Feron's Worries

“I have no objections, Nocturne. I wish you the best of luck. Between your portals and Wolverine’s keen senses and reactions, I’m sure you will be fine. You may want to take Skoll with you as well. If things do get hairy, you may need the extra muscle to buy yourselves time to get out. I will stay here and assist either team as it is needed.”

It was a good setup, Feron thought; Hank and Illyana working in the War Room studying the disease situation in Pakistan and Wolverine, Skoll and Nocturne heading to Genosha to investigate the Magneto problem.

While Nocturne was probably still drained from her experiences in the danger room, she could hold her own, especially with Wolverine and Skoll watching her back. This setup would also give Cyclops and Hellion time to recover from the Danger Room. If reinforcements were needed, they would be the ones called and would need to be at their best.

Internally, Feron wondered about his friend. Cyclops and Nocturne had been able to walk out of the Danger Room with minor injuries, but Julian had been carted out by Elixir. He knew the infirmary would offer him the best care that could be provided, but he still worried about his friend’s wellbeing.

“If you will excuse me for the moment, I am going to go see how Julian is recovering,” he said, nodding to the Professor and the others before turning to Beast. “I will be back shortly Mr. McCoy.”

He moved quietly down the hallways of the Institute towards the infirmary. He knew he probably couldn’t go in, but he wished to check in anyways. Through the glass on the doorway he saw Julian. The bandages covered much of his body. Feron saw no gel-casts on him, which meant he had not broken any bones. Julian tossed restlessly in the bed, the sleep offering him more torment than rest.

Feron could do little to help his friend but wait. He knew that standing here and watching him sleep would do little to speed the healing process, and he was needed elsewhere. He turned and made his way to the War Room to offer his help as needed.

Ilyana blushed lightly at Jake's kiss. Shaking her head as both he and the portal disappeared, she turned her attention to the matter at hand. Hearing that people were trying to exclude her from the Genosha mission pissed her off. "Wait a minute. I'm Generation Next team lead and it was my idea to sneak a couple of mutants onto Genosha. There is no way in hell you guys are taking over and leaving me behind. Besides, Nocturne's been injured and needs her rest." She glared as they tried to protest and she clenched her fists tightly at her side. "How many of you exactly can get into and out of a place as quickly and as quietly as someone who can teleport can hmmm? Wolverine, no offence, but you're not the best choice to go against Magneto. What if he spots you and decides you won't be going anywhere? You have adamantium bonded to your bones. It was my idea so I volunteer to scout out Genosha. I'll even take Nightcrawler and one other mutant with me."

jake wake

jake spent about 20 min or so in a coma-like state. if you looked at him for awile, it would appear that he was certainly dead. but his pulse was attually faster then normal. he was breathing in air slowly(enough so you couldnt spot it) and was using almost his max lung capability. after about 20 min, give or take a few, he woke up and jumped out of the room, jumped back in, and found a safe place. at this time he was starting to remember were he was, and why. it took him a moment or 2 longer to sort it out, and then being fully recovered, he went in the direction of the danger room to see what was happening.

iceman was getting annoyed. the team leads were either going to the war room or on the mission. he followed feron, thinking he was his best chance. after seeing feron looking at hellion, he said "dont take it too hard man, he will be recovered and on the team again very soon." then he paused before adding. "so can you help me out and run a mission in the danger room? the more trained x-men there are, the less chance of anyone getting hurt."

Professor Xavier

The Professor listened to Iceman's suggestion of a developing a defense against telepaths.

"Yes, Bobby I do agree. Telepaths have always posed a challenge even to other telepaths such as myself. Together, perhaps Forge and I could create something. But it would take time and prevent him from working on other endeavers."

"good point. in the future, we should make some time to find a solution. until then, i suppose we could always try to use some alien technology. it would be something to do whenever we get a chance." "prehaps we could steal magnetos idea and figure out how his helmet works". he said the later half-jokinly

Wolverine shook his head and smiled at Ilyana's frustration. "Im not worried about mags, im just going to investigate sentinels. I've dealt with Magneto and his stooges more and longer then you. Feel free to come with, Eirik is still a student and the professor hasnt given the go ahead for his mission readiness." Logan said, looking to his son, "Sorry Eirik, but its a fact. If i had my way youd be on the field already."

iceman then remembered that he had an importing meeting with his girlfriend. that was more then enough to make him have second thoughts about training. "sorry feron, i just remembered that i have something else to do. goodbye and luck!". iceman raced away, wanting to make his date.

Professor Xavier

"I think Skoll has more than proven himself worthy Wolverine. He would make an ideal candidate for Generation Next." the Professor says.

