The Ship Wreck

I was so happy to see Darcy alive! After Jasmin brought him to the shack, I covered him with one of Mr. Carmedy's blankets. I noticed Jasmin run from the shack down to the ship, and could hear her voice trying to speak above the thunder. Knowing that she and captain were probably trying to salvage whatever goods they could, I knew they probably needed my help more out there than having me stay with Darcy.

I give Darcy a kiss...

"I'll be back as soon as I can."

I run from the shack down to the ship. The rain makes things difficult to see, and I know I will probably not be of much help with all this, but I'm compelled to try.

I make out Jasmin among the rocks frantically attempting to salvage anything she could. I look around...not knowing really what to do first. I sense that time is running out, so I splash out to the rocks, and get Jasmin's attention. Yelling above the storm and waves, I yell to Jasmin to throw to me the things she finds, and I can drag them back up to shore along with the captian.

OOC: I am going to play the ships nurse. She is 5 foot 6 inches tall 130 pounds Long red hair and green eyes she is 25 years old 38c 24 38.

IC: She wakes up laying in the wet sand her clothing tattered from the water. All she remembers is treating a guy with a severe sunburn when the rolled. She managed to find her way out of the ship to be tossed around by the waves. She slowly gets to her feet looking around the beach. She calls out for help. "HELP!! IS ANYONE ALIVE?"

Darcy... warm safe and hungry

I look up to see a bearded man stirring something on the stove. It don't smell half bad, I think and I introduce myself, hoping he might be willing to share, as my stomach is growling like a banshee.

"I'm Darcy, the ships first mate," I anounce, trying to sound important. "And what might your name be."

He looks at me with obvious disgust, his eyes moving up and down, over my uniform. I',m thinking thats what bothers him and I quickly explain. "I just signed on to get away from the skirts chasing me back home. I say, You know wedding bells and all that. Not for me, Can love em all, but can't marry em all, right.

His contenance changes. This he understands, and I hear him mutter,"Just thought you was one of them lifers, you know ,dedicated to conquer the world. He hands me a cup with some sort of stew in it. "Thank you" I say and as I eat I begin to tell him about some of the lassies I been chasing, embelishing at times, some of the details and making a good yarn out of it.

[Edited by afternooner on 05-24-2001 at 07:48 AM]

Che listned to the first mates tales of conquest and pusuit and decided the man might be delirious.

"Look here now Mate Darcy. This tasty stew your slurpin up is in part the contribution of that sky high Amazon woman down there. You might want to run tell'em all chow's ready and..."

Just then they heard a cry of distress. Carmedy opened the
door of his shack and saw a deperate woman struggling out of the sheeting rain in their direction.

"Over here! C'mon There's a few of your shipmates made it!"

He turned to Darcy,
"Take a look Mate. Am I hallucinatin' again or is that the
sexiest nurse I ever seen bearin' down on us."

OOC: Kimberly, what name are you using?

IC: My attention is drawn by a figure attempting to walk up the beach. I stare through the driving rain, and see the ship's nurse attempting to make her way up to the shack. Jasmin has off-loaded quite a bit of stuff, and there is quite a pile on the beach. I pick up as much as I can carry, and hurry to the nurse, helping her to get to the shack.

Room for one more?

Call me Arryel...

{A figure steps out seemingly from behind one of the ragged palms unseen by all. He appears to ponder their very existence...then cocks his head to the side as if hearing a voice above him. Shining with a slight luminescence the figure walks back past the trunk of the tree and begins to fade out. Somewhat closer to the makeshift shelter, the figure reappears in the top of a tree. The sudden gain in weight causes the tree to bend slightly...it is not much but it catches the attention of one of the people below. As they look up there is a slight glow at the top of the tree and then...nothing.}

OOC: If the cast is full, this can end here, otherwise think of me as a tempestuous add-on :)

OOC: Xantham - still room, if you want to join. Not sure where you are going with this, but interesting to find out!

