thoughts on man hitting a woman

I don't think a man should ever hit a woman and vice versa, I agree with whats been said above, but the thing I've always wondered is why some women put up with it for so long?....My cousin was with a guy for over 2 yrs and from what we are told now shortly after he moved in, he started to beat her, that was a whole year of it. It was only when her brother seen the marks, and we put him into hospital that she saw sense.

i dont know some women are just afraid of what might happen to them if they try to do something to stop the man fear blinds out sense.. i know....with an ex bf of mine he would hit me sometimes and i didnt know what to do i didnt really open my eyes to it till my present bf made me see that i needed to just get out of it ....so like i said its the fear of something worse happening that prevents a woman from saying hell no this aint happenin

there is never a "right " time for a man to hit a woman.No one ever deserves to be hit. especially in a relationship that is supposed to be built on trusting one another.

I don't know why anyone would want to hit a woman. They are beautiful to look at and touch. It is far better to make love to a woman than to hit them. I think that they would enjoy the love making alot more than hitting too.

If a man hits a woman ANY woman then he better not ever come around again-- i was also rasied in an abusive home and swore i would never ever be in that situation -- Now i am raising a daughter and trying to show her that ANY man touches her that they are dead meant not just by the cops either-- Wait till this BITCH gets to you

i want this thread to be more then just opinions.....i was this to be a place where people can discuss there feeling and things that have happened to them...perhaps we could have this be a place that people can give and take advice to help others that have no one else to talk to about these sorts of things

I agree with most of the people on here. It's not alright for a man to hit a woman, or vice versa. Domestic violence, no matter what form it takes, leaves deep scars.

The thing I've always found odd is that a lot of movies portray a woman slapping a man in the face. This happens a lot in real life as well. I think that is just as wrong as a man hitting a woman. But, not too many people see it as the same thing (at least not the ones I have met). Seems kind of like a double standard to me.

any one person has the right to defend themselves ..whether it be a woman defending herself or a man defending himself i agree with an earlier post if a woman has the balls so to speak to swing at a man then she should not expect to not get hit back

ya know at the time she told me he hit her i thought about doing something to that effect however i know it would be pointless seeing as how he must not have any balls if he has to go around hitting woman

Baseball bats might be nice -- but i prefer just nailing their asses back but then again i have the size and the training to hurt them so i advise anywoman that is in that situation to walk with your life and not wait to see if he will kill you cause one day he will

There is a certain asymmetry here, but for reasons IMO.

One reason is that men usually much stronger. So if a woman is trying to beat a man, he could usually restrain her. OTOH, when a man is beating a woman, it is a very real threat to her health and well-being.

The other (and more important!) reason is that in the general scheme of things women are needed to be better protected than me. Males are replaceable because they can have unlimited number of children, while females are not, because they could only have a very limited number of babies in their lifetime. "Sperm is cheap, but egg is dear".

If a male is killed or rendered disabled, there will be others who fill father babies in his place, while if a female is killed or becomes infertile, her possible offspring-to-be would not be replaced, and lost for her tribe. The tribes that did not protect their females became less numerous and were defeated by the ones that did.

That is why all societies use men for wars, dangerous jobs, and all kind of experimental pursuits.

Note that we have laws protecting HUMANS and laws protecting just WOMEN, no laws protecting just MEN.

Sure, I understand the biological reasons for it. I also understand that, although it's the 21st century, biology, whether consciously or unconsciously, still plays a part in people's behavior. Regardless, it doesn't excuse the double standard IMO.

This is in another vein, but I have a good male friend who used to play in a rock band. One night, as was usual after a concert, there was a party at the place where he lived. After drinking some, he went up to his room, to get some sleep. Next morning he gets up, and his buddies are all congratulating him. Turns out two women had come into his room and had at it. He didn't know them, and only remembered bits and pieces. He never said anything about it; but he did feel violated/raped and he could have caught any number of the STD's flying around. If this had happened to a woman ... well, it would be a different story.

Certainly, there are reasons for this double standard, they just don't make it any less wrong or excusable.

that is a very interesting point of view and though i do not strongly agree with some of it, the point about men being able to restrain the woman vs woman being able to restrain a man i know from experience of my own that woman are not always capable of protecting themselves again men specially if the man is bigger. though i dont bellieve it is right for a woman to just lash out at a man it would be better for the man to restrain her rather then start beating her. i know that i am rambling and that i have said alot of this stuff in previous posts but i think it is important for everyone to see that hewolf has a couple of very good points

If the guy is defending himself, that is one thing (I used to work for the PD and saw that MANY times) But just hitting out of anger is wrong under any circumstances.