"And I must agree with Ilyana. Her teleportation skills would make her an ideal candidate for this reconaisance mission. Still, if you fall into danger I worry that you may not have the needed combative skill to fend off the Genosha guards, the sentinels and perhaps the House of M. Ilyana should lead this mission. Magik, you may choose whoever you wish, provided they accept, to accompany you. I would recommend that you select mutants whose powers and skills would enable you to remain subtle but to also have a backup plan. As leader, you should outline a strategy and plan while in the air or before you leave. What methods of information gathering can you do here at the mansion? Keep in mind that the longer you remain her takes more and more out of our own hands and leaves our destiny for others to determine. Choose your team and your strategy wisely." The professor says and turns to the group.

"Any of you may volunteer and offer Magik assistance, explaining why your unique abilities would be best utilized on any given mission. You may also help her construct a plan of action though the final decision rests with her." The Professor begins to leave.

"I wish to investigate more of the situation in Pakistan and I would welcome any assistance on the matter."

Cyclops

"I wish I could help you more Magik. The battle with X-Man left me pretty banged up. Even though my skills as a field general may have come in handy during combat, I worry that if a combat situation arose we may have already lost. Its a tough choice. We may be on the verge of a total war between Genosha, the United States and who knows who else. The best choice that I would recommend to go with you is Nocturne. Her possession powers can allow her access and combined with your teleporation you all could be pretty subtle. It's unfortunate Iceman and Specter haven't been cleared by Danger. Both of their abilities would help her too. Still, I think Wolverine should go. Even if he won't be much of a match against Magneto. Are any of us a match for him really? He's been a spy and soldier longer than any of us. Logan can handle himself fine. Still, the final choice is up to you. Does anyone else know how we could help?"

jake returned to the danger room intime to hear xavier say "I wish to investigate more of the situation in Pakistan and I would welcome any assistance on the matter."

"ill come with you profesor. its more important then staying hear and being clared with danger, and my school work is taken care of."

he also secretly hoped he could talk to the profesor about his... special needs, and offer his knowledge. and his latent teachers pet aspect was working as well. or maybe he just needed a close companion.

Professor Xavier

"I would appreciate your assistance Jake." the Professor says as he begins to move toward his office.

"How do you feel about the Danger Room simulation?"

Wolverine smiled at the professor's words about Eirik. "Alright, Eirik, you can come with me, if Ilyana decides she wants us."

beast

Beast sighed, 'If you want me to come along, i will come along, but otherwise i am more interested in the pakistan pandemic more than this.'

'Proffessor, May i take a small team to pakistan to study this outbreak?'

Warfly

Matt sat patiently as he waitied to go with the Proffessor and tell him about the pictures, and also to tell him that he wanted to go and discover his past.

He wanted to tell the proffessor as soon as possible, by his own words, and hoped the proffessor hadn't read all this from him telepathically.

Nocturne

TJ nodded to Illyana, 'I volunteer to go with you, i can blend into shadows in ways that these guys can't, and plus i do know a lot of magic as well.'

Ilyana smiled wistfully at Scott. "I wasn't going to ask you Cyclops since you are injured. If you hadn't been I'd ask you in a heartbeat since you have more experience then I do, but I can still take your advice." She thought about what he had said about who she should take and nodded as she realized he was right. "Alright Wolverine, Skoll, Nocturne suit up. I'm going to see what info I can find here before we leave and see if one more person wants to join. I think five people would be good for a reconnaissance mission like this. I only wish Shadowcat or Nightcrawler were here..."

Nocturne grinned and de-activated her Holo-inducer and smiled.

'I'm already suited up.'

iceman spent the rest of the afternoon first trying not to snap and freeze his girlfriend, then trying to break up with her nicly. he ended up freezing her then breaking up.

phycho

"profesor, the danger room sim was a good test of our abilitys. it tested our weaknesses against telepaths, our reasoning skills, and how we dealt with a the death of a teammate. also, how we handled the possibility of our own death". he said a bit shakily.

Incident in the Infirmary

The thin slats of light filtered in through the blinds and settled over Julian’s face. The sleep he was getting was not a restful sleep, and his mind was only being tormented by the horrific images he had been subjected to in the Danger Room. But other images were filtering into Julian’s mind; images he had not seen in the Danger Room.

These new images replayed themselves over and over as he lay in the recovery bed. Julian was on the verge of awakening, but something kept him from breaking slumber’s grasp. He could almost see a shadow pass over him as the thin fingers of light playing on his eyelids went dark for a moment. These were the times when the images were the strongest and the most vivid. And they were more than images. When they became that powerful, they almost seemed like experiences to Julian. He could smell the wet earth, feel the heat from the fires, and hear the cries of those dying around him.