IC: While walking back to the shack, soaking wet and lugging stuff from the ship, my attention is caught by something in the top of a tree. It seems to be bent at a different angle than the way the winds from the storm are blowing. Suddenly, I see a light of some kind. Blinking the rain out of my eyes, I try to make it out, but it is gone.

The ship's nurse has stopped and is looking at me. I look to her, shrug my shoulders. Maybe just lightening through the trees, I think. I look up at the tree again, then back to the nurse.

"We better head for shelter, before this storm gets any worse."

As we continuing stuggling up the beach, I keep looking at the tree. Weird. Very weird. All this "outdoor" BS again.

Darcy did that hippie put some pot in the pot

Responding to che's excitement I see two figures coming toward the shack, Rubbing my eyes I discover that I'm not seeing double as the two are quite diferent. Che's right, the one dressed in a nurses uniform is certainly stacked, built like a brick shit house to be exact. and that long red hair I'd like to get tangled in that. Wonder if she's irish. The other one is Miranda, that sweet little lassie. She's carrying some boxes from the ship, bless her sweet heart She's such a tiny thing to be carryiung all that. Damn, sure wish I could help.

Jasmin Moonwalker: Falling to Earth

Jasmin risked grabbing a few tools she saw lieing around, scissors, a wrench, etc. She headed for the side of the ship, knowing how urgent it now was to get off as the sea swelled ever more ferociously. She reached the side just as a wave hit. Not immense, but large enough to rock the boat suddenly. The motion pitched her over the side.

She fell, smashing her arm against a rock as she tried to roll and cushion the fall. Jasmin screamed as pain lanced through the limb. Then she was barrelled forward in the foam. She hacked and coughed, trying to recover as the sea washed around her. Then she was on shore.

It took mere moments for the blackness in her mind to clear. She flexed the fingers in her hand. Her arm stung badly, but she could move them. So, it was unlikely she had broken anything. Then she tried to stagger to her feet. Pain lanced through her right ankle, shattering as white lancets in her head. She collapsed, unable to bear her own weight. She had either twisted or dislocated her ankle. It was useless, and as the other cruise members were so far away, she had to get up the shore herself.

She called out for help as she pulled herself along the sands, waves continually tugging and pushing her one way then the other.

Miranda

The nurse (just what WAS her name??) and I had almost reached Carmedy's shack, when the wind brought a strange noise. At first, I thought it was like the vision in the tree....just weird. And almost ignored it. With just steps to the shack, I realized the noise I was hearing was a voice...and a voice in pain at that.

I drop the stuff I'm carrying, and turn towards the ship. Damn, why did it have to rain so HARD?? I tried to look to the rocks where Jasmin had just been, and couldn't make anything out. Suddenly the sky lit up with lightening, and the rocks were bare! Did Jasmin manage to grab what she needed and get down? But I couldn't see her on the beach.

Suddenly another streak of lightening lit up the sky, and I noticed Jasmin's figure lying on the sand. A woman like Jasmin would not be lying down unless she was seriously hurt. I ran the remaining steps to the shack, and leaning in called to Che to follow me....Jasmin was hurt. Without waiting for a reply, I hurried down to the beach.

When I finally located her, I could tell she was in bad shape. She was holding her arm - was it broken? - and something was definetely wrong with her ankle. Although taller than I, I screamed at her over the storm to put her arm around my shoulders...I would try to help her back.

I looked up to the shack to see if Che was coming. I couldn't find anyone. I hoped he was coming...! As Jasmin placed her arm around my shoulders, I braced myself for the extra weight. We start to struggle up the beach....

"Here let me give you a hand."
Che reached down and grabbed Jasmin under the arms
and began hauling her back from the surf line.
Miranda was amazed at the strength the man seemed to posses.

He nodded toward's the sea which was crashing with increasing violence aginst the shore and the wreckage of the boats.

"Storm surge comin'. In 5 minutes where we're standin' will be 10 feet under water!"

