The state of Republican "soul-searching" November 10, 2012

You knew the TOP had completely lost it when their own healthcare plan became Communism in less than a decade. Heritage Foundation health schemes, Bush tax cuts continued, deficit hysteria in the Democratic Party. Conservatives won the larger war of ideas, and then got their thunder stolen.

ah, yes. well under the Obama we now have 49% of American's living off the government. what is your Goal Merc, get that number up to 80-90%?

smoke the obama juice! power to the regime

As I heard discussed yesterday.....

.....the Republicans in the House need to only vote "present" on each and every vote taken in the next 4 years (hmm....seems Obama did that as a Senator as well...:D ). After everything completely tanks, there is absolutely no way the Democrats can blame the horrible state that EVERYTHING will be in on the Republicans.

....they voted him in....let them see what a "great" leader can do now!

I sincerely hope they do that.

That would effectively give control of legislation to the minority party in the House.

If the House GOP doesn't replace Boehner with someone who CAN manage his troops, manage them at least enough that things that need to get done get done--there will be a thorough Housecleaning in 2014. I think we'll see quite a lot of votes in the next two years where moderate House Republicans vote with the Democrats rather than voting with the Rapepublicans.

I didn't elect people into office so they can play the numbers game to hold hostage and say "I told you so." I'm insulted that anyone on either side of the system finds that to be an appropriate answer.

how would you feel if you came to the hospital and I said,
"I'd give you some medicine.. but your doctor's an ass and we're trying to teach him a lesson."

seriously?? I would be ashamed if I'd just been elected and that came out of my mouth.

One of my huge problems with the past several months is that all the blame has been placed on the people. The poor people take advantage.. the rich people have too much.. blah blah blah blah blah

If you want the job, be accountable for what YOU do. Create a system that minimizes these problems. that's your flippin job! Good gravy.

that's the main myth about politics: they don't get into it for "the job". they get into it for what comes with the job. namely, money and power. and money. and power that's dipped in money. with power sprinkled on top. in a cone made of money.

They're definitely in a bind, because if they give up on the wedge issues they'll have to find new ones. Divide and conquer will always be their main plan. The only differences lie in how to implement.

Backing off on immigration is a total nonstarter with the base.

Bingo. I've seen people saying the last few days that "the Republicans need to stop bashing Latino immigrants; it's killing them in presidential elections." The problem they have is that there is a large part of their base who really do believe in that, and they aren't going to stop believing it simply to help "their team" win. Remember, these are voters who have been defeating proven November winners in Republican primaries, on flimsy grounds like "works with the other side too much" (Lugar).

The Democratic base was willing to jettison stuff like gun control in order to win elections, because it's just not a drop-dead issue for that many people. But conservatives are temperamentally more unwilling to compromise.

The one thing about this campaign that surprised me was that I had assumed if Romney was nominated, there would be a significant independent candidate designed to appeal to the social issues dieharders, based on Mitt's inconsistent track record there, including Romneycare. He managed to keep a lid on that because conservatives were so desperate to win, but since they held their tongues and still lost, that's probably not a bullet they can dodge forever.

3 million GOP voters didn't vote, if they had all the above tripe would be moot. We don't need to change anything. We need to run candidates all Republicans can get behind. We don't need to try and move the welfare class, the free loaders, the the single moms who've become wedded to collectivism instead of men, the opportunistic indolent, into our party. We'd have to forsake all of our core values and become Democrats ourselves to do so.

We need to continue to be the machinery of freedom, promoting individual freedom, free enterprise, support for limited constitutional government. We need to stand up for the heritage handed down by those who went before us, it's what made us a great nation. We need to continue to declare our contempt for the kinds of tyranny put upon us by masterminds seeking to undermine the absolute sovereignty of the American people and the notion of self governance. Win or lose we must always stand for liberty...AND LET THE CHIPS FALL WHERE THEY MAY.

3 million on your side are unAmerican. fuck them.

just wait till obama starts jacking up taxes...and as with the past 4 years add in the fact that income is going down ....

winds of change will come in 4 years. people will be pissed off enough and realized what a fucked up fantasy obama was (as they wake up to the socialist nightmare)

And if Queen Elizabeth had been born with balls, she'd be King Elizabeth today.

Derp.

Shorter Vetty: Lost an election? Next time double down on derp!

Big deal, this stuff ebbs and flows, Bush won two, Obama win's two.....much to do about nothing. If Obama fuck's up, they swing the other way....

Me? My retirement plan? I'm going gay, those dudes have lots of doe ray me.....

We'll be doubling down on what made us great not the tyranny you've so eagerly put your imprimatur upon.

I truly hope you stand proudly behind your words.

Winnowing out all but the most fervent "true believers" is a classic recipe for an ideological party in decline.

I seriously doubt you'll see a Republican president again in your lifetime.

some day people will wake up, and become embarrassed by having voted and supported for the obama
