The Trick (closed)

-Leon nods.-"I see...That must be tough i am sorry."-Leon saw more women whispering about her and excused him self.-"What is the big deal about my friend over there i like to know to."

Sally browsed the dresses and just as she found one she heard Leon's question and winced she had her own idea of what all the whispering was about. After all she was girl of 20 unmarried and worked in the saloon. She was sure they was saying she was asking for it that she was a loose woman. She stiffened her spine let them think what they would she knew herself and no one else mattered. She was sure once Leon discovered the tag that was surely placed upon her he too would keep his distance.

-Leon shook his head form there rubbish.-"Your both idiots."-he said walking back and smiled.-"Sorry silly trash talk will get you no whee with me."-he smiled.-"So did you pick out a dress?"

Sally blushed and nodded then blushed more when she realized the dress she picked matched the blue of his shirt. "Thank you for walking with me Leon." She whispered happy that apparently she had one true friend.

-Leon smiled.-"No problem i am glad to help out."-he smiled.-"I am going to grab some roast chicken before my shift you want to join me?"

Sally nibbled her lip and pulled out her father's pocket watch to glance at the time and did some figuring in her head. "If I make it quick I should beable to grab a bite with you before I have get ready and still make it to the saloon on time." Sally smiled and tucked her arm in his.

"Why Sally" she said to herself, "I belive your smitten."

-Leon nods.-I have to get ready to. Some chicken and a nice juice and it will be excellent."-he said as they went and sat down Leon ordered them two roast chicken lunches and two ice cold juices.-

As they waited for their food to arrive Sally placed her hand on Leon's "I really have to thank you again for everything but I also should warn you the rumors about me will only get worse and if you keep hanging out with me they will start to involve you too. I hate to say if that happens perhaps it would make it nigh to impossible for you to find a bride when you are ready."

She gave Leon a sad smile "Perhaps this should be the last thing we share." A tear ran astray down her cheek as she whispered the words.

-Leon looked to her.-"I will let them talk if they want....I do not care...not at all...you need some happiness in your life after all your family is dead it sounds like...you need some body."

Sally blushed to her roots and ducked her face down. "I do and while you may not wish a bride now you may very well in the future. I would not have your name sullied because of me. You are much to kind for such a fate."

-Leon smiled as there drinks came.-"They only talk because they do not understand and wish to say what they wish to say..."-Leon said.-"Hey do not concern your self....Shit always happens in this town from what i seen...I been living here for the past 3 years...and the smallest things set off talk....People were talking about me being a bank robber for a while."-he chuckled.-

She smiled tenderly at Leon, "Yes I know but I have been here my whole life even if not in town perse and me working at the saloon will keep talking going." She gave a sad laugh. "I accepted a long time ago I would never marry but I would deny that ability to a friend and my personal saviour. I am ruined in the eyes of the town now but it okay I can deal with it you shouldn't have to Leon your a good man."

Once she finished talking the food arrived and she dug in she knew she needed to hurry if she was to get ready on time.

-Leon began to eat as well enjoying the roast chicken. Leon finished with her and the drinks as he paid for them. They began there walk back to get ready.-"Like i said do not worry.......you will find some one..."-he smiled to Sally gently taking her hand.-

Sally blushed and gently rested her head on Leon's shoulder. "It is good of you to say so Leon but you have been here 3 years and I have lived in Texas all my life. I know no respectable man will have me now I know there was a chance of that when I took the job in the saloon but I know what others whisper about and what is the truth. In my heart I know I am not soiled so what others say will not send me to hell. But they could well make my life hell."

-Leon bit his lip. IT was decided he would ask her out tonight but not now. They had to get ready and they did not have time to dawdle right now. Leon smiled as they part ways. Leon was ready to go in 45 minutes dressed and cleaned up as He waited for Sally knocking on her door.-"Come on we will walk together."

Sally smiled as they parted way to get read 45 minutes later she heard a knock on her door and set to turning the air blue, she was a ranchers daunghter after all, she was late. When she heard Leon's voice through the door she cursed again and called out.

"Leon I am going to be late I just got the dress on I need to do my hair I will be at least 10 more minutes." She went about cussing again she hated being late for anything.

-Leon nods.-"I will tell him you had to get a new dress."-he said and ran off. He told the bar keep and he shrugged.-"Girls normally are late but we are not busy. Leon began to help serve drinks to the few patrons before seeing Sally Walk in and he began to warm up. The bar keep smiled.-"easy Miss Sally...you keep running around like that your going to ruin your self...relax your father and brother be proud of you right now."-he smiled.-"Sure this bar keep knew her few didn't know her her father would come in here often some times with her a bit.-

Sally smiled at the bar keep and leaned over to kiss his weather roughend cheek "You are far to kind to me you keep it up and you'll have me swooning then who will serve drink hmmm?"
The bar broke into laughter hearing her comment to the old barkeep. But before anyone could say anything else she was off dashing about the saloon again she figure it ws about time to take Leon another glass of water. She leaned over his shoulder to pick up his empty glass and replace it with the full one smiling sweetly at him.

Dang but she was smitten with him.

-Leon smiled asking for a cranberry juice with a twist of lime. He smiled as he sipped his water once done with one song and started another. The place was getting busy he whispered to Sally when she came back.-"Try to be careful I got my pistol on me should you go on break take it from my hip."-he said as he continued to play his tunes.-

Returning to Leon with his juice she nodded acknowledging she had heard but did not have time to tell that the bar keep and she had agree she should not step outside alone so either the keep or Leon would escourt her. The saloon was swinging and she was running the other "ladies" where in attendance tonight as well but most seemed to like Sally and Sally them. Sally was a live and let live type a person. As most of the gents went upstairs or left she heard keep yell. "Leon you and Sally go take a break and get some air."

-Leon stopped his play as he finished his juice escorting Sally outside he relaxed and smiled. Leon gently leaned in to Sally.-"So....Getting good tips?"-he asked. The night getting a bit brisk in the dessert. Leon smiled shivering slightly only from thinking of Sally though.-"Any trouble so far?"

Feeling Leon lean closer to her she leaned on him letting him take some of her weight her feet where killing her. "Tips are fair to middling I'd say so far everything seems to be going well. And you how is your night going? YOur poor fingers must be bone tired."

She picked up one of his hands and gently caressed his fingers.

-Leon smiled happily.-"Shoot no when i was smaller i practiced piano. I been playing since i was 6. I have my work out for my fingers I do just fine. My tips are going good always get tips when i play a song every one likes."

She smiled back at she loved the way he talked and her world lit up when he smiled at her. Without consious thought she lifted the hand she was holding and kissed the tips of his fingers. Suddenly realizing what she was doing she jumped up and dropped his hand. "Oh God Leon I'm so sorry I don't ever know what over came. Please don't think ill of me I really don't know what I was doing."

Quickly she turned away in shame. It was not the place of a lady to be so forward with her beau and Leon was not even her beau just a friend and now she was ruining it all.

-Leon smiled.-"From where i am from that was a big step...I liked it.....Do not be so shameful...We will talk later...Just relax please."-Leon said holding her close in a hug.-"You must not think so little of your self."