The wind was shrieking, tearing at her clothes. He could barely be heard above it.

MIranda

Thank god, Che arrived when he did! As he lifted Jasmin into his arms and cradled her easily, I found I was beginning to look at him with new found respect. Perhaps I had been too harsh to judge...

He was nodding towards the ship and yelling at me. The wind, rain, and thunder made things difficult to hear. Was I supposed to back to the ship for something?? No, I don't think he would send me back there....Then I heard something about 10 feet of water. My eyes grew wide!

I looked back to where Jasmin had been. It had appeared that she had gathered some tools and stuff that would prove to be important. Looking at the sea, I didn't know how much time was left, and couldn't believe I was even contemplating what I was thinking!

I tried to yell back at Che that I needed to get the stuff Jasmin had picked up. He kept looking at me, and I know he didn't hear me. I pointed to Jasmin and then to the shack. He started back towards the shack. I started to run down to the beach to gather what Jasmin had left, but the pants Che had given me to wear were soaked and weighted down with water, adding extra pounds that slowed me down. Oh, what the hell, the t shirt Che gave me reached mid-thigh - I had dresses at home shorter than that. I tore off the pants, and continued along the beach, picking up what I could, keeping an eye on the water....

OOC: Sorry about the name. Her name is Jessica Welch

She makes her way to the shack with Miranda, when Miranda stops looking at a tree. She looks like she saw something but I didn't see anything I shrug and continue to walk when Miranda drops the stuff she was carrying and runs to the shack and then back to the boat. I look at her wondering where the hell is she going when lightning lights the sky once again, when a bearded man runs passed me following Miranda. I stop for a minute and pick up the stuff that Miranda dropped carrying what I can to the shack. I fight with the door, trying to open it with my arms full and finally open it and go inside. I drop the stuff once inside and look around seeing a man wearing a uniform of the ships officers. Having just signing on as the nurse she hasn't met all of them.

Jasmin Moonwalker: The Wind In The Corals

The storm was really raging when Che led Jasmin back inside. Thunder rolled back and forth over the little island. Lightning flashed through the sky, stabbing other nearby islets in anger at their escape. The ocean hurled its waves ever higher up the beach, as if trying to reclaim them. Jasmin collapsed into a beaten up chair, which, given its rough design, Che had made himself. Still, it let her regain her breath and composure. She checked the cabin and saw Miranda and the captain were missing. Casting a glance through the window, she two people struggling to bring the goods she had retrieved up the shore. She had to give it to the airhead, she had more guts than Jasmin had thought. If she didn't hurry up though, they'd be spread out over the beach from her wave shattered corpse.

She turned to Che. "You better get out there and give them a hand getting inside," she said. "There's no point in them dieing trying to get that stuff."

OOC: Xantham - not sure where you're going with that character and happy to have you aboard (or ashore). However, I hope this is not an angel/supermage type. To be believable, that character would have tremendous abilities which would remove one of the initially specified aspects of the thread: that this is a struggle for us all. Just my two-penneth.

The Wind in the Willows..err...Palms

OOC: I see your point, and be assured I am no superbeing.:) Though I intended the reference, I am not a copy.:)

At first a light briefly appears on the brow of the ship, then Arryel fades into view. He looks up feeling the storm surge begin.

Though he is at home in the elements, even Arryel begin to worry at the ferocity of the storm coming in. The rain washes over him in torrents. He feels the ship beneath him begin to shift and he knows that it will not remain here much longer.

He dives off the brow of the ship into the storm-tossed surf and begins to swim for shore. Barely visible ahead of him, he sees figures trudging back and forth through the wind and rain; first daring the storm to salvage a few desperate things from the wreckage and then when disaster strikes they race to save each other.

Something pulls at his heart. These people have such depth of caring for each other. Who are these people that they risk life and limb in this hellstorm for one another? Are they family? Is that what families do?

