Lily had aggravated the witch enough to lessen her concentration, enough that Fen could escape her spell. Lily watched as he fell to the floor while Lily desperately tried to load another bolt. The witch was still charging at her at top speed but everything seemed to move in slow motion for Lily.
All at once, a great billowing fire filled the room as Fen attacked. It engulfed the witch first, who was mere feet from Lily. She wailed in pain. Lily couldn't help but scream as the fire approached, but to her immense relief when the fire neared her, it seemed to bounce back in the opposite direction, dancing away from her and straight back at the witch. The fireproof earrings were diverting the fire away from Lily! Their plan was working!
But somehow, the witch was still moving. She turned to Fen once again, renewed rage in her eyes. She started hobbling towards him, the flames licking her skin, eating her alive. The witch bitch was moving too fast for Lily's liking. Lily pointed her crossbow and shot, this time hitting her in the shoulder as the witch stumbled towards Fen.
She fell to her knees in front of him as the intense flames consumed her and blood poured from her wounds. Her death cry was wretched as Fen's flames burned even brighter, white-hot.
Fen magically doused the fire as quickly as he'd produced it. When the flames cleared, nothing remained but charred bones. Lily's breath came rapidly, adrenaline still racing through her body.
"It's... over," she turned to Fen. "She's dead." She smiled wide. She never thought she'd be happy at someone's death before, but Lily was overjoyed at this. Her love was safe. They were safe. They could live in peace, happily ever after.
She ran to Fen and leaped into his arms, wrapping her arms around his neck, squeezing him tightly.