An image of Sentinels massacring hundreds of mutants came into his mind. The two lumbering behemoths showed no mercy, gave no quarter, as mutants both young and old fell before it in a terrible wake of blood and death. The image faded, as did the shadow. Sleep began to come. The dark presence returned, blotting out the light and bringing other, more horrifying images into his mind. There were burning hulks of ships floating in the vastness of space, their crews silently screaming as the vacuum of space tore them apart from the inside. The silence of the scene is what was most bothersome to Julian. He had seen the silence of space in the Danger Room and had been given a taste of the icy sting that precluded the agonizing death each of the hundreds of floating souls would be feeling over the next several seconds.

The darkness faded from his mind as he felt the cool compress on his forehead. The slight chill that it sent through his body as it cooled and returned from the horrors of his mind shook him from his slumber. The room was dark. The lights had been turned off. Only a light glow from the monitoring equipment kept the pitch black from closing in. A thin figure was sitting on the edge of his bed, reaching for him, reaching for his mind. He sprung from the bed, knocking over the diagnostic equipment that had been hooked up to him to monitor his vital signs. The equipment fell to the floor and shattered its screens on the cold tile. Julian continued to back away from the figure. He could feel the light pinpricks of the glass cut into his feet as he stayed fixated on the figure.

It was probably a mutant sent here to spy, to gather information, Julian thought. Magneto had done that before with Mistique, but why would he send a telepath? And why target him? Was it simply a matter on convenience or was it to use him to gather information on other mutants and Professor Xavier’s plans? None of it made sense. Julian continued to back away until he felt the confining presence of the infirmary wall behind him.

It rose from the bed and began to advance on him. It’s slow and measured pace was slightly unnerving to him. He scanned the room frantically, hoping to find something he could use against this intruder. The diagnostic equipment on the floor. The figure was passing it, stepping over the outstretched cords lying on the floor. Julian concentrated on them and they shot out, acting as a tripwire to foil the figure’s sinister advance.

The plan worked. The figure’s feet caught the taut cables as its outstretched arm reached for Julian. The figure fell and passed through a beam of light coming through the window on the infirmary door. Julian’s heart dropped as he saw Piper’s face illuminated before she fell and crashed to the floor, the cold compress still in her hand.

Had he not been injured in the Danger Room simulation, he may have been quick enough to catch her before her body met the hard tile on the floor. But his injuries betrayed him and his hands caught only air as Piper fell to the ground in a heap.

“Shit, Piper,” Julian said, kneeling at her side as she began to rise from the fall. “I didn’t know it was you. I was having these dreams…” He trailed off, trying to remember what he had seen, but the images were gone.

“It’s alright, Julian,” she said, brushing herself off. “You were sweating bullets, and I thought this might help you sleep better.” She held up the compress with one hand and opened the blinds with the other. Julian had been the only patient in this area of the infirmary. Piper had pulled the blinds and shut off the lights to ensure he would sleep and rest. She had only been caring for him. “Let me get a broom and clean this up.”

She scurried off, avoiding the broken equipment, leaving Julian to stand there with his thoughts. Julian looked around the room and contemplated the possibilities. He had seen the cords on the floor first, but he could have easily have seen the case of surgical tools in the cabinet to his right or the heavy steel bed he had been lying in. Either one could have proven deadly to Piper. He had panicked. He hadn’t kept his cool and thought the situation through like Cyclops had always told him to do. What if things had gone south had she had been hurt, or worse, killed? Julian began to question his abilities, and his status at the Institute as a member of the X-Men.

Piper returned and began to sweep the shards from the floor into a dustpan when she noticed how quiet Julian had become.

“Don’t worry about it, Julian,” she said, patting him on the arm and seemingly lighting up the room with her warm smile. “No harm, no foul.”

Julian looked at her and couldn’t help to think what he might have done to her.

“I…I…I could have really hurt you,” he stammered. “I could have lost control and hurt you or anyone else in here. I just don’t know what to do.” He sunk to the floor, resting his back against the wall and hanging his head into his hands. “Am I even cut out for all of this?”

Piper sat next to him and wrapped her arm around his shoulder.

Of course you are. You’re Julian Keller, Hellion, the next legend of the X-Men. If you weren’t cut out for this, would they have given you a chance at a Team Lead position?” They sat and talked for several minutes as Piper’s kind words helped to rebuild the confidence that had almost been shattered. “Now, do we think we can get you back into bed to get some rest without tearing the place up anymore? And if you’re a good boy and don’t try to kill me again, maybe I’ll convince Elixir to let you out tomorrow. Light duty only, but at least you won’t be stuck in a bed.” She smiled again. A calm set over Julian as his adrenaline subsided.

“Sounds good to me, Piper. I’ll give it one good night’s sleep and then I’d like to be out of here.