The momentary lapse into self-pity draws Arryel under the waves where he is tossed and turned and finally thrown out upon the beach to lie in the sand. though he feels no outward physical pain, he cannot seem to lift himself up.

"If I were to lay here for eternity would someone pick me up?" The self-pity both overcomes him and repels him at the same time. Slowly he picks himself up and trudges towards the makeshift shelter.

"Maybe I can learn something there..."

{There is a booming crash of thunder. The lightning stroke is so bright as to temporarily blind anyone looking in that direction, but before the rumble of thunder ends, there is a secondary flash of light and if one were to look towards the second flash, they would notice a body lying prone in the sand, waif-like, yet definitely male and unclothed.}

Miranda: seeking shelter

I manage to snatch up a few items that Jasmin had salvaged. The wind and rain was getting cooler, and wearing only a t shirt was not helping matters. I looked out at sea and up at the sky, and decided that I'd better head back to the shack, now.

I started to yell for the captain....but he was gone! I strained to look for him through the driving rain, but could find no sign of him. And I had no time to look. Maybe he had already gone up to Che's shack.....

Suddenly there were 2 bright flashes of light....almost eery. Shit, this outdoors stuff is for the birds....and the birds alone!

Trying to scurry quickly, I make my way back to Che's shack.

Carmedy's proposal

Carmedy's shack had never been very roomy and with six people inside it was claustrophobic. Everyone except Darcy who'd been enjoying supper by the fire, was soaking wet.
The place reeked of fish stew, sweat and wet clothes.
Che had crammed everything he could, including his books into the crib he called a bedroom, but that only allowed them to feel like sardines in a can.
To make things worse the storm was still in full fury outside and the almost constant rolling of thunder made talking difficult.

THe host offered bowls of stew all around but without spoons they were forced to dip into the scalding liquid with their fingers.

Che noticed that everyone was beginning to shiver, it might be shock setting in, the wet clothes or the fact that the temperature was still falling.

"Look here Everbody. I know this place pretty good.
I know what a storm like this can do. It's gonna blow all night and by mornin' it'll be damned cold. Your all wet
and their aint no place to dry clothes. Not exactly any Medical Facileteees neither. So if ya get sick, well...."

Everyone was looking at him. A more wobegone crew he hadn't seen since the morning after Woodstock.

He scratched his head.
"I give Miranda my best spare duds and I might say that ol' tshirt never looked better."

Indeed it was plastered to her body. She'd have won a contest in a heartbeat.

"So here's what I think"

A pause...

I got a couple a big army blankets. They're thick and warm.
We need to strip down to our skivvies or skin and crawl under 'um. That way with the fire I got we'll be comfy and nobody'll get pneumonia.
Wahaddya say?"

Miranda

I make it safely back to Che's shack. What didn't seem like such a big deal in the middle of a rainstorm, now became glaringly clear. The t shirt that Che gave to me clung to every curve. (although Miranda's hidden exhibitionist side was getting excited)

Trying to eat - with my fingers! - while standing in a wet t shirt and shivering were not ideal.

I listen to what Che has to say. It may not be absolutely ideal, but what else can we do? At least we'll be warm.

"I'll have to go along with Che. We can at least keep each other warm...maybe the storm will break by morning."

My lower lip shivers as I look around the room. I believe I see a very distinct gleam in Che's eyes....but also in Darcy's as well....

The Proposal

Jessica listens to the words of the old man and his words ring true. Last thing I want in the middle of no where is a cold. I look around the room to see the reaction of everyone else.

"Well I am game. I don't want to get sick and I recommend it, from a medical point of view. I think we will have a hard enough time as it is without being sick."

