I absolutely love flying, but like you I am not really too happy about being driven at high speed... I don't mind driving at high speeds, its the not being in control bit which freeks me

and...i don't know what i'm going to do about getting across the pond if i can't teleport. i've never been up in a plane. EVER. and...frankly...the thought of being in one and flying over such a big body of water...*shudders*

Although I am not afraid of flying, I despise it sufficiently to investigate the alternatives. Thankfully there is still another way to get around the world: http://www.cunard.com/ The "standard" offering includes flying one-way, but once you're spending that much money and time a second ocean voyage doesn't really add that much. And it looks like there are LOTS of things to do on the QE2 and QM2 I hope to visit Europe this way in a couple years.

Domestically I've taken a multi-stop cross-country train trip. Although sleeper berths on Amtrak aren't cheap, it is 1st class service still, and a very civilized and relaxing way to travel. I assume the big ships are the same.
