This video pissed me off

That marine trolled everbody in the world. The puppy was dead, the 'yips' were added in later, etc...

It's somewhat tasteless (or worse, too a lot of people), but I doubt it's the worst thing he's done since he's been there.

yeah..

well for one, just because he's a soldier, trained to kill people, blah blah blah, does not mean he gets a blanket excuse to no longer be human.

I've known many soldiers in his situation, if not more extreme, but they wouldnt use animal cruelty as an outlet.

Also, animal cruelty is one of the symptoms of being a psychopath and/or a sociopath. Animal cruelty, firestarting, and bedwetting. I have no way of knowing about the other two, but seeing that video does not make me secure in the knowledge that he's been trained to kill and has been given a weapon.

I'm not defending this guy.

I’m saying the fact that this guy is trained to kill and destroy is a far greater evil then him being a psychopath.

When it comes to the evils of a standing military force vs the mentally ill, there is no contest.

I just have to ask....I know I will be sorry, but have to ask....

Do you really believe what posted above?

Yes, I would definitely say an organization existing only to kill and destroy is worse then a guy torturing small animals.

The responses to this thread strike me as somebody getting upset about a dog who happened to be caught in a massive pileup, as apposed to the human victims of the pileup.

The majority of people in the military are able to compartmentalize enough to do the job. We train them.

Killing another person requires a level of dehumanization. We assign an appropriate "compartment" for that dehumanization and expect and hope that it doesn't blur. Normally it does not in these extreme ways. I don't think anyone can do that and remain the same as one who has not, and this is, to me, the supreme sacrifice of the soldier - not the willingness to die, but the willingness to be transformed into someone who may kill.

But there are always people falling far out of the mainstream.

So you get things like this.

People like this graduate to other things. Civilian children. Civilian men and women. Their own wives and partners when they get home.

Combat pressure doesn't excuse any of it. Like being an SM top, being a soldier is sometimes OK cover for being a psychopath but doesn't make it all right.

Let's assume it's not faked. It's just one dog. But it's what that dog *means* that makes this so fucking scary.

Yes, one of the many reasons why I think being a soldier should not be considered a profession.

I suppose peoples reaction on this was more along the lines of, that guy is going to come home a psycho. Mine was, there are people over their being taught and told how to exhibit psychotic behavior.

Some of you are absolutely right as well. There are plenty of 18 year olds who do have that compassion, etc. to "do the right thing." There are plenty of good soldiers there, I know I see them everyday as Im in spitting distance of both Miramar and Camp Pendleton here.

I certainly wasn't trying to dismiss them. Nor was I trying to start a political conflagration.

Sorry all.

Michael Vick's hobby was killing dogs. I don't see anyone painting all football players with that broad stroke. One out of 500 here in this little county are registered sex offenders.

The military is no better or worse than the society they are drawn from. There is probably more than one doctor in the country sticking his finger up some lady's asshole for kicks. Or pocketing drugs for later. Pick any group and you find bad people. The clergy is a pretty fine example.
