A mail order bride or romance tourism plot might work if it were completely subversive eg old woman shopping for young men, non whites shopping for whites, submissive Asian guys shopping for doms. So the whole Thai sex tourism thing could be turned on its head when the cute little Thai boy joins a sex tour to California and comes home with his new white American muscle guy procured online.

Sex tourism is an entirely different thing from shopping for brides (or spouses). Both men and women have versions of sex tourism - usually, it's fairly well-off white Americans or Europeans (and usually a bit on the "mature" side) going for third-world people. The people who serve them are pretty close to prostitutes if they are female and gigolos if they are male. (It may depend on how they define themselves.) And, yes, there are gay versions of this.

Bride shopping is almost exclusively done by males visiting or maybe living for a while in an appropriate country.
