It has been discussed by critics of the original story that it is in fact O who uses Rene and Stephen as tools for her own gratification. Taking this as a starting point to the extreme would be to make 'O' a narcissist. She does not seek true submission but goes through the ordeals to show that she is the perfect, greatest submissive of them all. So she is not desiring domination but narcissistic validation. But at some stage, Stephen looks through her guise, and he starts doing irreversible things to her, like the branding. In the end, to uphold the false image of being the perfect slave, she sacrifices her life.

I've not read the book nor seen the film so I'm not sure, but I'm not planning for Darlene to get involved with sub/dom or any sort of BDSM.

The book as originally written is fantastic. It is surprising just how long ago it was written. I have not seen a movie that comes close yet. Your thought about a new O following in her granddaughters footsteps is an interesting approach

Bah, book collections, language considerations are not the topic. The question is, why would someone want to get a modernized version of the story of O? Why should it need one? If you rewrite this story why not "The old man and the sea?"

- Do you just want to have it in a modern 21st-century setting?
- Make it more healthy BDSM in the sense of SSC/RACK?
- Do you want to change the plot? E.g. Not have O die at the end?
- Do you want to have it in a less cold and less austere prose?

You are very negative my friend. My idea was just a question and it is supposed to incite conversation out of that comes an idea that might work. I do get your point though the tv movie version of this story was set in the 21s or 20th century I think soa why bother unless you have a different hook.

Possibly, but I like the idea of having a relative of the author researching a story she knows little about, and the day after her 18th birthday is the day the story begins so there could be masturbation, voyeurism, self bondage, self abuse with the aim of feeling the things that are described in the book. I do want to stay away from the published work as it is still under copywrite and I am not sure on the law relating to this. I do have a intern, a male blonde bimbo at the office looking into this. but that's another story.

Like many professional writers, I have some novels I write that I know will NEVER be published. Sometimes I just need a creative piece for me to write about without the pressure of it having to be a non-erotic publishable novel. A new version of "The Story of O" is one of them. Incidentally I did another version of "Basic Instinct".

To be fair, my works are only based on the general premise of the two well known books/movies... not exact following of the plot line.

In "The Story of O", the woman was handed over for training.

In mine, the woman wants to leave a vile, but non-abusive marriage, and surprisingly is willing to give up a lot of freedoms to do so.

It begs the question, how could a non-abusive marriage be so bad that a woman would be willing to be a sex slave? The end of the novel answers that.

I get you. I am not really doing a new version of the story but a following along the lines of the original story but from a young woman perspective in in the modern world who is trying to make her way as a photographer, who happens to be the granddaughter of the author of the original story.

At the start of the story she had not read the book she just knew there was a smutty book out there that her grandmother wrote.

I don’t know about that. Book are one of the few things in this world that are increasing in value by more than the cost of living. My wife has just put a bid in on a bible. Personally I think she is nuts but there is something special about this one that makes it valuable.

I just do it as a hobby. But I tend more to write three chapters then have the fourth which builds naturally on the first three rejected. Or write a fifteen-part series and have the bot take down chapters five, eight, twelve, and thirteen.

It really is not even a fair fight!

A movie is very limited by what the movie director can do. Yes they can chose the actors and work with light and sound, but its something paraded before the eyes of an audience.

A case in point is the branding scene. With the movie you get a sense of foreboding and anticipation about what is about to happen, but in reading the book the reader can get inside the mind of a woman about to be branded with all the fear, anticipation, devotion, reverence, along with all the sensory details.
