Seeking sympathy more than anything else, I suppose. I noticed a slight irritation on my inner thigh Sunday morning when we got up early; by noon there was a visible puncture and a quarter size swelling. Today it's up to a baseball size hard lump in my thigh with red swelling all around. It hurts to sit, it hurts to walk, I'm sick of lying in bed all day and I just wanted to whine to someone.

That is all. We now return to our regularly scheduled program, already in progress.

Ummmm.... I don't think that's safe.

Have you had it looked at? 'Cos if you haven't, I REALLY think you ought to.

That does NOT sound good.

Just to really gross you out, there are recorded incidents of spiders laying thier eggs in punctures in people. Then, a few weeks later, hundreds of tiny spiders will emerge from the wound. :p

It sounds like a brown recluse bite...if it is you will need to be treated with anti-biotics or the skin breakdown will continue. Also, if you think the bite occurred in your home I would put glue traps out and then contact a professional exterminator. Don't take any chances that you might come in contact with one of these spiders again. They are not that dangerous (there are much worse insects out there), but the sores and skin breakdown can be pretty severe if left untreated. I hope you start feeling better soon.

That doesn't sound like an average spider bite to me!!!!

I would get it checked out, seriously.

Echo!

A minor bump and irritation...ok....walk it off

Not being able to sit and that amount of swelling....go to the Doc!!! Is an urgent care clinic open? Have you tried cold compresses?? You can't take a chance with this sort of thing! We only have one Vanelane!!

Oh and I think that whole spider laying eggs inside a bite proved to be an urban legend...

Thanks for all the comments and support!

I've been convinced to see a doctor tomorrow. Yep, been putting ice on it all along. It wasn't at home; we were at a beach house over the weekend.

Thanks again!

hey, just a little heads up.. im not saying this is you {obviously i dont know as i havent seen it, i odnt know youetc etc} but!! like 2 weeks ago, my aunt got a spider bite, and after 3 days, it turned black and necrotic. turned out there was an infection on top of the bite. its called CA-MRSA {ca meaning community assissted} the scary thing--is MRSA is immune to many antibiotics. im really glad your going to an MD to get it checked out.

my aunt said that her surgeon {that did the surgery to cut the infection out of the back of her leg} has had numerous cases of this -- all with seemingly no similarities. quite scary! Like i mentioned before, this happened to her 2 weeks ago. shes STILL having problems with her leg, and has to take quite a few different medications because of this.

If it gets worse tonight or you see a red line heading toward or along a vein, I would suggest you get immediately medical attention. A friend of mine in college was in intensive care for 3 days from a spider bite she ignored for a while.

Applying tea tree oil helps fight both infection and it soothes any itching and irritation as well. Good luck and hope it clears up soon.

Jesus! You have a lump on your thigh the size of a BASEBALL and aren't in the ER?? What the fuck is wrong with you???

I was also going to suggest tea tree oil or crushed up asprin and water, but swelling that size is kinda scary. Hope you get good news after you see the Doc.

I agree, I've seen a guy who left it, almost lost his leg. it eats the skin away, real nasty stuff. You need to get it looked at, it will take like a week to go away.

Geez, I was gonna say that I'd kiss it and it would feel better, but maybe going to the doctor is a better idea.

Hmmm, I'm sure kisses couldn't hurt!

But I do now have an appointment for 10:15 this morning.

Will keep you posted.

Ok, doc says probably an infection introduced by the spider and probably MRSA, so I'm on two antibiotics for ten days and warm compresses to try to 'bring it to a head' so she can get a culture. Sexy, huh?

I'm glad you got it looked at and have a good treatment plan, Vanelane! Hopefully the antibiotics will take care of any infection. :rose:

I like pus!!!

That being said, I'm very sorry for the pain you are feeling.

I'm SO glad you got it checked out, it could have turned into something VERY bad. Keep me updated. As a TA for a Microbiology lab, it'd be cool to know!

MRSA is a staph infection.. please go to a doctor who knows what he/she's doing.. the one you saw is an idiot. You can't get a culture once antibiotics have be introduced into your system. and a staph infection can get real bad real fast..like in hours and that means a hospital stay.. it can turn into blood poisoning very quickly and can be hard to stop once it gets in you blod.. that's what the red streaks usually are.. my dad went trough this and we almost lost him to it.. my mom almost lost her foot due to a spider bite on her heal which wasn't attended to quickly enough and got a staph infected in it.. it still hadn't healed two years later when she passed away..

Is it a black widow bite? Those sound like fun. Their venom works by ordering every muscle in your body to cramp. If you've had cramp in your leg or something, try to imagine EVERY muscle in your body cramping all at once, for about a day!