Darcy wanting to be helpfull

Looking at Miranda I can see she needs some comfort. Someone that she could trust and be close to at this most terible time. My heart goes out to her. She came through when the chips were down. Now maybe I have a chance to help her. I stand up and limp to her side. My ankle is getting better already the swelling gone down and the pain receeding. I take her hand and looking at the rest of them announce"I'll be next to Miranda, I'm warm and I can help her get warm and sleep that's what she needs most right now I'll share my dry clothes with her and if we could have just a bit of one blanket we'll be ok." Having said that I take Miranda into my arms and hold her close. whispering in her ear It will be allright my sweet darling Miranda.

Miranda: Gratefully accepting help

As Darcy takes my hand, I feel a flood of relief. I cannot help but lean into him, and when he holds me close I feel the warmth of him beginning to heat my own skin. And I also feel a stirring of warmth stemming from the very center of my being.

"Thank you, Darcy," I whisper to him, "I know now that all will be alright."

From somewhere, a tear slowly trickles down my cheek.

Darcy

"Now, now, Miranda" I croon Let's get you out of these wet clothes or you'll soon be getting a cold." I see a tear on her cheek, but her body is soft and steady in my arms. It's a tear of relief, I hope, I want her so much to feel safe to feel protected. I lead her to a corner of the room and take off my jacket and my shirt holding my jacket between her and the others, I whisper "Now my sweet one take that wet shirt off and put this dry one on. My shirt wii be long enough to cover your cute butt I add, with a friendly chuckle so you can take off your other clothes as well and use it for a night shirt. My jacket and pants will serve as an additional cover so we won't take more than our share of blanket". Miranda hesitates, so to show my good intentions I pull off my pants and holding them with my jacket. "It will be allright". I whisper. And in my heart I know it will be,For as long as we are together in this place, I know that Miranda will be mine to take care of, to mine to protect, and if she'll let me, mine to love.

Everyone watched the not so subtle byplay between Miranda and the First Mate.

Che chuckled,
"Well it looks like they want a bit of privacy, don't it.
Gonna be kinda hard to pull off. These blankets aint too big."

He had produced two wool blankets, each only wide enough for a single bed.

"I thought, I had another, but I forgot I patched the roof with it last year."

Everyone was wondering how the disrobement could be done and still maintain a minimum of modesty.
Carmedy didn't seem to think it a problem at all.
He shucked off his wet shirt and pants, tossing them over the heads of his 'guests', into the tiny closet.

Everyone was to shocked to say anything.

"C'mon people. Don't stand on ceremony. Strip down and get under."

He gave the blanket a snap and let it fall, settling himself
under it comfortably between the nurse and Jasmin.

"Either of you ladies need any help gettin' your duds off?"

Miranda

I am amazed and overwhelmed at Darcy's tenderness and gentleness. And I'm even more surprised at my sudden shyness about changing in front of him. After all, that last night on board ship, we were anything but shy with each other. But then we had both had a little too much to drink, and things had changed dramatically within the past 24 hours.

I take Darcy's shirt and pants from him as he holds his jacket up as a screen. Of course, in typical fashion, I hadn't bothered with bra or panties the night before, and Che's baggy fatigues were lying somewhere out on the beach. I turn my back to Darcy, and slowly pull off the still wet t shirt. Although I can't see him, I can feel Darcy's eyes absorbing every detail of my back and ass. I quickly pull on his shirt, to ward off the chill, and button it just enough for the sake of modesty. His shirt falls just above my knees, so I grab his pants and turning around, hand them back to him.

"Here, Darcy, why don't you hold onto these? I'll be fine once I'm next to you for warmth."

As I slip out of the corner, I reach up and give Darcy a kiss of thanks....with a promise of what might come later.

I watch with part shock/part laughter at Che's comfortability in getting undressed and squeezing himself between Jasmin and Jessica. I feel Darcy gently pull on my elbow and see that he has laid out the second blanket for us. I walk over to join him.

She watches as Darcy and Miranda do there ritual and then as Che just shucks his clothes off the climb under the other blanket. Having seen the naked body before she takes her cloths off then lays them out hoping that they will dry somewhat and then pulls the blanket up and climbs in with Che, thinking that for a man he is quite warm.
