Joach took another sip of the water. It was cool as it trickled down his throat. The water must have come from a good spring not too far from here. He took another sip.
"I'm from a small orphanage about a day's ride back that way," he pointed in some general direction behind him, "I never really liked it there. So, yesterday I decided I was old enough to be out on my own. I don't know exactly what I expect to find, but I do know it's out there."
They both had questions, he realized that. Although neither of them was going to be up front about it. Joach never could be up front about anything. That's probably why he left in the middle of the night, no one to talk to, no questions to answer, just gone.
"What about you, where are you from?" He took another sip. This water was terrific.

Fujin Quinne

"That, my young friend, would take me a very long time so answer!"
I paused and took a sip. Might as well ask the question.

"Tell me young man, are you a magic user?"
"What's that got to do with it?" He replied, seeming slightly irritated.
"A lot. Don't worry, I won't hold it against you whatever your answer is."

Boriana Animagistress

"Incrast, you fool!" Boriana had been preoccupied with getting the young female mage to safety, and had not noticed Incrast's arrival. She did however notice the enraged dragon's actions!

Fearlessly, she ran over to where the dragon was thrashing about, wild-eyed with fear and anger. She reached out to the creature's mind with her own, but was rebuffed by its roiling emotions. Grimly, she decided that she had no choice but to employ some of her most powerful magick.

Gritting her teeth, and thrusting her staff in front of her, she began to chant, focusing her will on the dragon. A bolt of vermillion shot out from her staff, enveloping the creature's head. Immediately, Boriana crumpled bonelessly to the ground, and the dragon stopped thrashing about, also collapsing, unconscious.

I look in shok as my brother culapes to the grond uncuchis. My anger redubils and the wight fams that are shimering on my sword tern an ugly red and black. I look at the man in black nowing hes the cos of all uf thes. Black and red fames of anger begin to twerl in my eyes. Power begins to snap arownd me. I say in a deseptivly com vois reles my brother now. The are around me begins to rotat arownd me gaining speed.

A corner of my minde whochis in shot and horer at whot I'm doing and whot I now I'm willing to do. but that corner has now cuntrole and can only woch and wate.

I put my hand on my brothers neck and I fell a serg of energy pols in to hem I fell our bond strancthin evin more as if are minds wher merging. Then I say reles use in a vois that all most sounds like two seprit ones.

Incrast paid them no mind. He doused the flames, sweat beggining to form on his brow. When he was done, he turned to Wingdancer. He approached, looking even more terrifying than usual. His staff raised, and a second later, a huge ball of lightning was above him, slowly rotating to keep from self-destruction. He jerked with one hand and Wingdancer's sword flew in front of Incrast's feet. Incrast began to sweat harder as he teleported Louid there. "Louis, I want to show you something. This bastard thinks that he can barge in here as if he is king, have his damn brother stop a spell I'd taken years to find and hours to start, have his brother set fire to the building, and then ask me to release them. This is a strong case of bonding, and I've already found the link. It can be easily snapped, but I have no wish to do so. Unless this bastard decides to start following rules and having his damn dragon brother do the smae thing, I might just cut that link. I won't have either of them roaring about the school and destroying it on their whims", he said angrily. He pointed to Borianna, and his brow furrowed. She awoke in pain, but the dragon stayed unconscious. "Stay where you are woman! This boy needs a lesson in manners and in following rules! All my kindness to children has been swept away by this damn boy, and he will be taught a lesson. I do not wish to kill him, only to teach him something", he growled at her, when her eyes strayed to the lightning ball above his head. He held out his hand, and a green, ornamented helm popped onto it. He wished at times like these that he had a wand instead. His eyes flashed, and Wingdancer stood, held by red rpes of pure energy. Incrast manuevered himself nearby and put the helm over his head. As soon as he did, a roar sounded in Wingdancer's ears. The voices of hundreds of mages appeared, shouting and arguing and talking. But all about the same thing. They said, "Submit, submit, submit, submit to the helm's master!"

As the helm setild on to my head I felt it trying to brake my will with out thot my minde divs in to my brothers mind and power with in me sergis smashing the one that put the helm on me agenst the wall. I fantely hear the sound of bons snaping as hes body hits. the helm begins to glow white hot but it dosn't melt but nither dus it brack my will. I look at the ball of energy huvering over hes head. With a gunt of efert I erct a sheld arwond my self and my brother. I lift my hands slowly to the helm my arms feel like led but I manig to put my hands on the helm. I pul it up and of my head but I can still hear the voises saying submet but a dragon never submits and my mind is linkt to a dragon which givs me strankth. I let the helm drop to the flore and I tern to my brother egnoring the man I put both hands on hem leting enrgy flow in to hem. I feel hem sheft as he beging to wakin. I tern to the man and say you rely don't whot to start a war with the dragon clans. Whith that I tern and wolk out nowing that he could kill me but also nowing that if he did the ther would be hundreds of dragon cin her redy to levil the school.

