His kisses were wet but rough, skillful tongue dipping into every crevice in her mouth. He held her solidly against him, her jaw clenched tightly between his thumb and forefinger. She usually liked rough, but Josh wasn’t Carter and Anna just wanted this to be over. If she had to acquiesce to his demands to get him to leave her alone then she would just have to suck it up and do it.
Josh’s threats hung heavy over her head. She didn’t so much care about herself, but her stomach exploded in fearful butterflies when he brought up her parents. God only knew what he could do to harm them, or what he was truly capable of. Annaleigh was scared to find out.
She did wonder about this “we” though. Did he mean Megan, or was there another more dangerous accomplice waiting in the wings that she didn't know about yet? She couldn’t help but think that Megan was the most daunting threat - a beautiful blonde bombshell with no limit to her ambition could be a truly menacing enemy. Anna would almost peg her scarier than Josh.
She really didn’t want to meet up with Josh anymore at all. The events of last night and today had left a sour taste in her mouth and no amount of information could possibly make up for that, but it was likely that Josh would never disclose anything anyway. It was useless. At least before she had hope that him using her body for his own pleasure might yield results. Now she knew that he was going to play her body to his own tune and she’d get jack-squat.
She had been so fucking stupid!
He left her sitting there as her phone rang with a deeply instense stare, making it clear that the punishment if she did not show up to the hotel would be severe. She really had no choice but to comply with his demands despite not wanting anything to do with them. She just couldn’t begin to imagine how much suffering they would put her through tonight.
Anna couldn’t believe that Carter picked up the phone to call her. After everything she’d put him through today it was kind of miraculous, actually. Even when he was reprimanding her, Carter was her safety blanket. He could instantly soothe her pain or negative feelings with his voice and his touch. God, she loved that man.
She listened to him yell her name through the phone, instantly feeling better. Her voice was still shaky and full of stutters, whisper soft, but her fear was slowly slipping away. She smiled despite herself.
“I-I’m so fucking sor-sorry! I should have listened to yo-you,” she blubbered. “I’m in a mess but I can’t do anything to stop him. He’s going to hurt my fam-family if I don’t do what he wants!”
Anna wiped at her cheeks with her hand, clearing the moisture from her reddened cheeks.
“I still can’t tell you everything that’s going on but we shouldn’t have gotten the application pushed through. There’s a potent drug inside - it could do a lot of damage,” she murmured.
She turned the key in the ignition as she calmed down. Her phone automatically connected to the Bluetooth and Carter’s husky voice settled down around her as the surround sound speakers in the vehicle projected it outwards. Anna drove slowly home, focusing on that and the conversation between herself and Carter.
She mostly listened to him talk, not saying a lot. Before she knew it she was home, curling into the couch with her shoes still on. The phone was pressed to her ear. For maybe the first time in the entire time since she’d known him, Anna deigned not to fight or back talk and to just let him lecture her. Anna didn’t think she’d ever done anything like that - keep her silence when she was being reprimanded. It spoke of how much she loved him.
Her breathing was slow and calm, panic attack completely gone with no trace it had ever existed in the first place. She felt like she might be able to fall asleep, but Anna could not let herself away with that. She might just sleep through the evening with the Ativan she had taken and the fact that she had not slept last night. She felt exhausted. She couldn’t risk that she might sleep through her “date” with Josh for fear of the retribution. Plus, she still had to find something he might classify as “sexy” despite not having any interest in looking good for him. She could care less if she showed up in a brown paper bag.
If she was going to be made to perform for him it would not be without difficulty; Anna wouldn’t make it easy. She was going to make him work for it. She did have a reputation for being stubborn, after all. The thought made her smirk a little in vindictiveness. She knew it might end up worse for her in the end but as long as he was just fucking with her life and not the lives of her family and friends Anna would put up with it. It didn’t make her feel any better, but as least nobody could say she went down without a fight. If Megan and Josh thought so then they knew nothing about Annaleigh - they would have another thing coming.
