Mathilda
The small blanket was almost finished.
Mathilda tasted the soup, scooped some tea out off the pot with her plastic mug and tasted that too. It could use a bit more honey, and the strawberry jam hadn't added much of a fruity taste, but it was very well drinkable.
Momma had cleaned out three of the baby food glasses and was working on the fourth. Suddenly Mathilda thought of Shadow, and took the last two glasses out off the cats' box.
She would bring them to Shadow to lick clean and tell everyone breakfast was ready.
To make sure the soup wouldn't burn when she was away she put the pot beside the tea before she left the room.
She couldn't see anyone outside. But she heard noises. She headed back and took her spear. Following the soft sounds she found quite some people digging holes behind the motel. The walkers were already dragged there and Nikki checked their pockets. One was even still wearing a bag slung over its shoulder, Matilda saw when she came closer.
"Breakfast is ready," she announced. "Stop what you are doing and come eat while the soup and the tea are hot. Nikki, these are for Shadow to lick clean, a small treat. I hope he likes," for the first time she looked at the labels, "cauliflower with minced meat and carrots with bacon."