I feel my brother stager to hes feet and he begins to folw me as he cachis up to me I frown at the muzil and put my hand on the evrgy binding hes mouth shut. I srogil with it but I git nower with it it's beond me fore now but the in the proses of try to git red of it I colaps egosted and as the anger levs the pain reterns redubild. As I fol winddancer props me up on hes neck werking me on so I don't foll. he cerys me to the woods and lasdown cerling hem self around me protektivly as he slips in to darknes hem self.

He was a bit startled by the question. No one had ever liked it when things disappeared or started moving on their own. He had been an outcast by all of the people at the orphanage, even those whom were supposed to help and encourage him didn't.
Magic in his mind had always been bad, and always will be.
"No," he said after a long pause, "I am not a magic user. I don't know anything about magic."
It was a half truth. He didn't know a thing about magic. In fact, even getting the frog to talk was a miracle. He just picked the thing up and it starting talking away. He wanted to tell the man more, but ignorance usually got in the way of feelings. Besides, this man didn't need his life story. He just wanted to make idle chit chat.
"Froggie here has always been my friend. I found him one day in the garden, and decided to keep him as a pet."
Froggie was sleeping quietly in one of his pockets. Joach was gateful for that.

Fujin Quinne

"Is that so?" I looked at him carefully.
"It seems that you have something to hide my young friend. Don't be afraid to share your past. Many have come from worst than yours. Although many are much more evil than you are."

I reached into my pocket and took out a small gold band.
"This is for you Joach." I held it out to him. He took it warily, eyeing it up suspiciously.
"Why are you giving me this? It's just a ring."

"It's not just a ring," I smiled at him, "it will enhance your magic abilities somewhat and allow you greater control over them. In the wrong hands it is very dangerous, so make sure you look after it."

"Why me?" He looked at me, puzzled and still suspicious.
"Because I can read you Joach. Even though you try to hide your true self from me, I can see it. And I know you will not abuse this power. But if you do, be warned, I will strike you down with my own hands."

er...

(sorry, I posted adn it was long, and my computer shut down, don't have the will to start all over again. I will be back on later to do it over again.)

Joach thanked the man, looking down at the ring. There was much power in the ring, at least from what the man told him. Joach didn't say anything, he didn't want to say anything. Something silence was the best answer.
He didn't want to do magic anymore, it was nice for a few laughs and things, but he needed to grow up. In the real world people worked for a living, he needed to go to work, and possibly become his own boss some day. Get his own piece of land and have children. Some of these dreams were more far fetched than others, but they all dealt along the same lines, no magic.
He pocketed the ring blindly, not even thinking of putting it on. He wasn't one to handle consequences very lightly. This man handed him a great gift of life or death, and Joach was very bad at choices.
"So," he said, trying to change the subject, "I am well rested, perhaps we should be off to that town."

Fujin Quinne

I smiled, "Of course. Let us go then."

The frog was woken, and jumped up to his usual place on Joach's shoulder.

The rest of the journey was made in silence. I could see that Joach was struggling to come to terms with what I had told him before. I wondered about my own actions. Was it the right thing to do? To give him a ring that potentially could mean his death?

But to me this was something I had to do. With magic comes great responsibility. Sooner or later, someone would find him and realise his power, and attempt to either recruit him or battle with him. Without the ring, he would die. With is, his chance of survival were at least better.

Finally we reached our destination. It was a small town, with only a few houses, but there was an inn where we could lodge.

Arha

(I am going to throw in a twist, have fun with it, Ok, here is how it goes, In Ursula's book "the Tombs of Atuan" They have this underground sort of thing, rooms that words have never been spoken in, rooms where light can never be lit, rooms of ceremonies and civilizations of long ago...so that is what I am going to have this sort of based on . THe school is there physically, but you need magic, not just any magic, to get it. The school is being destroyed. They must find some way ...maybe go to the ancients or find their secrets....to get out of this. They can go into the lower layers of the school...sort of like labyrinth...or even, if you all want, we can encounter beasts....dragons...etc....Let me all know what you want to do with this thread. It isn't jsut mine...)

****Deep within the walls of the school, it trembled. The walls began to warp and strange figures loomed in the dark shadows. Someone had opened the portal to darkness...someone had allowed the shadow's of all the mages to appear. That would be their destruction.****
(sort of like URsula la GUin?)
