I was in fact having a discussion with on my professors, who specialized in the history of women's studies, about how the term "gender" has almost become a coded word that means "women." If you talk about a Gender Rights movement, or Gender Equality, people automatically read that as Women's Rights, etc. It's seen as a more neutral term to use, but it gets used in only a single context too often. So I did find that much intellectually stimulating.
And ya know, I can say with a clear conscience that I usually am that guy who's willing to say, "Whoa, that's a nasty thing to say," or "That's a pretty negative attitude." So I get the guy's point, it's important to interject that into conversations so people don't just accept really bad outlooks on subjects like violence, or race, or sexual identity.
I'd say more, but it would probably generate a discussion and this isn't the place for that.

Yesterday I got a text from my 21 yr son who has been in Georgia at ft benning for boot camp and I haven't seen him since January ask me to bring oreos when I go out there next week for his graduation because hes dying for them.
Just for the record, we DO have Oreos here. It's not like we're uncivilized or something.

I think you have mistaken her intention. I cannot speak for her thoughts obviously but I know thyri well and she is not the type to make spiteful observations without a reason. I sincerely doubt that her words were anything more than a bit of good natured fun.