Julian settled back into the bed as Piper hooked up the leads from a new monitoring station. She closed the blinds and bid him a good night’s sleep before turning and walking out to the other end of the infirmary. Julian laid his head back onto the pillow and almost instantly fell into a deep, relaxing sleep.

The horrific images did not return.

Enter the Cajun

The door finally gave way to his adamantuim staff and opened slightly. Judging by the dust and debris that fell as the door slowly gave way and opened the rest of the way, he imagined that this was going to end up being a dead end as well. It had been the better part of a year since he had left the mansion, and Rogue, to go in search for Sinister. He had always had some sort of connection with the geneticist and Xavier knew that if anyone could track Sinister down it would be him.

He booked a flight to Europe, then went cross country on a "barrowed" motorcycle to return to the small town where the incident took place. Despite the clean up the town had accomplished following the outbreak, he could still smell the stench of decay as if he never left. He parked his bike and walked through the town, his mind flashing back to that night when he returned to help his fellow teammates....

The bike rolled a few more feet, then twisted and fell, but it momentum kept it moving ‘til it was right in front of the garage. It was then that it exploded in a mass of debris as his mutant power activated. The force of the blast knocked most if not all of the Zombies forward and on their faces. Due to Rogue being behind the bug she was left standing.

When the smoke cleared, all that could be seen of Gambit and Psylocke was what the streetlamp above them illuminated. He reached into the pocket of his trench coat, pulled out his staff and a cigarette. He tucked the staff beneath his arm and lit the cigarette with a lighter. A quick inhale followed by a jet of smoke from his nose and the cigarette's end burned a dull red.::

So is this a private party, Cher, or can anyone join the dance?

The thought brought a smile to his lips. How he did love to make an entrance, and that one was up there on his list of best ones. Passing through the opening, he followed the cavern down into the depths of the underground lair until he finally made it to the lab. Looking around, he could tell that this lab hadn't been used in quite some time considering the mountain of dust and rock that covered the desks and tables. Deciding that this was nothing but a wild goose chase, he left the lab and headed back topside. His mind once again filled with hits of the last time he was here in the little town outside Munich...

Rogue quickly moved through the air, then she heaved Gambit up into the air. He knew that this was going to be a long ride, but he knew what had to be done. He reached the arc of the throw, then flipped himself to give him that much more on the throw. On the decent he drew his arm back and threw the charged dart at EVA. With the dart on its collision course with the ship, he opened his arms and legs trying to slow the speed he was falling at to give Rogue a chance to catch him. He attempted to keep his eyes on EVA and the dart as long as he could while he waited to be caught.

He once again felt her arms around him and he came to a stop resting in those arms. He kept his eyes on the projective as it made its way closer to EVA. With Storm's lightning strikes hitting EVA, his dart should be the blow that brought her down.

Finally he emerged from the cavern and headed back to his motorcycle. Throwing a leg over it, he settled on it and started it up once again. Out of ideas, he thought over the last time he had spoken to Sinister to see if the geneticist left him any clues as to where he was.

It is a shame really. All of these poor souls end up infected then murdered. These things happen when powerful information gets into the wrong hands.

::Gambit shook his head.::

Dese people didn't have to die like dis. Dey are already blaming da mutants for da outbreak. Guess it will just be another incident for Governments of da world to persecute us even more.

It will never end, the war between mutants and humans, we both know that. However I'm here to collect that which belongs to me. The disc please.

::Sinister -in the guise of Dr. Essex- held out his hand. Gambit just shook his head.::

Fantomex didn't have da disc on him. Storm claimed to have seen it when she was aboard EVA but said dat it was lost. I'm starting to think dat dere wasn't a disc to begin with and you just sent me to stop Fantomex knowing I wouldn't allow anything to happen to Rogue.

Well then I guess our business together is done then. At least for now.

No, if dis Infection was because of something you created, den you have a cure and I need it.

I take it one of your friends was infected then?

Two actually, though after seeing one of dem I don't t'ink a cure will work for him. I need da cure for Storm though.

Ah then we do still have business to conduct then. A cure for this infection...If there is a cure it would come at a price.

::Gambit took a cigarette and lighter from his trench coat and lit the cigarette after putting it between his lips.::

It always does, Sinister. It always does.

Finding nothing in those last words, he shook his head and started to drive back towards civilization. He had finished his search for Sinister in Europe and came up with nothing, he would have to return to the mansion and see what Xavier had come up with. Either way, Gambit was heading home..

Beast

Hank sat down and looked at Xavier.

'Well Charles? may I lead a team to study this pandemic or not?'

Professor Xavier

"Absolutely Beast. As team lead the decision is yours. Will you take anyone to assist you? I will go and try to find more about this strange phenomenon and will keep you posted from here."
