Eve seemed quite impressed by his creations. He felt a sense of pride welling up from deep within his heart. He had never shown any of these to anybody else before. When his father had told him to stop wasting his time on trying to reinvent the wheel as he called it, John stopped showing him.

"Thank you so much Eve, you have no idea what it means to me." he stated excitedly.

"For so long I have kept these a secret, fearing that others would think me a crazy dreamer. Like my uncle"
he added somberly. His hand came up and brushed a stray hair from the front of her face and tucked it behind her ear. He wasn't sure where the gesture came from but it seemed appropriate at the time.

"A long while ago, when I was cleaning out my father's storage room in the shop, I found a book. In it, there were pages and pages of diagrams depicting tools and weapons. Each schematic showed detailed instructions, measurements and materials required to create the device. I only managed to study it for a short while, my father interrupted me and took the book away. When I asked about it later in the day he denied its existence. To this day I have never seen it again."
he explained.

"Everything I have made here. Is only a sample of what I could make. For some of it, I've had to experiment by trial and error to produce the desired results. It has been frustrating at times, but I love my father and I believe there is a reason, however strange, that he keeps such things from me." John explained with a sigh. Even though he justified his father's actions out in the open, as John got older, he began to question his father wisdom on a more regular basis.

His story sounded familiar, and many of the questions she had asked her mother about where all the knowledge for making medicine had come from, had likewise been ignored or brushed off. But she had assumed it was a family secret, that one day she would earn the right to learn. But, at 24 that day had yet to arrive. It had pained her for a long time.

"I have also wondered where a lot of knowledge has come from. None of the teachings can explain a lot of it."

But she assumed it was because books and scrolls and journals had simply disappeared over the years.

"I think we should get moving," she said quietly, wondering what Jacob had meant by touching her in such a way. Sure, it was only moving a strand of hair, but their proximity had been lessened by the movement.

"We should make the most of the day, and find somewhere to camp for the night with plenty of time to prepare for anything. I'll follow you."

The statement was one of practicality but it also added that she would follow and trust his lead. In fact, she was sure she would trust him with her life if the situation required.

Eve mirrored his concern about the knowledge they had been denied. Now that they had both put their concerns out in the open it made him wonder if the forbidden forest was somehow connected. Perhaps they would find out sooner than later.

"You're right, since the visibility is so low we wont be able to navigate very effectively. Keep your necklace handy Eve, we might need it" he noted.

They made their way to the edge of the forest. The eerie darkness of the woods caused a shiver to run up his spine. There would be no turning back once they crossed the threshold. With deep breath Jacob journeyed forward.

The first few hours were quite uneventful, so much so, that Jacob was starting to doubt his Uncle's claims of danger. The only thing he could note was the lack of wildlife sounds. He expected to hear the buzz of cicadas and chirp of birds but there was only dead quiet. Before he could become complacent however, he heard a soft rustle in some nearby bushes. Jacob quickly readied himself drawing the sword from its scabbard.
