A fog had moved in from the harbor, moving through the streets of Boston in a steady march of shadows and moisture. The dirty back allies and trash strewn streets were hard enough to navigate at the best of times, but in the fog, Doctor Andrew Tucker found them almost impossible. He moved past men huddled under a dim gaslight, passing a bottle between them, past an aging prostitute laying against a wall and scratching at her half exposed breasts, and past mounds of refuse abandoned and sometimes burned.

He held a handerchief over his mouth with his delicate fingers as he navigated the foggy maze of degredation and disease. The collar of his dark top coat was pulled up around his thin pale face and a bowler hat was pressed down on his wazy blond hair. He clutched a leather satchel in his other hand, worn from three generations of use in the medical field.

It was a hot, bothersome July morning and he cursed himself for coming down here, but his his practice had taken off ever so slowly and he had to take what custome he could. the evening before, a letter hand been hand delivered to him, promising an astonishing fee of ten dollars for a simple home visit and exam. Though the address had been in a horrible part of town, the silver dollar which fell from the envelope had been real enough and had purchased a much needed dinner after a slow week with little monetary restitution.
